maybe I still want to order one. It seems lately when DH and I go out to eat, the waitperson does not ask if we want dessert. At some point they bring us the check and don't ask if we are done, do we want anything else. If I want something, I will go ahead and order it. But sometimes I think, "Ok, your loss."
I have had this happen at Cheddar's, Friday's and today at Cracker Barrel. (I love their Coca Cola Chocolate Cake)
Have the rules changed? Should I place that order when I order my meal?

Ok, your loss.
Well it really is their loss, since offering you dessert would increase their tip. I can't think of any way to explain it. |

Maybe because it is January and so many are eating healthy that they are tired of asking and being told no.
The cake you mentioned sounds great and know I want a bite!

Do you ever speak to management?
If I were a manager of a restaurant I would want to know my wait staff was shirking |

The only time dessert doesn't get offered in my experience, is if you already camped at the table to eat your meal.

No camping at the table. Although, we have done that and continue to order drinks and dessert.
And increase tip. |

I've noticed that lately too. It surprises me. Dh says his servers always ask about dessert. |

It's actually your loss if you miss out on dessert. Desserts are usually cheap so it's not increasing their tip by much. Maybe many people don't order dessert. I hate it when they ask what I want to drink the minute I sit down, I need time to look at the drink menu to select my cocktail/wine. |

In higher-end restaurants servers ask about desert. I don't really consider any of the restaurants you listed as more than sit down fast food places. I know that sounds a bit "uppity" but based on past experiences of those exact restaurants I find better service at non-chain places, including being offered desert.
