I am so loving all the PL products out there and seeing blogs and layouts out there online just makes me want to do it more. However, I do not have kids and there is probably no way I could keep up with a weekly project like that.
Do any of you still use the PL pocket page protectors and supplies but not follow the week by week style? Maybe I would get more done and also make it easier on myself if I just did my scrapbooking in a PL kind of way.
Thoughts? Advice?

I really wanted to try PL this year. I bought an album and some page protectors. I didn't buy the kits. I tried to do the first week, but failed. I've decided to tackle my vacations photos PL style. I always take so many and want to scrap most of them. This way I can get a lot of pic scraped. |

That's a good idea! I feel that I spend to much time on layouts so this maybe better for me. Plus I can still do layouts and add those to the album too. But I am like you there is no way I would keep up with an actual PL project.

I plan on taking all the pics I have in boxes and putting them all in albums PL style. There is no way I will be able to scrap them all. From there I can just pick the ones that are more special and do a LO. |

Yep, this is exactly what I do Mary.. hehe, or rather don't do. I combine divided page protectors and regular layouts in an album that has four different categories based on Stacy Julian's system.

Love your blog post! I love your little to no designing look at it. I have so many great ideas flowing through my head but never can get them on paper and I feel like I waste time worrying about that rather then just sticking the photos and maybe adding some writing and a few embellishments and go with it!

I am doing it on a monthly basis. I am thinking it will use up those photos that really aren't doing a whole layout for, but I will still do holidays special events and birthdays as traditional layouts. Not done one yet, and didnt take a whole lot of photos in January so far

I have only just started but am just taking photos as I usually do and when I have enough photos to do a spread I will. Sometimes I'll do a double page of one weekend if there is lots of photos but other months it may only be a page a month. |

No kids here, this is my first year and I decided one page weekly (not two as usual). That took the pressure off me because I only need two/three photos per week, adding journaling and cards. Works for me!

there really is no rule with PL. I started this year and so far i have done one page for week 1&2, then one page for just week 3, and i'll probably do one page only for week 4&5 combined. Go with the flow and have fun! |

Like chrispeas, I'm doing my vacation photos PL style and then throwing in a few 12x12 for the pictures or stories I really want to scrap more traditionally.

I too, have no children. But I am loving PL. I make 2 page spread with BH Design A.
I take a lot of pic's if I have more than 7 pic I put them in a divided 6x12. When I come across pic's that I and have a story I (will) scrap them and put them in my PL album.
Do what you think will work for you |

I am married, no kids, and work full-time. I am on year 4 of PL. The first two years, I did a picture-a-day. The PL albums were absolute favorites, but I was getting a little burned out. The last two years, I have switched over to a monthly format. At the end of each month, I typically do one layout, including inserts if I have extra pictures to include. However, I love that PL is flexible enough to make it whatever I want. If we have a special event/vacation/etc, I just add in another layout after my monthly layout. For example, we had a busy month in October, so I have several PL layouts:
- Oct 2012 (for random pics/stories from the month)
- close friend's wedding
- trip to visit family
- baby shower I hosted for best friend
I am finding that this method really allows me to highlight the bigger events during the month, instead of just choosing a few pictures. This style works for me, because it is how I tend to take pictures. I stick with BH Design A page protectors as the "base" of my album. Then, I add in other sizes as inserts, whenever needed.

I like how PL is different for everybody and is able to work for me. Right now I am going back and doing 2011 and 2012. Mostly a month at a time with some special events that will be a couple of pages. 2011 was a bad year, so my only pictures might be of our visits to Disney World. But at the beginning I did a page with the title (2011) and journaling about all that happened that year. Then a few pictures from the highlights of that year including a picture of my Mom who passed away in 2011.Going forward in 2013 I will just decide as I take my pictures. Might be a week, a month or just an event. No matter what I do it is easy to put the pictures in add some journaling, a title and a few embellishments. I can always go back and do more. |

I love to scrapbook, but at the rate I'm going I will have tons of albums, or more truthfully a lot of photos stuck in photo boxes. So, I love the look of PL and have thought that this is probably the way I will go:
I plan on taking all the pics I have in boxes and putting them all in albums PL style. There is no way I will be able to scrap them all. From there I can just pick the ones that are more special and do a LO.
That way I can have my backlog of pix "scrapped"!
I have a backlog, so what am I doing still here? I love to "pea"! |
I LOVE to talk about scrapbooking!!

I did it in 2009 and 2011 so I was going to try it again this year but this time I am going to do monthly layouts instead. Good luck with yours! I'm sure you will find a good way to do it! You've received some great suggestions here! |

I don't use the journaling cards and divided page protectors to journal by day or by week.
I use the concept to do my scrapbooking. I think of it as "embellished photo albums".
I intersperse 12x12 layouts as the mood to scrap traditionally moves me.

I'm using a PL concept to simply scrap our photos for this year & last.
I'm not doing a Picture of the Day,. I'm not doing weekly layouts.
I'm just using this style to "scrap" all of our pics. I am trying to keep photos in a semi-chronological order.
So, all of January's photos will come first (Except for in the instance of project before 7 afters or something like that), but within that first group of pages I may mix up the photos. If my toddler is playing with Lego bricks in photos from week 1 & week 4 of january, I will put them together and simply date the photos.
Or I may have a 2 page layout that's only of photos from 1 day.

I did weekly last year and it was just too time consuming for me. I actualyl kept up on it and love it, but know that I miss traditional layouts and want to get back to a mix of both.
This year I decided to do PL more like a month in review. I just plan to use my favorite photos from the whole month and then maybe journal special events or milestones for my son. I've also thought about an insert sepcific for photos of my son since he takes up most of my PL anyway! |

I keep a journal of "highlights" during each week. I go through the journal at the end of the month and select the most important things that happened for that month, then I do a month-in-review double-page spread. Like you, I don't have kids and I have found this method works well for me.

I've been thinking about switching to a monthly version. Some weeks I had plenty to fill, but there were others in which I hadn't even take pictures. I love to see examples of others who are trying this approach.
Thanks for the inspiration, jenniferswilson. I recently started following your blog and really like it! |

I'm using project life to scrapbook, but not as an every day thing. I'm using it get through years of scrapbooking and mixing in 12x12 layouts throughout. I love this way of scrapbooking. It fits my style more than JUST 12x12's. |
