I just got in from a meeting with some school council peeps. As I was walking up my front steps, I heard a loud crash. It sounded just like a front end loader dropping it's bucket.
I turned around to see that my neighbour across the street had backed out of their garage...without opening their garage door!
And then they tried to pull back in to the garage, but the door appears to be stuck to their bumper, because it curled back around and in with the car.
I barely made it in the house before I started laughing. It's funny, but it isn't. I'm such a bad neighbour! |

I would be a bad neighbor with you, laughing. Provided, of course, that they were not injured, elderly, disoriented, confused. yada yada yada

They are a younger couple, just had a baby I think.
I hope there isn't too much damage to the car itself!
And then I had another thought that set me off again - the garage door seems to have been bent up in half (looks like only half the door is there) - I sure hope they are able to open it so they can get the car out of the garage! |

We had a house a few miles away blow up a few years ago. The way the sound carried DH heard it and asked DS, go check your mom because I think she drove though the garage door.
I wasn't even in town, I was already across the river in Missouri.
I would have chuckled at your neighbor too. Hope she's physically okay - probable has a big bruse in her pride though |

Giggle. Don't feel too bad about it. I laughed just reading that. I also laugh every single time that insurance commercial comes on and that guy thinks he's in reverse but instead drives straight ahead into his garage. My mom managed to crash into our garage door about 8 years ago. Fortunately for us, she was able to stop before popping through the door! |

I can't believe you are laughing at another person's misfortune. Why they could have been killed. I had a great-great-aunt who was killed when she backed her horse into the barn door. It killed her I tell you. How can you be so cold and callus? What is wrong with you. And what about the baby?
Just kidding, glad you could get inside lest they see you giggling. |

Those darn barn door openers just don't work fast enough. |

This might of been us...or at least my DH. He closed, or at least tried to close, the garage door with my Jeep under it. Good thing my Jeep is "Trail Tested." DH was able to repair the garage door.
Maybe the passenger opened the door after the driver went out and then the driver hit the button from inside the car and the door went down. I know we've done that. Thankfully, I always look for walkers behind me. |

My mom admitted that she's backed into their garage door twice recently. They have a Prius so she's not speeding out of the door and kinda just rolls into it.
I'm just sitting there on the phone trying not to laugh because it just seems like the craziest thing in the world to do. I only have a one car garage that is tiny so I have to look in all mirrors to make sure I'm ok to back out. I can only hope I don't do the same as my mother. |

The neighborhood where I owned my first home had detached garages. One day, the neighbor lady who was a pretty spry, adventurous retiree came ringing our doorbell and knocking in a panic. Miss Ophelia had gotten some new high heels to have lunch with her new boyfriend. She hadn't worn heels that high in years. Apparently, they confused her driving feet, causing her to drive right on through her back garage wall! That was her story and she was sticking to it. Darn heels! Went over and there was a drop off on the backside of her property, so the wall was knocked down and her car was hung up teetering a bit on the cement pad. I was a bad neighbor. I laughed (though not in front of her) and it still makes me smile today. Miss Ophelia was hot and bothered by her new man thing, the heels weren't a factor | |

I completely forgot that I almost hit mine. I opened the door and got in the van. Started to back up and the door started closing. So I pulled forward and the door opened back up. Copy and paste a couple more times. Finally I got out of the van to see what the heck was making the door act all wonky. It was then I realized I had shut the emergency cord in the van's sliding door. OMG that was so weird but I was thrilled I didn't destroy the door or need a new opener. We did however shorten the cable. |

I tried to back the van out of the garage when the door was closed. I didn't destroy the door but the previously malfunctioning door opener died completely after I hit the door. It would start to open then stop and close. I was so tired (had a newborn) and I don't know if I didn't push the button to open the door or if I pushed it and it malfunctioned (partially opened then closed again). Regardless, I hit the door and it bulged outward but didn't break. We limped along with it like that for awhile until DH replaced the entire door. |

Reminds me of the time I pulled into our garage with the Thule luggage carrier on top of the car.
OMG, the noise. That sickening, crunching sound. |

I'd have laughed, too.
I did something similar. Got into the car, put it in reverse and the car binged at me to let me know the rear passenger door was open. I get out (leaving the driver door open), go around the back of the car and shut the door. As I'm going back around the back of the car on my way to the drivers side, I realize that the car is moving. I didn't put the car in park when I got out to close the door.
So, my car backed out of the garage, all by itself. With the drivers side door open. When that door hit the side of the house, it bent all the way back (like, touching the front fender back). The sound was horrible! I can still see my car backing out and the door bending back in slow motion in my mind's eye.
It took about an hour for me to see the humor in the situtation. Now, every time I think about it, I giggle!
Things like that are a part of life. Living life is much more enjoyable if you can take moments like this in stride and laugh about them! |
