CHATTY SCRAPPERS (once known as the Calendar Girls) is celebrating their second month with a new name. February is a month filled with snowy days and warm hearts bursting with love. So grab yourself a hot beverage (cocoa? coffee? tea? or maybe a hot buttered rum?) and come join us. We like to chat; we like to scrap but scrapping is not a requirement to participate. However here are some great challenges to inspire you from some of our regulars. Feel free to link ALL projects you do to the thread whether they match one of these challenges or not because we LOVE to see what you are up to. And remember February is a short month...only 28 days so don't delay.

COLOR CHALLENGE by DIANA

Use this photo as a jumping off place: aren't these colors fantastic?

BOOKMARKS CHALLENGE by THERESA

The object of this challenge is to use the layouts that you've been adding to your Bookmarks. You know that you liked them, but how often do you remember to use them as inspiration to make your own?

For this month's challenge, use the second layout on the second page of your Bookmarks. Let any part of the layout inspire you, use it as a sketch or just the colors or the theme, let the layout decide! You'll be amazed what it will do on its own.

A very important part of this challenge is that you should send a message to the Pea that inspired you. It will brighten their day! Also, add a link to their LO in the information section or the comment section. Please be very specific about identifying that you lifted that Pea, we don't want to have any hurt feelings by not giving credit where credit is due.

DIGI CHALLENGE by DEBI

Everyone loves embossed paper...so I'm going to tell you how to achieve that look digitally. Then use an embossed title or embellishment on your project. Just because I dabble in digi doesn't mean you have to (paper, hybrid and digi projects welcome ALWAYS).
Using PSE7 (although Photoshop is similar and I suspect other digital scrapping programs might be as well)

1. Open a new page (File|New|Blank file or CTRL-N) remember if you use MAC use CMD instead of CTRL key

2.Add paper layer (File|Open and go to file where papers are located, select and enter or you can open your paper and drag and drop it into PSE) I like to use a paper with some texture. Drag paper to your new page.

3. Make a duplicate layer of your paper (in layers menu on right, highlight paper layer then either Right click|duplicate layer or hit CTRL-J to make a copy above it) You now have 2 layers of the same paper. Keep the top layer highlighted.

4. For a Font...select.the text horizontal mask tool on the left (right click on T, select the hollow T), drag a large text box onto the page. Select a thicker and larger font for better results. Type your words. Select check box when you are done typing. Your words will be outlined in marching ants.

5. Go to SELECT|Inverse or Hit SHIFT-CTRL-I to select the area outside of your text. Hit Delete. Only the word will remain on the top layer.

6. You are going to add a bevel. You can do this in 2 different ways. You could go to Effects menu on the right, select Bevels and pick a bevel you like. Sometimes these are bolder than the look you are going for, so if you want a subtler look, you may need to add a shadow layer first. Click on the fx in the layer to adjust size, distance and opacity of your shadow to your liking. And add a bevel, select a size that works for your font size. Voila you now have embossed your title.

You can do similar steps to emboss a shape.

1. duplicate your paper layer

2. add your shape (either a png file or using your custom shape tool(heart shape tool-may need to right click on the rectangle to select it) select a shape and stretch it as big as you want on your page. Simplify it so you can edit it. Right click on layer in the Layers Menu and select simplify layer. need to right click on the rectangle to select it) select a shape) Simplify it so you can edit it. Right click on layer in the Layers Menu and select simplify layer.

3. CTRL-CLICK on the image box to left of layer in the Layers Menu to highlight the shape with the marching ants. SELECT|Inverse or Hit CTRL-SHiFT I to select area outside of shape. Hit delete.

4. Add bevel, or shadow and bevel to get the look you want.
Have fun with this. I think it's very cool. You can add as many embossed shapes, letters, borders etc just make sure each one is on a separate duplicate layer of your paper.

SKETCH CHALLENGE by TONI

TECHNIQUE CHALLENGE by MONICA B.

This month your challenge is to stitch around a shape. You could interpret this in many different ways - stitch around a diecut shape, a photo, your title letters, a stamped image, etc. On my page, I misted over a mask, and then added stitching for extra dimension:

I can't wait to see what you come up with!

All the challenges look great....
Thanks Debi for posting them.

Good Morning Sweet Peas...Happy February!

The new challenges look like a lot of fun, I really want to get more done this month.

Life here continues to be very fast. I've finished my first month on the new job, there is sooo much to get done, but I am busy plowing my way through it. My sister has also been here...for a month...now her husband has shown up and is here too. I've been so glad to see her, but it is REALLY hard for me to get the things done that I need to at home when she is here any time that I'm not at work. I guess that it's not that deep, I'll just be glad when things slow down a bit and I can get my home back in order.

It's been snowing and having freezing rain here again, Ron had a hard time getting home from church yesterday. I'm headed out in a few, I hope the roads aren't too bad, our kids are on a 2 hour delay for school today because it's super cold.

I hope you all have a wonderful Friday!

Good morning. Happy February!
Today is a busy day with 1/2 day at school, both kids have teacher conferences, Rebecca is jumping in jump rope for heart, I was asked to drive a few kids home from the jump rope event, and then tonight we are going to an acrobatic performance. One of my Daisy mom's gave us tickets for the show- I'm very excited as it's nothing we would have done on our own. We are letting the kids each bring a friend too, so it should be fun. Now if only Kobe hadn't woke me almost an hour before the alarm to go to the bathroom. I'll never sleep, so thought I would get caught up on January praise.

Barbara- hope your headache goes away soon.

