I know there has been a lot of discussion about kitchen redo's lately. We are also in the planning stages of our kitchen. I found some quartz that I like but want to know what the peas think that have this in their kitchens. Thanks! ~Lisa

I don't have quartz in my kitchen, but I do have it in my bathroom (double sink). Ours is Hanstone brand.
I think it is a great material and I would highly recommend it. No maintenance whatsoever and it always looks good.
I have granite in my kitchen and would have loved to go with quartz, but we found it to be significantly more expensive. At our fabricator, we were able to pay for granite by how much we needed. We needed an entire slab and part of another. We didn't have to pay for 2 slabs. For our bathroom, we didn't need an entire slab of quartz, but we would have had to pay for the entire slab, even the portion we didn't use. This made it prohibitively expensive. However, some people choose to do this, because we found the perfect piece of quartz for our bathroom counter in the 'remnant yard'. This made it much more cost effective.
Hopefully pricing is different where you are looking! |

Quartz is awesome. I love the look, the durability, and the zero maintenance.
I am currently coveting a kitchen refresh with white quartz counters and painted cabinets.

Love it and will never put anything else in ever again. No maintenance, always looks great, can withstand dropped dishes/hot pots/etc. We chose quartz over granite because of its more uniform appearance; I've never had granite but would expect they behave similarly. |

We put in Zodiaq brand quartz two years ago when we reno'd our whole house. We have a light-colored flecked tan in the master bath, a BRIGHT blue in the boys' bath (it's been discontinued, but we love it!), black flecked kitchen counters and a dark red and black flecked kitchen island. We're really happy with them. I do notice that if I use a cleaning product on the black, I have to really wipe it off thoroughly or I can see a residue in certain light, but I think granite would be the same.
I don't set pots fresh off the stove or oven on it, even though they say you can. I set down a potholder first.

Dave Barry on Christmas...
"In the old days, it was not called the Holiday Season; the Christians called it 'Christmas' and went to church; the Jews called it 'Hanukka' and went to synagogue; the atheists went to parties and drank. People passing each other on the street would say 'Merry Christmas!' or 'Happy Hanukka!' or (to the atheists) 'Look out for the wall!'"

The quartz that I saw was at Lowe's. There wasn't anyone around to ask about it. The sign said it was $86.00 a square foot. I would hope they would only charge for what you needed, not like what the other poster said happened to them.
I usually can make quick decisions about what I want but for some reason I am in a quandry over this project! I just want it to be fantastic because I may never get another chance to redo our kitchen!
I am glad to hear that it tough and doesnt require a lot of maintenance.

We put in Quartz when we did our kitchen remodel and chose it because I have never liked the busy-ness of Granite and think a lot of granite will look dated. Where we live, the granite and quartz were about the same price, so it had nothing to do with price. A couple things though, and I should probably call our installer about this. The edges all around the sink are rough just from washing dishes and banging everything up against the counter. I also was carrying the crockpot over the the sink the other day and hit the edge of the counter and put a nice little nick in it. I am assuming they can fill that in. Also, when we did our remodel, we put in huge windows in our kitchen because we live on a golf course and wanted to have great views so we have lots of light coming in. So when you go to wipe the counters down you see all the streak marks if not totally dry. I actually went to Lowes and bought car towels that absorb all the water off the counter so that I would not have that problem. So those are the only towels I use now on the counters. Other than that, no problems, we really like them.

Same here. I wanted quartz when we did our kitchen remodel but the quote came in higher than that for granite, so we went with the granite (which I love and have no regrets about). |

I put in a new bank of cabinets on one wall and went with oatmeal colored quartz. Love it. It's from lowes too. Our lowes sold the materials but worked with a fabricator who came out to measure and then again a week or so later to install.
I'm nothing but pleased with it. |

I've noticed this with both my granite and my quartz counters. I find that dry microfiber cloths work great for going over the counters after I wipe them. I especially love the microfiber cloths from Norwex. They work great on stainless steel, too--dry, w/o any cleaner or water. |

I put quartz in this past summer and I love it. No maintenance. I read to use windex on it so thats all I use and it looks great. haven't noticed any streaks. We got it thru a flooring company. They came out and measured for it and we paid for the sq foot, not per slab. They also had a special for a free under mount sink. the only thing that bugs me is that it is speckled and no one but me (apparently) can see the bread crumbs that are there after making a sandwich right on the counter?? lol I do love the color just need others to clean up after themselves, probably a losing battle
the thing that keep me from getting granite is you never know if your piece will have a big vein going thru it. Not my thing
