We have a soccer tournament in Phoenix coming up. I am trying to book a hotel, and it's not been pleasant. How far is Scotsdale from Phoenix? How big is Phoenix? how are the roads in/out of that area? Any additional information you can give? Thank so much!

How far Scottsdale is from Phoenix depends on where you are going in each city. Technically, the cities touch each other, but the West side of Phoenix is pretty far from Scottsdale. Can you tell us where the tournament is, so we can help you narrow down possible hotel locations?

where is your tournament? that will help. Phoenix is a very very large city. Scottsdale is also quite large. Everything is freeway friendly.

the fields are at Reach 11 Complex, 2425 E Deer Valley Rd, Phoenix.
there is something under that that says Red Mountain, 905 N. Sunvalley Blvd Mesa so i don't know if that is another set of fields or what that is.

Those are very far apart. I live really close to reach 11. There are not a lot of hotels near there. What is your price range?

those are both soccer complexes nowhere near each other. They are about 40 min apart. All freeway driving.

Near Reach 11 the closest is Desert Ridge Marriott but that will be several hundred a night.

Those are very far apart - like 45 minutes apart. Do you know if you'll really be at both places? If so, that is something to consider with hotel location.

when you say those are very far apart, are you talking about the deer valley road vs. sun valley blvd? i think ours will be the deer valley road location.

i would like to spend no more than $125 a night. i will if i have to, but not by much. we aren't going to be in the hotel much, but at the same time, i don't want a dive. i have found many hotels on sites like hotels.com but just am not clear how far they are from those fields.

yes, deer valley which is reach 11 is off the 101 freeway between the 51 freeway and 1-17. The other complex is in Mesa. If you are not going to the mesa one then there are many hotels on the I-17 and the 101 area that are nice.

I don't live in Phoenix, but just chimed in to say that Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, and the surrounding areas were very easy for me to navigate while driving. The freeway system is easy and I "got" the street system down pretty fast.

And no matter where I was and where I wanted to go it always took about 45 minutes. LOL!

Good Luck with the tournament.

I don't live there but I do visit my mom there a couple of times a year.
Phoenix is a big area.
What type of hotel are you looking for?
The freeways are pretty good except during rush hours. City streets are city streets. Most of Phoenix is laid out on a grid.
We stay at the

Where is the tournament?
Squaw Peak Hilton We love the lazy river and the water park. My guess, about 20 minutes to most of Scottsdale.

Here is where I would stay:

Hampton Inn & Suites Phoenix/Scottsdale
16620 North Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, Arizona, 85254, USA TEL: 1-877-906-4977

Lots of food and shopping near by. A few miles north of a goofy golf place too.

When will you be coming that will determine what to do. Now until March is super nice with a lot happening. Spring Training games start in February and you would be close to some stadiums.

What age kids?

this is a good time of year. We have the Phoenox Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Papago Park for a little hiking. Lots of Museums, The Phoenix Children's Museum is really good, we have a Science Center, not sure when you are coming but in March the have the Cactus League baseball, Several national teams practice here against each other. here's a link to some ideas also check the papers for events when you get here. Most things are within a 30 to 40 min drive.

We have played tournaments with these being the sites for games. Most of the time they will settle age levels in a general area. Our problem was having multiple players in different age brackets. It would be ideal to find out what field your team will play most of their games at and plan accordingly.

I would strongly suggest staying closest to the field you will play at the most. Also check for any construction in the area that can add mileage and time to your trips.

Reach 11 is a great facility and in a good location. There are several reasonable hotels around, good food and shopping. We have had good luck with priceline in getting hotels for tournaments this time of year.

Another tip is to bring warm clothes for early morning games. You might think it won't be cold but they can be very chilly. Layer so you can stay comfortable throughout the day. Have fun Phoenix this time of the year is great.

It's actually right off the 51 and not really near I-17. Especially if there is the chance you will be also headed to the Mesa complex, you'll want to stay east of the 51 and not any further west. I would not stay anywhere off I-17.

I'm with those who suggest the Hampton Inn off Shea and Scottsdale. You can also google maps the Scottsdale Municipal Airport and do a search for hotels from there, as there is a cluster right around there.

Taliesin West is in North Scottsdale and their tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's home is pretty cool.

Stop at MacAlpine's Soda Fountain on 2303 N 7th St Phoenix, AZ 85006 for an awesome lunch and soda. Plus it is flanked by little antique stores so it is fun to eat and hunt around a bit.

I also love Tempe Town lake with the SUPs, kayaks, and just the energy in downtown Tempe.

You've got lots of fun suggestions. It is a great time to visit Phoenix.

This I am closer to your field in Mesa. They are very far apart! How soon are your tournaments? The weathers been really hairy wet and rainy and snowy up north (if you're driving). But it's supposed to clear out tomorrow or Wed. There is the Phoenix Open (the big golf tournament) this upcoming weekend. That could make a mess of traffic.

I'm a little familiar with the Desert Ridge area. I know there is a really nice Marriott resort closer to the Mayo clinic and Desert Ridge shopping area and they have everything as far as shopping etc.

You could do something in between like Tempe.

thanks for all the tips ladies. i appreciate it.
i don't anticipate much free time. there will probably be 2 games on saturday and 2 games on sunday as well as a 6-ish hour drive back if we make it to that 2nd game on sunday. i'm sure i can find something to occupy an hour or 2 if I get that much between games.

We had a lacrosse tournament at Reach 11. It's a lovely facility. We stayed at a Courtyard Marriott in Happy Valley. I don't believe we paid more than $120 for the room. Breakfast was included as we booked through the tournament organizer.

It was about a 20 minute drive from the field.

My ILs lived at the Pointe Hilton, and that was a bit too far to drive with early game times. That was about 40 minutes from the fields.

Sort of off topic, but I flew into Phoenix for the first time a couple of months ago, and that airport has the friendliest people working there! Even TSA!