Can't remember who asked, but we don't know Rebecca's triggers yet.Interesting, Nylene, about the piece of dark chocolate. May have to try that. My migraines have almost completely disappeared- one in part to my hysterectomy (they were primarily menstrual migraines but I kept my ovaries, so technically my hormones are the same). The second- I gave up Diet Coke and all other sodas. This played a huge part in the migraines, and I didn't even realize it.

Cathy- good for you- nothing to apologize for to be comfortable! I'd love your organization tips, so keep them coming when you feel up to it. My DH is a pack rat. Enough said.

Tina- bless you for taking her in for so long. will she stay now that hubby is there?? or is he moving in too?? even family, no matter how precious they are, put a cramp in regular routines.

OK, my time is up. have a great day!

Good morning,

Thanks, DEBI, for getting February up & running! All of the challenges look great...thanks CHALLENGE GIRLS. (You all clearly need a better title than that! )

I am feeling much better and hoping it stays that way. Not much going on today so perhaps I will get some scrapping done! Although I'm experiencing a little insomnia this morning. It started last night...I was going to post one last time in January, but saw that MICHELLE wanted to be last so I waited 'til this morning. Julia's in pre school today, so Charlotte's naps will pose the dilemma: Scrap or nap?

Wanda -- Nice to see you. Hope this is a good sign that we'll see you more this month.

Theresa -- Be safe. I've never been a big weather watcher (spoiled), but today I'll be watching your area.

Tina -- So you sister (and her husband?!) don't help around the house? Sorry, I know it's not funny. There are two kinds of house guests...I think I know which type you currently have.

Is anyone doing anything for Super Bowl? We've invited a couple of friends over. I am soooo happy to be staying home this year. (It's my mom's birthday, but she doesn't feel well and doesn't want us to come visit yet.) Despite having been born and raised in the (SF) Bay Area, I really, really, REALLY do NOT like the 49ers. Honestly, these days I just watch for the commercials.

(It's a bad foot ball year for me: my college rival team won the Rose Bowl - Stanford. And my professional rival team is picked to win this Sunday. Being a CAL and a RAIDER fan is very trying! Fortunately, having children has put this sort of thing into perspective.)

Have a great Friday everyone. I'm off to try to sleep a little before the girls wake up...

Thanks everyone for the challenges...sorry Toni that I didn't know you went by the alias LARRY and I kept deleting your emails thinking they were spam. CATHY could that be the problem with your email too--that it's listed under a name I didn't recognize...Oy!It's not too late to submit a challenge if the urge arises

This was my first time posting the start of the thread. If there are any problems with it, please let me know and I'll adjust. Looks like a fun set of inspirational challenges to start us off and already we have had severtal people jump in and start the month off chatting.

NYLENE I'm sending the code for a smaller photo for the Color challenge for your blog linking. CHeck your peamail.

Well 2 kids crashed before 12:30 (Ethan who always does and Owen, my son) Noah and Spencer were still going strong at 3:30 a.m. but when I got up at 8:00 a.m. Owen was awake and I guess Spencer never slept. The 2 are playing xbox. Noah's sleeping and I think Ethan moved to Noah's bed. Crazy kids. I didn't hear anything past 3:30 as I crashed then myself. Feeling ok this morning, a little stiff (kind of overdid it yesterday --I know, MiCHELLE, you warned me). Nothing a good hot shower won't help loosen up, I hope. Either way I still feel tons better than I did the last 2 months, even if I'm not fully recovered. I'm on my way. YAY! Thanks to all of you listening to me vent about my physical trials. You've been so patient.

I need to go down and prep for breakfast so when everyone is up, I can fix it quickly. French toast, fruit salad, juice or milk and maybe bacon. Sound good?

Will drop by later.

Hi again,

A friend is coming down for to spend the day with Charlotte & me! My friend Diane (owner of Scrapbook Territory in Berkeley) is coming down to surprise Julia because it's been so long since we've seen her. While I desperately could use some rest, I much prefer company!

I'm headache free and the sun is out. Should be a nice day.

Tammy -- I was out of breath reading your itinerary! Have a good time at that show...sounds like fun. What a nice gift!

Cathy -- I keep forgetting to say: PLEASE do share organization tips! I am constantly trying to *stay* organized...I 'get' organized, but that's one day of work, maybe a week. It's staying that way as weeks & months pass that is an issue for me. (I once wrote an article on organizing your scrap room/stuff. For a mag. It was pretty good, too. But it's hard to stick to some of the principal ideas. )

Debi -- You already sound like a new woman! I am so happy for you that your pain is diminishing and you are feeling better. Sounds like the boys had fun...oh, and may I have some breakfast, please? I looooooove french toast!

Melissa -- I might be to 'new' to say this, but we are ALWAYS taking newbies. Welcome! We're pretty cool. You'll like us.

Sherri -- YES PLEASE to a stash challenge. I have aaaaaaaahHAHLOT of stash. And I love motivation for using it. (I will peaMail you re meeting in Berkeley.)

Nylene -- thanks for the box; hoping I get to use it more this month. Hope you (and hubby) are doing well.

Toni, Jan, Linda, et al --- Happy Heart Month. <3 <3 <3

Ok not to be outdone here's my first February LO using 3 (count them-3!) of the Chatty Scrapper's challenges (digi, sketch and technique)...

MOM'S CHRISTMAS GOOSE

MELISSA- WELCOME, COME RIGHT IN

boys are all awake, played a game of RISK and now are having another nerf gun fight. No takers for breakfast yet, but given it's nearly 11 a.m. think I'll mosey down and start it anyway.

