Hello Everyone!

Jodi - I sure hope your shoulder pain turns out to be not serious. Glad you are seeing someone about it.

Theresa - I really liked the tutorial about the wiper card. They are very cute cards! I don't think I'll be making any soon, I don't have all the tools. But thanks for telling me about them! I hope you are feeling better today.

Toni - I hope your Internet gets fixed soon!

Hi Melissa - please tell us a bit about yourself!

Michelle - you don't HAVE to set the timer for 15 minutes! That's only a suggestion. You can set it for any length of time you want. The object of the timer is to make it easier to do unpleasant tasks, such as sorting through paperwork. You can do anything if you only have to do it for 15 minutes!

Tina - I hope you are feeling better today. My first car was a Camaro, which is probably why my brain went there when I saw 'cameo.' I did LOVE that car! The Murano looks like a nice car and ANY new car is pretty nice!

Tammy - I think about 'hobbies' a lot too. I have always enjoyed my hobbies so much, it's a shame that more people don't have a hobby. I think that if everyone found a hobby that they enjoyed, there would be a lot less crime and bullying and other nastiness in the world. I agree, the Internet has probably taken over where many more creative hobbies should be, but on the other hand, you can learn SO MUCH about any hobby you want, by going online and joining internet groups like this one. I know most of you don't understand how someone could love pet rats, but believe me, there is a HUGE, world-wide internet community dedicated to pet rats. Just one group I'm in has many thousands of followers from all over the planet. My whole life has been turned around by this close-knit, rat-loving community! And now I'm finding another community, dealing with my latest hobby, scrapping. If I didn't have the Internet, I might not have ever gotten started in scrapping at all.

On the other hand, if I didn't spend so much time online, I might have had the time to start scrapping YEARS ago!

Debi - they skied OVER your car? Wow. Would that have been in 1994? That's the snowiest winter I remember... It's a shame that you don't have more 'crafty' friends living nearby, but if you want to host a 'Girls Night' it doesn't have to be about crafts. Mark goes out of town for work occasioinally and sometimes I host a 'Girl's Night at the Movies.' We own hundreds of DVDs, so I invite a few friends over to visit and watch a movie. I supply the snacks and I usually pick out 3 movies, they pick the one they want to watch. We visit, snack, watch and have a very good time!

BTW - Did you ever find the bow tie?

I did go shopping (again!) at Michael's and bought frames for the pages I'm making for my friend. I also bought more paper! I have way more paper now than I can actually LIFT, I won't be able to take it all with me when I go to crops. Even with a rolling tote, I have to be able to lift it in and out of the car! Of course, I could buy a THIRD tote... Help! I'm out of control!!

OK, now that my wrist is feeling a bit better, I MUST get some housework done. Then I can go play and make some pages!

Have a great day!

CATHY I'd be dating myself but it was the winter of 1973 of 1974. Lots of roofs caving in. I even had a icicle puncture my car's gas tank but that's a story for another time. LOL

I don't have a very good TV (old analog style 31 incher) and it's in the boys' room so a movie night at my house would be rather dull. I used to host monthly potlucks and that was fun, but after my divorce friends divided and with the responsibility of the boys full-time I stopped having social events at my house. Might be time to find a way to bring socialization back into my life now that the boys are older, though.

Growing up on a farm, my parents often had friends over for card playing and we played tons of cards within the family. That was a fun way to hang out too. Used to play pinocle and bridge and occassionally hearts for those not familiar with the former 2 games.

Bottom line is I have more "imaginary friends" currently than IRL friends. I realise with the boys growing up, I need to start building my own life or I'm going to be awfully lonely. I don't even have a cat to keep me company. LOL we have 2 fish, but they are pretty boring.

Hung out with the boys all day at their band competition and workshop. It was very interesting but I'm tired. Need to fix some dinner and then rest for tomorrow. The meds are working but they need to build up some before I'll have all my energy back.

You don't have to take ALL your paper to a crop. You can preselect (some make page kits) before going. I never took more than one crop tote albeit a fairly large one. Fun that you do have crops to go to.

So where is everyone else?

Debi- with people skiing over your car and icicles puncturing it, it's a good thing you don't live where they have loads of snow!

As for not taking ALL my paper to a crop - of course, that would be ths sane way to do it, but what if I got there and discovered that I NEEDED some paper that I didn't bring? I can't let that happen! LOL!

I never did get to crop today, but at least I was able to do quite a bit of housework. I do love taking care of my house but one of the reasons I don't mind housework is that I can do it when I feel like it. However, if enough time goes by between 'feeling' like it, then it can get a bit messy. This is much more likely to happen in the summer, when it's hot and muggy. If it starts to bother me but I still can't summon the energy to clean, I invite some people over. When I have company coming, I'd have to be near DEATH to not clean the house!

Yes, where is everyone today?

I have to go to bed really early because tomorrow morning I am driving Mark to have Lasik surgery done on one eye (the other wil be done in 3 weeks). We have to leave here by 8 AM, WAY to early for me! So I guess I should take care of the rats and get to bed. G'night!

hello!
I had a fun weekend - my cousin picked me up Saturday & we goofed around for a while. We went to the casino (LOL - I've only been to casinos first when I turned 21 and then a couple times with my dad). Made me think of you, Debi!! My cousin made me play some of the table games, but I was soooo nervous because they are super picky about how you do things. I got my hand slapped a couple of times! Anyway, my cousin gave me $20 when we went in there, I left with $50, so gave her the $20 back and ended up with $30 in my pocket

Let's see... had a slumber party with the cousins Saturday night, then had them over for a teeny Super Bowl party on Sunday. We had fun!

