I am a little surprised at how many of you watched with fathers/grandfathers LOL! My grandfather had Parkinson's disease, and at one point he had to stop working in the fields in the afternoons and come in out of the heat. We never realized how much he was paying attention to AW until he started getting annoyed with certain characters or concerned about what was going to happen to a character LOL! At first, he just kind of "listened" while he read a book/magazine and Grandma watched the show. Then he started asking questions about character backgrounds and how they were related. Eventually, he was as glued to the TV as she was and started planning around HIS show.
There is NO WAY he would have admitted to being a fan to anyone outside of the family, and it is funny to see that many of you also had male soap watchers in your families.

Yep, same shows!
Then I watched General Hospital ... Rick Springfield ... 'nuff said
I think I caught a glimpse of Maggie (red hair?) from DOOL (?) on another soap.
Awww, I loved the Perrinis!

I used to watch The Doctors with my grandmother. I was in love w/ Alec Baldwin's character, Billy Aldridge.

My mother got me hooked on As the World Turns when I was 10. I remember that summer was all about, I think Ellen and who her son was. After we moved the next year, I was able to walk home for lunch since we were 3 blocks away.
There was a character named Amanda that found out who her mother really was, the woman fell down a flight of stairs and she was accused of murder. I remember running home for lunch to see all I could see before racing back to school! I loved the name Amanda and it was during that time that I decided that I'd name my daughters Amanda and Michelle. When I was 8, I had a friend named Michelle for a while but they moved out of town.
Anyway, if you look at my siggy, you'll see that I have a dog named Amanda. that is because I never had a child. Since Amanda was the only girl, I named her little brother Michel.
My mother also watched Edge of Night but I never got hooked on it.
