What grade are the kids expected to memorize the multiplication tables all the way to 10? My son was assigned this now, half way through second grade. I thought it wouldn't be until later. (Or maybe it was just wishful thinking ) |

I changed schools in October of 1968; 3rd grade. My new school already knew their multiplication tables. They had started them in 2nd grade. |

Sarah Beth is working on them now -- 3rd grade.

We have often asserted and we affirm it yet again that no fact in history is better attested than the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It must not be denied by any who are willing to pay the slightest respect to the testimony of their fellow men. That Jesus, who died upon the cross, and was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, did literally rise again from the dead. (excerpted from Dance Your Shoes Off, Second Baptist Church)

Sounds about right. I want to say my kids started with the 0's, 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's at the end of 2nd grade, (the "easy ones" and then progressed with the rest in 3rd grade.

3rd grade for me and for my son, but he probably had to know 2s, 5s, and 10s before that. They were doing skip counting in Kindergarten as prep. |

I think 2nd grade sounds right. That's when my three kids learned (2nd and 3rd). They are now in 4th, 8th and 10th grade.
My husband learned his in 1st grade and I learned in 2nd. But that was a long time ago! It may be later now?

My DD started them in late 2nd grade, however they weren't expected to have them fully memorized until a few months into 3rd.
She is in January of her 3rd grade and she has moved onto Division. However, her school lets the kids work at their own level. Once they pass the 3 minute 100 problem test they move up to the next type of math. There are still people in her class on addition and some have passed division. |

That sounds about right. I'm pretty sure it was about this time that DD started them in second grade. The worked on them in 3rd grade, too. |

My first grader is doing a lot of skip counting 2's, 5's, and by 10's now, and started it last year in K. I think they start more in 2nd and know them all by 3rd.

When I was in 2nd grade I went to a private school and that is when I learned them. I went back into public school my 3rd grade year and they were just beginning to learn them.
My kids both started near the end of 2nd grade and then finished in 3rd grade. |

Half way through second grade doesn't seem unreasonable. I remember for my dds and granddaughter it was third grade.

DD had them memorized in second grade, most of the class was just starting them then.
DS started in second grade and I don't think he really had them memorized until 8th grade when he was taking algebra. It didn't bother him a bit (other than my total frustration) since he gets A's in his high school math classes.

DD is in 2nd grade. Just on our own I taught her the 0, 1, 2, 5 and 10s tables. I expect she will do the rest in 3rd grade. |
OK. Newbie. This is how it works. If your post consists of 80% sanity, 10% stupidity and 10% all kinds of crazy, we immediately focus on the 20% b/c it discredits the 80%.

Depends on the state and what the standards say, In my state they start select multiples in 2nd grade and should know all of them in third grade. If they can understand that multiplication is repeated addition, then they are ready.

Third Grade, this year, needs to know 12x12. Last year, they started with the 0, 1, 2, 5, and 10.
In First Grade my other child is working more and more on skip counting 2, 3, 5 and 10. Last night her homework was to solve 8 groups of 2, 7 groups of 3 etc. |