Catch you later.

Good afternoon ladies! I come off my scrapbook spending freeze for a bit today, and am looking forward to incorporating some of these challenges in the layouts I will now be able to do. (Since when I freeze, even photo printing doesn't happen.)

I hope everyone is doing well, or at least better, this month. Look forward to chatting more soon.

Hi, everyone!

Debi, thanks for the new thread. I know it's a lot of work. And thanks to the CHALLENGE GIRLS as Barbara calls them. Great challenges.

I have already started one with Diana's colors. I'm having a hard time working orange into the mix. Have an idea for using one of the sketches, too, Toni.

Have a great month. Welcome Melissa!

NYLENE you don't have to use orange in the color challenge (the color swatch at the bottom has neither the greens or oranges in the photo) however you can add those colors or any others to your liking. It is a cool picture isn't it?

I may have to see what I can do with it.

Hi, Everyone!
Just want to pop in and say hi
Can't believe it is the first day of February.
Have to admit I am in a bit of a bad mood tonight but hopefully tomorrow will be better.

And really great challenges!!!
I am looking forward to trying a few.
The sketch challenge last month was great so I printed up another one, along with the color, technique and bookmark. I probably should check out the digi, too since I have the newest version of PSE and have yet to use it!

Hope you all have a great weekend if I don't make it back by!

Ok this was a bit of a stretch but that's what challenges are for, right? I picked the RISK board since it had the colors in the color challenge and went with that...

Halo Risk

I can't believe my kids. Their friends went home and now they are playing online with them....LOL You'd think they would have had enough of each other for awhile anyway.

Lazy day. Didn't do much constructive. Been taking it easy and scrapping a bit. Sun is going down now so the evening is setting in. Need to start thinking about dinner...

"CATHY there is no shame to being financially comfortable. Kudos to you. And yes some of us are struggling (I am one) but that is no reason to downplay your good fortune."

Thanks for the kudos, but they should really go to my husband - he makes all the money! Although, maybe I do deserve kudos for marrying such a great guy who is also a very good provider! I just wish everyone was free of struggles.

Theresa - I've always thought Kentucky was a warm state, but it seems you are getting more snow than we are in Conn! I hope the driving isn't dangerous.

Tina - your sister has been visiting for a MONTH? I take it she doesn't have a job, or kids, or pets... Now that her husband is there, will she be going home?

Tammy - I can't imagine living with a pack rat, I'd go insane. Mark's house was a MESS (looked like something from 'Hoarders') when I moved in with him, but not because he was a pack rat - he was just too lazy to throw anything away or do any housework! I'm sure that if I hadn't moved in with him the house would have been condemned long ago. Someday I'm going to do a 'Before and After' album of this house...

Barb - did you have a nice, headache-free day with your friend? We aren't planning to watch the Super Bowl, now that the Patriots won't be in it. Bummer.

Sherri - good luck with Lanie's party!

Debi - it made me tired to just READ about all the work you did getting ready for the boys' sleepovers. I'm so glad you are feeling better, but please, take it easy! BTW, that breakfast sounded wonderful, can I come over some day?

Welcome Melissa! I'm new here too and finding it to be a very welcoming, friendly place!

The local Michael's is having a Crop today and I'd love to go, but it's from 3-9 and if I go I won't have much time with my hubby. But we went out last night and we'll have all day Sunday, so maybe I will go. Don't know what I'll work on though...

One of the best organizing tips that I can pass on is this - use an egg timer. It's so easy to get overwhelmed and think that you just don't have time to do anything. Use an egg timer. Set it for 15 minutes and then just do SOMETHING. Even if all you do is clear a space so that you have a place to organize, that's something. Carving out even 15 minutes from a busy schedule can be difficult, but if you do it every day, you'll be amazed how things start getting done. Many of my clients have told me that this tip really works for them.

If you have any specific organizing questions, just ask and I'll try to answer!

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Barbara, is there any way I could see the organizing article that you wrote? I love sharing ideas!

The whole idea of being organized should be to make it easy to STAY organized. It takes some practice and a little bit of effort, but it should quickly become a habbit that makes life easier. So if you try something and find it isn't working for you, try something else.

Take sorting mail, for example. The most effective way to do it is to do it as soon as you walk in the door. If at all possible, you should have a 'landing strip' - a place where you take off your coat and set your purse and the mail. There should be a waste bin there and a shredder. As soon as you have your coat off, go through the mail. Toss or shred the junk, recycle the catalogs and put everything else in the 'IN' box. Then go put the groceries away! (The exception is ice cream - you can put that away before sorting the mail!)

This way the junk mail never builds up. Your bills are neatly contained and ready for you to deal with them each month.

However, if you have kids who greet you screaming at the door or if you are simply too exhausted from work to deal with the mail every day, then this method won't work for you. In this case, you need a bigger 'IN' box - a basket or bin - to just toss all the mail in until you can deal with it. It will be harder when the time comes, because the mail has built up, but if you MAKE yourself deal with it weekly, then it won't be too bad.

There are many different ways to be organized, you just have to find the ways that work for you.

Morning all. We have to go to a funeral today for a friend's Dad and then Randy and I may run over to Bowling Green or may come home, who knows.

Took photos to the crop last night to work on the baby album for my friend Lori and was so proud of myself for taking all the stash of baby stuff to use. Got there and then realized that all the photos are not "baby colors" at all. Didn't get a single page done! Had a good time though visiting and ooohhhing and aaahhhhing over my friends pages. One of my Owensboro friends came (Diane for those that went to Scrapfest with us--she said to say hi) and she brought the three oldest granddaughters. They were so excited. Insisted I had to help them all make wiper cards for their teachers for Valentine's Day (I showed two of them how to make them last year and they remembered them but not how to make them.)

