My good friend is getting married and asked if I'd heard of any non traditional wedding music - she said "we like Canon in D for the processional but would rather use something not heard as often."
I'm at a loss for what to tell her because she really could use anything! Does anyone have any they've heard that would work for a processional? I am assuming she means instrumental but I should find out. In the meantime, if anyone has any suggestions of songs...
I told her the Peas know a lot about a lot so someone might have some ideas!
*Edited with thanks and note halfway down thread* |

I had a string quartet play "Clair de Lune" by Debussy. It's one of my favourite pieces and worked well for my wedding. A lot of groups that play for weddings and other functions have their repertoire on their website and offer suggestions for those who aren't sure what they'd like played.

I agree that you can walk down the isle to just about anything. I walked down the isle to the theme music from Endless Summer. My DH surfs and we spent lots of our dating time at the beach. It was something that I had never thought of, but my DH really had his heart set on it. We were originally planning on getting married at the beach, but the night before a huge spring storm came through and we had to use plan B. So, the theme music to a surfing music wasn't too out of place.
DH has a bunch of freinds who play in a band and they were thrilled to play the song for us live. It turned out pretty cool.
I think that any song that has meaning to the couple could work just fine.

My dh is a minister, and one of the funnest wedding memories I have is after this formal, beautiful ceremony, the newlyweds walked (recessional) out to "How Sweet It Is to Be Loved By You!"
It put the biggest smile on everyone's face - such an appropriate, joyous feeling!

I used The Beatles 'In My Life' for the wedding party and 'Here Comes the Sun' when I walked down the aisle (my husband's idea). We used the instrumentals for both. We used The Cure's 'It's Friday, I'm in Love' (regular version, not instrumental) for the recessional because we got married on a Friday. Clever, huh?

I walked in to "All I Ask of You" from Phantom and we walked out to the ending song from the Muppet Show including the smart assed old guys.
Of course the signal for the wedding to start was the wedding scene from the Muppets. |

I did use Canon in D for my processional, but...
DH and Groomsmen came out to a Louis Prima mix.
My bridesmaids came out to "Once Upon a Dream" from Sleeping Beauty.
Our recessional was the theme from "The 'A' Team".
Our first dance was "Rainbow Connection" from the Muppet Movie.

Is she using an organist, pianist, live strings band, recorded music?
Vitamin String Quartet has some gorgeous covers of popular songs.
Our processional is going to be Head Over Feet (instrumental) by Vitamin String Quartet.
Recessional is Signed Sealed Delivered by Stevie Wonder. So glad someone commented they have a good memory of a fun song like this as a recessional - I think it will be the perfect thing to kick off into the reception which guests will go directly into.

I was going to recommend looking at the Vitamin String Quartet, too.
I went to a wedding and the processional was "All I Want Is You" by U2, played by the VSQ. It was beautiful. |

Just wanted to add that we had the quartet play "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz for the recessional. It was beautiful. We used that music for signing the registry.

I can't recommend this site too much:
Offbeat Bride.
I was on this site constantly in the months before my wedding. They were an awesome resource for us because we wanted a mostly traditional wedding with some tiny little untraditional things thrown in the mix. |

Interesting suggestions! I'll have to go to YouTube and check some of them out.
I attended a wedding where the processional was an instrumental version of yellow submarine. I think it was all strings. It was unusual, but I'm sure there was some significance to the couple.

My dd thinks she's walking down to Moonlight Sonata. Seriously.
Of course she still needs the ring so there may be time to persuade her differently.
The last wedding we went to they played a lot of the music from Braveheart. It was choreographed beautifully with different parts of her ceremony. It wasn't the regular Canon in D which is overused IMO.
There are places online to listen to string quartets for wedding music. You can play versions of recommended music there to see what you like.

I walked down the aisle to "simple gifts".
Our recessional was "the Throne Room" from the original star wars sound track (it's the song playing when they get their medals at the end of the movie). DH is a huge star wars fan and our minister also incorporated the theme into the ceremony |

Tell her to check weddingbee.com. There are alot of threads about alternative music. My youngest entered to Wedding March from Sound of Music - people "thought" it was familiar. In the program it says Rogers & Hammerstein.

Don't you just love that! I walked down the aisle to "Edelweiss". And during the organ music before the actual ceremony, my organist also played "Climb Every Mountain." Sound of Music is one of my all time favorites.
My sisters recessional was the Hallelujah Chorus. She got married a week before Christmas and had the organist play all Christmas music.

Just wanted to come back and thank you all so much! My friend was thrilled with the first round of suggestions I passed along to her and now I see a ton more - I think I'll just suggest she start visiting 2 peas and bookmark this thread!
I am enjoying reading all of your songs too! Makes me want a do-over where I really think about things and go "different." We just did all the typical traditional stuff - not that there's anything wrong with that at all - I looove Canon in D so I'd still have that - but if I could do it over I'd love to pick something more fun for recessional and maybe even first dance.
I'll add a few since maybe this thread will help others with ideas too!
We were at a wedding where the bride and groom were waking down for the recessional to one song, stopped halfway down the aisle and the music switched to "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley and they did this funky dance the rest of the way down. It was really cute and funny and really "fit" them.
Another friend's recessional was All You Need is Love (Beatles) and she had a Star Wars cake topper |

I walked down to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" (we used the Israel Kamakawiwo'ole version) and we walked out to the Beach Boys' "Wouldn't It Be Nice". It fit our beach wedding pretty nicely. It was a toss up between "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "The Best Is Yet To Come" for the end so we incorporated that somewhere else in the festitivies.
