That is $3.33 per piece, sounds very reasonable for dishes. |

The thing is, I'm not sure I would use them much. I just want them! Silly, I know!

My only concern is I believe that is a discontinued design? Finding replacement pieces can get difficult and pricey. Maybe you are not as clumsy as I am, though!! |

That sounds like a very good price to me. We DO use my china.
In fact, when we got married, we knew we'd be working overseas as ex-pats so we intentionally didn't get wedding china. However, years later, we are permanently living back in the USA, and dh offered to buy me a set of china.
I am very intentionally about making "event" out of simple things for the sole purpose of making memories for our kids. For example, we always celebrated out first day back to school in the fall by having a fancy breakfast together. Out came the china and it instantly creates "special event".
We've even put candles on the table for supper, set out the china and had mac and cheese. My kids loved it!
Our girls are all now in college and THEY are the ones that now ask if we can use our china - so I think the "will I use it" is all in how YOU want to approach it.

There are so many pieces that I don't think I would have that problem. Opinions on these dishes, please!

A 5 piece place setting is selling for $52 on replacements.com.
I would check each piece carefully and also for each piece, I would "ping" it with my finger to see if the dish has a slight ringing sound to it or has a dull sound. If the sound is dull, then there is a hairline crack somewhere.
It's a pretty dish, I'm not a fan of floral design china, but that is a fairly simple design so I think it is classic enough to not go out of style. I have a big set of Lenox Eternal which is pretty plain.
I really don't use my china except maybe once every 2 years. Unfortunately, my two stepdaughters are kind of careless with plates and they have broken even Fiestaware and Pfaltzgraf plates before.
I used my china more back in the day when a lot of friends were getting married or having babies. I used it at bridal or wedding shower teas.

We use our wedding china quite a bit. I remember using my mom's when we were growing up, and have a lot of great memories about it. I want my boys to grow up with the same kind of memories. As a matter of fact, I'm using it for a baby shower I'm hosting this weekend. It may get broken or chipped, but I'd much rather use it than have it sit in storage.

As another poster said, I'd be leery of purchasing something that is discontinued. It's still cheaper than the china SO wants. We found it when we were in Santa Fe and each place setting was something like $450!!!! I told him that if we bought that, we'd make everyone only eat sandwiches off it. No forks and knives on the china!

I live about 1.5 hours from a Lenox distribution warehouse. They had an incredible sale this summer. Dinner plates were $5, serving bowls were $20, etc. But those prices are even better than that.
I'd be concerned about being able to get serving pieces like bowls, platters, gravy boat, cream and sugar, etc at reasonable prices. They are outrageous to begin with and become even more so when discontinued.
We use china a lot. I have 4 full sets. Only you can decide if this is right for you. |

That is extremely inexpensive for china.
We have multiple sets of china and we use them all. I love china and don't only use it for special occasions.

I love our china (India by Westwood and Casual Elegance by Lenox). We use ours a lot! Our dishwasher's out and I'm handwashing anyway. We might as well enjoy the good stuff! I also get a kick out of eating a casual dinner on fine china.
Our accountant is a foodie and he told us he and his wife buy two plates of any pattern they like. They use them for dinners for just the two of them. He told us they rarely use all the extra pieces and the two plate rule gave them tons more options. I liked that tip because it was so hard for me to pick a pattern!
They also have a full set of their wedding china and his mother's silver pattern (because he knew they'd inherit hers too) for occasions when the kids come home to visit. |

Decide what it is going to cost you to replace it.

I would probably not buy a set that's been discontinued. Ours was discontinued the year after we bought it (on a huge sale. Since then, we've broken a few dinner plates -- of course, the most important pieces. The cost to replace them is almost as much as we paid for the set in the first place. PITA

I thinks it's a good price. That pattern is very pretty. You could always mix and match with pieces that were plain white with a metallic band to match your pattern.
I use my china occasionally. The pattern has long been discontinued, but I still find good deals on ebay from time to time.

There are:
13 dinner plates
13 salad plates
13 b&b plates
13 cups
12 saucers
8 bowls
2 round veggie bowls
1 oval platter
Many still have the price on them.

Go for it...quit focusing on replacements. For that price, use it till you get tired of it and replace it with something else.

The lady says she will take $225. Her original price was $350. I'm supposed to let her know soon. I'm 62 so I'm not a young woman, if that makes any difference! LOL

Sounds like a good deal with plenty of pieces. We use ours several times a year now. For 23 years it was stored in boxes in the back of a closet. I don't always use the serving pieces

You sound pretty keen, and that would be the clincher for me. If you really love the design and the price then I think you will regret not getting it. Just make sure you use and enjoy it- my good china only really gets used at Christmas and Easter. |

I think one place setting of mine now costs that amount. I didn't pay close to that as I bought it from the factory in Luxembourg, but it is pricey.
And I use it ALL the time. I love it! |