Cathy, I did the timer cleaning too and it does work. Got it from Fly Lady. She has great tips but the constant emails that came from her resulted in way too much email to deal with. Started using the timer for the computer time too but of course it had to be 30 minutes not 15 and I need to go back to that. I spend way too much time in front of the laptop. Think I'll restart that practice.

As for the weather in Kentucky, we definitely love having all the Seasons here. But, and I'm not joking, it changes so quickly there are some days that it starts out Winter and ends up Summer! It's gotten a lot worse with the Global Warming, we're right in the middle of where the cold and warm weather fronts collide in the States so we get it all. Weather forecasters are calling for snow flurries today so I guess we'll get accumulation since they've been calling for accumulation and all we've got is flurries, LOL.

Praised up.

I always say what I mean, I just may not mean to say it out loud!

First layout uploaded (3rd completed others to be posted shortly) for this months challenge, fulfilling the Digi Emboss prompt.

Hope this is correct. I don't have the program that the instructions were written for, so I did the best I could to achieve the look of embossing in digital. I really like the look of the page Debi posted so I hope I can get better at this technique in my program.

Hey ladies!

It's so awesome to see so many of you checking in as we start our new month...makes me happy!

Griffin had been sick earlier this week...his germs must have been potent...now I'm sick. I haven't been sick in several years, I'm usually super healthy. I felt awful yesterday and this morning. I'm a ridiculous early morning person and I never sleep during the day, but I've been a zombie today...so exhausted and sick.

My sister lives in Seattle and she doesn't work, she's on disability, she does have a son who is very mentally ill, he lives in a group home in Utah, so she doesn't really have a lot that makes her have to go home. Her husband (whom I've never met), doesn't work most of the time, although now he is driving a semi again, so she decided to drive back with him to Seattle instead of flying. She's been going back & forth between my house and my parents (1 1/2 hours away) for the last month. They were supposed to come to my house today, but I don't know if they'll show up or not since I'm sick.

I'm hoping that I'm human again by tomorrow, we were supposed to hang out with friends for the Super Bowl. Barbara - it's too funny that you live there and don't like the 49ers, being a Raiders fan would be a little rough, it's been a while since they were very good. We love the Colts...and I watch Denver now that Payton is there.

Forgot to mention that I GOT A CAMEO this week!!! It just came in the mail, when I feel human again, I can't wait to play with it! I'd been wanting one forever, but finally decided to get one.

Hope you all are having a nice day, I'm off to leave some praise.

Hi ladies,

Yesterday was absolutely Suffice it to say it ended in Berkeley (about 70 miles from home) with me & the girls spending the night at my friend's house. (And yes, I sneaked in a trip to Scrapbook Territory this morning.)

Tina -- So sorry you are not feeling well; hope you feel better tomorrow. Rest, rest, rest!! Congrats on the Cameo. I am pondering one myself. A big step up from the Cricut, I'm told. I do love my Cricut...but *really* like the flexibility of the Cameo. Yes, being a Raider fan is very, very challenging. But I've been doing it since I was 9 (just towards the end of their reign of dominance. ).

Cathy -- Before I was 9, I was a Patriots fan! Have you always been? My uncle, Jon Morris, was inducted into their Hall of Fame last year (maybe the year before?) So, I'll always be a little bit of a fan. Thank you for the organizing tips. I am definitely going to try the egg-timer thing. If you send me your mailing address (in PeaMail) I will send you a copy of the mag that has the organization article. (If you subscribed to Scrapbook Answers, you may have read it already.)

Theresa -- I remember the wiper card! Would you be willing to share it again? I think I wanted to try it and never got around to it last year.

Toni -- yay! for scrapping! I hope that means you're getting a little time for yourself in the midst of your busy schedule.

Mary Jo -- I hope you are in better spirits today.

Debi -- I at your "Mom's Christmas Goose" LO. I expected pics of your Christmas DINNER!!!!

I should be planning snacks for the Super Bowl tomorrow. We're having a few friends over and I have nothing to feed them. I want it all settled so I can scrap tonight...bought adhesive this morning and am now itching to scrap!

Waving 'HI' to Nylene, Maribeth, Ellen, Diana, Monica, LINDA!!

Tina, I am so sorry that you are sick. I hope your sister doesn't expect you to entertain them when you are feeling rotten. Hope you are doing better tomorrow. You have so much going on right now, you don't need long-term house guests!

Theresa, I'm sorry you didn't get a lot done at the crop. I accomplish so much more at home than at a crop, but I like the interaction. Sounds like it turned out OK.

Maribeth, you are really on a roll! Keep up the good work/scrapping!

Barbara, sounds like you had a crazy day. How was the trip to the Scrapbook store. That makes any day better! Are you feeling totally well now. No more headache?

Cathy, I love your organizing tips. DH and I are both packrats and emotionally tied to so many things from his mom's home and my parents' home. Needless to say, neatness in housekeeping is not my forte! Too many things to fit in our little home. We also still have LOTS of stuff belonging to our grown children. One doesn't yet have a home, so we have a lot of her stuff. Keep the ideas coming.

Toni, I love seeing your scrap pages. I know scrapping relieves my stress so I hope you it relieves yours too. Hang in there. Love your sketches this month.

