I have been slowly trying to get the house organized this year and I have been making some good progress, but one thing is stumping me.

What do you do with those papers that you need to keep out for long term projects? My kids both have projects going on right now that require a paper to be filled out either daily or weekly. I don't want it to get buried on my desk, but if I file it I am afraid I will forget it.

Along the same lines, what do you do with advertisements that you want to remember to use? I have an Ulta coupon that doesn't start until Sunday. I need a place to put it, but don't want it cluttering up or getting buried on my desk.

Paper is my biggest nemesis. I swear it multiplies overnight!

I HATE Paperwork!

But I try to deal with it every day. If I let it pile up, it gets so overwhelming.

I hate to admit this, but I have a counter that separates the den from the dining area (on top of cabinets) and I make piles there.

One for coupons, one for bills, one for stuff that needs to be dealt with.

It's in sight and I hate the looks of it so I deal with it daily. I go through every single piece of paper every day.

Only way I can keep it in my mind what needs to be done.

Gosh, I hate to admit that...when I have company coming, I gather it all in one pile and put it in the utility room....then the next day go through every page again.

I suck at paperwork. I'd rather iron or clean toilets than do paperwork.

For the coupon, if I want to use it pretty soon, I would paper clip it to the calendar on the kitchen wall and mark it's dates on the calendar.

I have a file folder for coupons-store coupons like Kohl's, BB&Beyond, etc, not specific grocery items. Also a To Do file and Bills to Pay that I check often.

Organizing papers is a pretty broad topic, so I'm just going to give suggestions for the two problems you mentioned.

For the papers that need to be filled out daily/weekly for your children, I'd go with something that keeps them handy and visible. Like sticking them on a bulletin board or using a magnet to hang them on the refrigerator. That's assuming you don't have a tickler file you check virtually every day.

With dated coupons like that, I keep mine in the car. Usually stuck in the edge of the dashboard shield. (In my car, it covers some dial that's meaningless to me anyway!) That way I can't forget to use it.

The door from the laundry room to the garage in my house is steel- I use clips with magnets to hold daily important school stuff. It's always in the line of view coming and going to school so it's not forgotten, misfiled or missed.

Thank you for the suggestions. I do have a bulletin board that we use for upcoming stuff, but it is FULL right now!

I think sadly I am going to have to just make a pile that I go through everyday. I hate to add another task at night, but things are getting forgotten too much around here lately.

I did start adding a reminder on my phone to make sure the papers are filled out.

I would have my phone remind me of the coupon, then keep it in my purse. Admittedly, coupons are not so common here, so I never have more than about 4. For the kids, this is what I do. I have a specific file labelled 'ongoing' which is kept upright on their desk. They have to be reminded if there is something they need to do every day, but they have got used to leaving the folder on the desk, so they always know where to find it.

It's not the passage of time that heals. It's what you do with that time.

You may want to rethink how you use your bulletin board then. If checking the bulletin board is already a part of your routine, then only put the really important stuff there - - like these papers that need to be filled out on a regular basis. Make that tool WORK for you and not just be another cluttered bastion of confusion for you.

I struggle with this, too (along with all of the other miscellaneous stuff that gathers on the counter). I recently ordered two hanging organizers from 31 and am hoping that will help. There are different sized pockets on each so I can separate bills, coupons, schoolwork, etc.