Waving hello to all those I missed! I finished another page today. It's a super-simple one with hardly any embellishments, but pretty much my normal style!

You ALL are invited for breakfast if you are in town. LOL I like making french toast for my boys' friends because some of their mom's never do. I have one kid who always thanks me for making it...he loves french toast and it's so easy to make. We ended up having sausage links instead of bacon. The boys ate it up quite nicely.

The 2nd round of sleepovers is happening tonight. The boys just finished a hearty meal of homemade tacos with all the trimmings (ground beef, refried beans, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, sour cream, black olives, avocado and cheese) on soft heated corn tortillas. Yum! Their snacks are set up (doritos, potato chips, goldfish, cashews, swedish fish, bananas, strawberries, red & green grapes, chocolate chip cookies and snickerdoodles). They have soda, juice, milk (option of plain, strawberry or chocolate) for refreshments. They have the Xbox, Netflixs, board games and their arsenal of nerf weapons to occupy themselves. I have retired to my room, available if needed but out of sight. It's fun to listen to them playing in the other room, watching videos and giggling like a bunch of girls. They are having a good time. Easiest party ever compared to some of the doozies I did when they were younger with up to 30 kids attending.

CATHY good for you for finding a "good" man. And sounds like he found his true mate, a "good and organized" woman in you. A match made in heaven.

I used to live in Connecticut (for 2 years when I attended UConn in Storrs for grad school). ALthough the geography is similar to where I live now (Washington state), it was interesting how different the subcultures were from the east coat to the west coast. Almost like 2 different countries...LOL

Did you make it to the crop? I haven't been to a crop in years. There aren't many places to go to any around here anymore, and since I switched to digi, I'm happy scrapping at home and sharing with my imaginary friends online.

THEESA LOL the best laid plans don't always pan out do they? You with all your baby papers and photos that don't match. That's just not right. How sweet of you to teach the girls how to make the wiper cards.

MARIBETH I think your embossed page came out great. It's all about playing with the amount of bevel and shadow.

TINA even the mighty fall sometimes. So sorry Griffin's virus snagged you too. Hope you recover quickly.

BARBARA I understand the conflict with team loyalty and where you live. My boys love the NY Yankees and hate the Seattle Mariners...yet we live in Seattle. Oh well.

Ok enough chatter from me. I'm sitting comfortably under my toasty blanket, with a soda by my side and some swedish fish I snuck from the boys' stash ready to scrap, or watch a movie, or surf the web...who knows. I just know I have no where I have to be other than here right now. And that's a good thing.

Hi Everyone!

Theresa - what is a wiper card?

I always thought that New England's weather was changeable, until I lived in Ohio. As you said about Kentucky - you can have all 4 seasons in one day! The weather in Ohio was downright FREAKY at times, I imagine KY is the same.

The timer tip does come from Fly Lady and, like you, I've actually used it more to limit my time on the computer than with housework! I do spend a ridiculous amount of time online, but since the demise of 'groups' in favor of Facebook, it just isn't as much fun anymore. I really dislike Facebook! I also find this type of forum so much HARDER to use than groups... but I must be in the minority because forums and Facebook are here and groups are mostly gone... (waaaahhhh!) Anyway, I find myself sitting at the computer a bit less nowadays, and I guess that's a good thing!

I'm curious... why would the color in the photographs matter? Do you guys actually try to match the colors you want to use to the photos? I usually just frame my photos as part of my color palette. I'd love to hear your tips about this!

Barbara - sorry yesterday was so crazy, I hope today is better.

My email addy is: pharohel @ aol.com (remove the spaces). Feel free, any of you, to email me anytime - I love email! I'd love to get the article you wrote. (Just in case you are wondering, Pharoh was the name of my beloved horse.)

Actually, I'm not really much of a sports fan at all. Neither Mark or I watch sports, unless it's something really important, like the Red Sox in the World Series or the Patriots in the Super Bowl. Even then I have to ask friends how they are doing during the season to even KNOW if they are playing! But many of my friends and most of my family are BIG Patriots fans. We all came from Mass. (more or less) so it's fun to be a fan here. And who doesn't love Tom Brady - he is SO cute!

That's pretty cool about your uncle!

Tina - I hope that you feel better today and that you have fun with your cameo! (I first read that as 'camaro' and thought - how exciting, a new car! LOL!)

Nylene - I'm glad you are enjoying my organizing tips. I will keep them coming.

Debi - so you lived in CT? How interesting! I've been to Storrs many times. I've never been to the Pacific Northwest though - I'd LOVE to visit out there. Mark spent time in Bremerton WA and he says it was beautiful. Do you ever see the Northern Lights? Both Mark and I REALLY want to see them!

You sound a lot like me - happy to be cozy in my own home with nowhere you have to be and nothing in particular you have to do. I love that feeling! I'm glad the boys are having such fun at their parties!

Yes, I did go to the Michael's crop. Although I was the ONLY ONE there (except for the woman running it) I had a good time and she actually taught me some new things and gave me great tips, so it was well worth it. I will go again, if I can - I just hope other people show up! Micheal's is having a 40% off sale tomorrow, and there are some frames I want to buy for a gift I'm making for a friend. I just hope the snow we are supposed to get doesn't keep me from going.

I just LOVE going to Crops! I'm a pretty outgoing person (in case you hadn't noticed) so being in social groups is really fun for me. I learn a lot, get to see all the different tools and best of all, they have BIG tables so I can spread out! In fact, until I joined this group, I had done almost NO scrapping at home. But now, talking with you girls, I get so enthused, I have done more at home.

Speaking of doing more - my new 'toy', the photo converter, works great!! It's really fast and very easy to use. Now I need some sort of photoshop program so I can fix up the pics that need it and I'll be all set! But lots of the pics are just fine, so I can continue working on my pet scrap album. Yay!

Have a great Sunday!

Cathy McD

CATHY I lived in Storrs, CT for 2 years while I got my MA. I was there during a winter with record snowfall, we had snow up to the 2nd story for months, and had to walk to classes through snow tunnels. Crazy. In fact my car was completely buried and people skiied over the top--LOL

I was born in Seattle, and try as I might, I keep ending up back here. I've gone other places many times but here I am, so guess it's where I'm supposed to be. I like it here in the PNW and I live fairly close (1 hr) from my mom, who is my best friend. I do dream of being in warm tropical places like Hawaii, but rainy but gorgeous Seattle I reside. As for Northern Lights, we don't really see them here...more north towards ALaska. But if you ever come this way, please look me up.

It must have been a bit frustrating for the crop host to have only one participant (I'm assuming bad weather is part of the reason) but how cool for you to have one on one time. I used to love to go to crops for the socializing aspect. I always liked the all night ones.

I keep thinking I should host a crafting night at my house on Friday nights when the boys are at their dad's but not too many of people I know do any crafts. Sure would like the girls night in though.

Kids are going strong, but I think I may be heading to bed soon. It's close to midnight. That might be late enough for me. It's interesting to compare the 2 different set of friends. Thursday night was noisy due to nerf gun wars and they were quite messy (lots of chips on the floor, etd) but tonight's group is more chatty and argumentative (in a good way-strategizing their xbox games and playing RISK), they are eating their food downstairs and the room is still quite in order, surprisingly. A lot more giggling going on too. Thursday's kids were winding down some by now and this group is going strong. I hope I can sleep while they are being loud (they are in the room next to mine). But no fighting in either group and everyone seems to be having a good time.

Off to bed (well for me at least)

Happy snowy February all. I can't believe that it is already February but I love the challenges this month hopefully I will have a few minutes to work on some of them.

The weather this week has been a crazy mess. We had rain for two days and temps close to 50 which melted all the snow we got the week before, had flood warnings all over the place. Then by Wednesday it was cold and more lake effect snow and it hasn't stopped since. I think we have gotten at least a foot of snow in the past three days and we are supposed to get at least 2 more inches the next 2 days. It's been so cold that I have not wanted to do anything but sit under a blanket to keep warm.

I've been seeing the nurse at my job for the past 3 weeks, been having trouble with the muscles in my right shoulder and the nerves in my right elbow. Well we have finally got my shoulder calmed down a bit and was talking to her and saying that the brace that they want me to wear at night makes my hands swell up so bad that I can barely use them in the morning. To make a long story shorter she is suggesting that I be tested for RA. It does run on both sides of my family so I'm not really surprised but just a little scared, it would explain all the pain that I have had for the past few years. Right now I am just trying to loose some of the rest of my baby weight to see if that will help some.

Cathy- I use a timer for my online stuff too ( actually it just went off) but I might have to try that for house work during the week. I am a huge sports fan and yes Tom Brady is a very nice looking man and also and alum of my favorite college team University of Michigan.

Tina- Hope you are feeling better today.

Theresa- shucks about the baby LO's but glad you had a good time at the crop anyway.

Debi- sounds like a good time is being had by all.

Well I gotta run and get my food in the crock pot for after church. TTYL

Jodi, you could have a pinched nerve in your back. RA usually starts with more pain in the smaller joints but of course you never know, everyone is different.

Cathy, glad you had fun at the "just for you" crop. The wiper card is actually easy to make but it looks complicated to the person that receives it. Here's a link to a tutorial I found on the internet. And

here's one I made last year.

Tina, hope you feel better today and that your sister goes home soon. The extra stress around there is probably what has caused you to get sick.

Debi, sounds like the boys are having a great weekend. Hope they'll let you sneak a few photos. I know it gets harder at that age but Jeremy said now that he sure wishes he'd let me take more when he was a teen.

We ended up going to Bowling Green after the funeral yesterday and had a nice time despite me not feeling well. My blood pressure was low and I had a sore throat so other than going to eat and to Sam's I just sat in the car reading and let him go into the book store. Saved a bunch of money that way too, LOL!

Woke up to an inch of snow this morning, just called for flurries. Randy had to be at work at 5 and he said it was just slushy snow, looks pretty. Still not feeling all that great and haven't decided if I'm going to church or not. Best hit the shower though either way.

edited to add: praised up

morning all -

our internet keeps going in and out...sooooo frustrating...ever since they put in the "new" router last year. So much for new and improved, LOL.

I did get a page done last night for a challenge on a song; to use a word or line from the song Wanted: Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi...I'll post it later. Just glad to finally be able to use these pics with something, LOL.

I haven't been able to read anything because of the internet, and I have to get ready for work. We had some snow last night too, but just a little and hopefully the roads will be fine. I only work 'til three today, so hoping to scrap more when I come home.

you all

Good morning.
Welcome Melissa and Maribeth! Love the challenges this month-thanks to all who submitted one and to Debi for pulling it all together! I think my wrist is doing well enough to start scrapping a bit- but I'm forcing myself to get our taxes pulled together and to the accountant before I do. I spent yesterday reconciling all the business books for the year. NOw to pull together the other stuff for it. My goal is to have it to the accountant by Wednesday.

I used to be a big fly lady follower when I worked FT. She is probably the reason I stayed sane during that time. I frequently do the timer bit and alternate scrapping/housework etc. during it. Gary and I were talking about the decline of hobbies in general. I think the internet/surfing the web/social media has taken a huge chunk of those who would have started hobbies as they were growing up or following in parent footsteps in hobbies. Even those of use who were around before the internet have let hobbies decline with time on the computer. It's actually sad to me.

marking my praisemarker. Gary and I were called on to switch days teaching Sunday school, so I guess I better go read the lesson.

Decided I just was going to stay home today and rest up so I'm still in my pajamas. Am going to go put on some sweats though cause I can't seem to get warm and they are more presentable in case someone drops by.

If you need any more challenges, some of the earlier gals might remember Marianne (ScrapNatya) that used to be a CG, she's started a Stash Busters Challenge Thread

Good afternoon!

Debi - Thanks for posting the thread and Barbara - thanks for letting me be last. Just thought I'd be due to the tie, but obviously you were up a bit later than I expected.

Debi - Glad the boys had fun with their sleepovers. They can get noisy at the best of time. Our neighbour's son slept over here last night too. He is 13 and he and Kyle (4!) were up till after 11 while the other 2 passed out around 9. This afternoon was bliss though as they all took a nap.

Diana - the challenge looks great. That is an awesome picture.

Maribeth - Wow! You are certainly working your way through the challenges quickly each month. You go, girl!

Melissa - Welcome! Jump right in and tell us a bit about yourself.

Toni - I can't imagine having any guest, even my brothers, staying for a month. They would get roped into the family routine after about 5 days and that would send them scurrying home, lol. My brother is visiting from London in two weeks time, but, though I love him to bits, my life can't stop just bacause he is here.

Cathy - Only 15min at time! You must be joking! I'd never survive on only 15min bits of organising, scrapping, internet time, etc. I get too absorbed in what I'm doing. Hmmm, maybe that is why so little actually gets done Glad you enjoyed you crop and already have shopping plans.

Talking about shopping - I placed an order here for mostly sale stuff but also EP's Scoot collection that I just fell in love with. I've been a good frozen pea for months but got my tax return on Friday and it was more than I was expecting, so used a bit of it to treat myself. Now just to wait for the box - it takes an average of 2 weeks to get here HeeHee, see, I removed the 'frozen pea' from my siggy seeing as things are going better financially. I'm shopping again! Cathy, you have no reason to feel bad about being comfortable. We were for a long time but life got in the way. Things are, however, looking better for this coming year.

I spent my Sunday on the couch with 'The life of Pi'. It is an amazing book and leaves you wondering. It was such fun to just relax for a change. We have actually had a relaxing weekend. On Friday night we went to the start-of-year Summer Sizzler social at school. Everyone brings a picnic and we chat and braai(bbq) with the other parents and teachers. Great way to get to know everybody. It was quite busy as there are about 830 kids in the primary school this year.

Off, to see if I can start one of the challenges. They look such fun! Keep warm there. We boiled this past week but today has been overcast and cooler (80's) Feb is normally the hottest month of the year, so not looking forward to it.I'm just thankful the wind is blowing. They don't call it the 'Cape Doctor' for nothing. We die of heat when there is no wind.

Have a restful but productive Sunday.

praisemark!

Good Morning Everyone. It's 9 o'clock and the boys are out like a light, but I don'tthink they crashed til after 6 a.m. They definitely were still going strong at 4:00 when I got up to go to the restroom. I'll let them sleep, but in an hour or so I'll make breakfast.

As for me, another night of restless sleep. ( woke up a lot, some might be due to the boys making noise next door but I think I need to move off the loveseat and back to a bed now that my joint pain is decreasing some. I might sleep better if I can stretch out.

JODI please get tested. I hope THERESA is right in that it is just a pinched nerve. RA is no picnic but the meds they have for it now if you catch it early can prevent soooo much damage to you joints long term and minimize the pain. I've had full-blown RA for 40 years and over 20 of that I was living on 16 aspirin/day...I have tons of damage to my bones, consequently loss of strength and range of motion, and lots of pain. If you have followed me in the last 2 months while I waited for a prescription to get back on ENBREL, you will understand how debilitating this disease can be. Mine started when I was a teen, and it roamed for awhile from one joint to another before finally settling in everywhere. Catch it early and your quality of life will be so much better. And although drs often recommend icing an inflamed joint, I have found for me HEAT in any form is my friend. I hope you find out soon what is responsible for your pain and are able to treat it. Keeping my weight down, and avoiding certain trigger foods (for me, sugar can aggravate the inflammation) can help.

Hey JODI what are you making in the crock pot? I'm looking for some new recipes.

THERESA thanks for reposting the wiper card instructions. it's such a fun card.
Sorry you're still feeling under the weather. I thought you had that blood pressure stablized. I saw that thread STASH BUSTERS but hadn't opened it yet, since with digi there is no need to use up stuff, but I'll need to check it out.

TONI I hate when the internet won't work. Knock on wood, but for whatever reason my cable connection hasn't had any problems now for several months, but for awhile I had to reboot everything several times a day-it was getting very annoying especially when you spend so much for the service. Hope you get time to scrap today.

TAMMY for sure, we need to get together. I don't usually pick berries at that place, prefer a place in North Bend (Bybee Farms) but the kids wanted to pick berries with these boys who visit for the summer but were heading home in a day or two. We went on the day the farm was first open and honestly it was too early--not enough ripe berries. But we had fun anyway. This place was closer.

TONI I agree with MICHELLE, hard to imagine anyone staying for over a month even family. 2 weeks usually is about my limit unless they join in and become part of the family--helping with daily chores etc. Guess I'm not the best host-LOL.

MICHELLE that's a big elementary school. My kids elementary had 550 kids and I think it is the biggest in the district. Of course coming from a high school of 300 myself, it seemed huge to me. The boys' middle school is 950 and the other local middle school is 1200+. I haven't yet looked to see how big the high schools are...it sure is different from my humble rural education. The BBQ and picnic sounds like fun for parents and the kids. Funny your February is your hottest month when ours often can be our coldest.

Ok I'm caught up. I should head downstairs and do the dinner dishes so I can start breakfast but I think I'll linger just a while longer under this heated throw. It's making my achy shoulder feel so much better at the moment.

Have a happy scrappy day. And for those of you watching the SuperBowl eat some snacks for me. I'm heading up to my mom's for a couple hours after the boys' friends go home to help her with her grocery shopping and errands. Her friend who takes her to town each week fell and hasn't been too steady this week, so it'll be good to get her set up for the week.

Good afternoon all we had a great sermon at church today, I just hate getting there and finding out that we have to do the sound board because we don't have a schedule for that part of the church stuff. Oh well it all worked out in the end.

Theresa- they are actually concerned with the pain and swelling that I have been getting in my hands and wrists, my shoulder is just balled up muscles that I have to have heat and biofreeze put on frequently. Glad you had a good day yesterday even though you didn't feel well.

Toni- I don't know if I could survive with out my internet, not to mention I wouldn't be able to get any of my school work done. I hope you get to scrap more today too love looking at your work.

Tammy- I need to get all of our tax stuff around and get it to my father-in-law not wanting to do it though. Glad to hear that you are feeling good enough to scrap that is always a good feeling. I might have to check out this Fly lady might be what I need to keep my house in order with my crazy busy schedule lately.

Michelle- sounds like you have had a very fun Sunday, that is a lot of kids in the primary school, a lot of the schools around here are pretty big but I don't think they are that big. It is so funny to me to hear that February is your hottest month since it is one of the coldest months of the year here in Michigan.

Debi- yes I have been reading about your trouble getting your meds and I know all to well what RA can do. My great grandmother and my grandfather both had it. My GG was in a wheelchair and her fingers were completely sideways when she passed. My Gpa was not as bad but he was only 70 when he passed away and he was former military so he had access to all the newest treatments. I hope that I am just being paranoid but I have had pain in my hands for many years right now Aleve is one of my best friends and I hate having to take it so much. As for the crock pot I made a white chicken chili that I was trying for the first time didn't really care for this one gonna have to get my mother-in-laws recipe.

Well I have my homework done now to clean the house so that maybe I can play a little before bed.

I had to WAKE the boys at 1:00 p.m. They were sound asleep. Fed them a good hearty breakfast (scrambled eggs with cheese, sausage links, fruit salad, donuts, juice) and now at 2:00 p.m. they have gone home. Just jumped in the shower and now headed up to mom's. Maybe we will have time for an hour at the casino if mom's up for it. She's been a bit discouraged about it because it's been awhile since we've won anything.

Here's a LO I did this morning while waiting for the boys to wake up.

Hey Sweet Peas!

Thank you all for the well wishes, I am still sick, but better than yesterday, so thanks for the kind words. My sister ended up choosing not to enter our house of germs this weekend. I may try to see her tomorrow, she's saying that they are leaving town on Tuesday. It's been good to see her, it just came a a really stressful time in my life.

Cathy - LOL on the Camaro! My husband would LOVE that sooo much more than he appreciates the Cameo. I did get a new car this week, but it's a Murano, not a super fun sports car.

Debi - I'm so glad that you are feeling human again and that you are up and about again. It sounds like the boys had a great time this weekend. We have Nerf wars at the church once a month with the kids and they always love it.

I hope you are all having a good Superbowl Sunday...I'm off to watch more commercials.

evening girls -

still haven't read anything, so hoping everyone is doing well.
I did watch some of the SuperBowl, and definitely watched the
half time show...although I think she's fabulous, I really couldn't
understand anything she said (except of course the older song tunes).
But it was a great floor show just the same. I actually think she
looks better now than before she had the baby. Kudos to her.

Anyway, here are the two pages I've done yesterday and today.

This one is for Monica's challenge - loved doing this hand stitching around an element and will definitely do this again! Thanks Monica for such a great technique.

You Are ...

And here is one for a song challenge:

The Bottle that you Drink

Well, I've got to go throw more laundry in, get stuff ready for tomorrow and get to bed.

Have a wonderful dreamy night.

Gone since Friday so now I'm even farther behind - and had to find the new thread! Bought some really cool stuff for the store at the auction today. Can't wait to dig into it and get it marked. If get our store FB updates I'll put some pictures up this week. SO much to do. Still don't have last week's auction stuff all priced. Piano lessons tomorrow and Tuesday - starting the older students on recital songs. Meetings Monday night and Tues. Stuff to pick up with trailer on Wed. or Thurs. ....I have a feeling that February is going to fly by.
Got a new carpet shampoo machine in December. Finally got it out of the box last week. Would like to give it a go in some inconspicuous spot this week to try it out. My carpets really need it. Previous owner picked out light color and it has been a challenge.
Well, that is all my non-scrappy news for now. I did some kitty pages last week will have to get those scanned.
Question: The recipes from last year - are we still able to add to them or is the book being readied for those who would like to order a finished copy?

Take Care all!