Today, I got my hair cut. I am getting a little bit tired of the curly & longer look, so I told her I wanted it trimmed a "little." Well, it's SHORT! In the back anyway - she did a wedge (Tammy informed that's what it is called ) - super short in the back, then tapered & longer in the front. Hopefully when I wash & style it my way tomorrow, I will like it better!

Found out one of my great uncles passed away a few days ago. The wake was tonight, and service is at Leavenworth National Cemetery on Wednesday. I'm trying to convince my mom to go because it's really beautiful out there, and I love military services. Really sad - we didn't even know he was sick (in fact, his sons said it came on really fast & they were shocked). Even more sad to think that there are only TWO left in my grandma's generation on her side of the family.

okay, I'm rambling! And it's late, so I better read the chatter tomorrow! Night all.

Monica, sorry about your great uncle. Hurray for winning at the casino and more than that, glad you had a good time.

No time to chat, today's Doc's birthday so I'm taking my pulled bbq pork and I have to run some by Joyce's before I head to Owensboro.

Have a great day and here is a challenge for you all for today:

Look for something positive that happens today and focus on it. Don't have to scrap it but it might just make a great page and it WILL change your outlook on your life.

Happy February everyone! I can't believe it's a new month. We've had a very busy weekend. The girls had a half day of school on Friday and Alison went home with a classmate and spent the night. My hubby treated Jordyne and me to dinner for my birthday, we hadn't eaten out (at a restraunt) in so long it was a nice treat. Saturday was major crazy I dropped Toby off at work at 7:30 am, Alison had Altar Server training at church at 9am and then we had our girl scout cookie carnival at 10am and Jordyne had a birthday party at 1:30. I didn't get back home until 5pm and my poor husband had to walk from work down Las Vegas Blvd toward where the party was because it ran 1/2 hour late and I couldn't pick him up on time. Sunday was Scout Sunday at our church so the girls had to be there at 9:30am. I need a weekend to recover from my weekend. I was hoping to get some scrapping done as I treated myself to a trip to the scrapbook store. Maybe later this week.

Debi So glad you got your medicine and are feeling better. Glad the boys had fun sleepovers.

Theresa Hope your are feeling better. The crazy weather you have can't be helping any.

Melanie February is going to fly if you stay as busy as you are this week. I'm tired just reading what you have to do. I love my carpet shampooer, it feels so nice to be able to get the carpets cleaned whenever the mood strikes.

Toni Internet issues are such a pain. Glad to see you are still getting a lot of scrapping done.

Tina Hope you are feeling better. Congratulations on the new cameo and new car. I love my cameo and can hardly scrap without it.

Jodi Hope you get your shoulder other pain figured out.

Cathy I love reading your organizing tips. I'm an organizing junkie, I love to spend hours reading about it and getting ideas, not that you could tell by looking my house . Although it is starting to come together. I'm also a FlyLady fan but since I haven't been working find it harder to stick to my routines. I tend to fall into the I have all day or there's always tomorrow to get it done mentality.

I've got to run time to head to my church group. Hi to everyone else, Diana, Barbara, Nylene, Maribeth, Michelle and anyone else I missed. That's what I get for staying away so long no time to chat with everyone but I do think about you.

Today is Tuesday. Good Morning Peas. Hope everyone is fine today.

My kids didn't set their alarm again. Seems like this happens about once/week so need to get on learning this little trick if they are going to be independent. Of course that made us get up late. I did manage to pack lunches but had to drive them to school to make it by bell time.

MONICA B hooray for walking away with money from the casino. I don't really play table games (a long time ago I used to play roulette and I've played versions of blackjack occassionally but the fact you have to bid higher for those games keeps me away since I never start with much seed money). Had to laugh at getting your hands slapped, but yes, there is protocol to how you place bets etc.

Sorry to hear about your great-uncle passing.

THERESA you have to be one of the kindest most thoughtful people I know. You are always doing stuff for people. Pulled pork for birthday for Doc-how yummy.

THERESA I will take you up on your DAILY CHALLENGE to focus on ONE POSITIVE THING that happens today. good challenge.

VALERIE

I need a weekend to recover from my weekend.

I agree. This last weekend took a lot out of me especially added the all-day band fieldtrip yesterday. But hey, I'd rather be busy than bored.

Today is Tuesday. Nothing huge planned. There's an interesting presentation on teens and risky behavior at school tonight but I won't be able to attend because it happens in the middle of my commute to pick up the boys from their dad's. Oh well.

I think I'll scrap a page before starting my day, besides sitting with the throw over my shoulders feels too good to get up right now...

Have a HAPPY, SCRAPPY day.

Sorry, all!
I have been trying to get over here to chat for two days but my son is sick again!
After a trip to the doctor's to be told of course it is another virus, I am home.
But now I have a list to get caught up on of things to do around here.
Hopefully he will be well enough to go to school tomorrow and I can catch up on posts and praising layouts in the next day or so.
Wish me luck on that!

MARY JO sorry your ds is sick. Never a good thing to have sick kids at home.

I finished my LO. Actually it's a 2 pager using no product...just photos. So you wouldn't think it would have taken me so long to put it together but with doing extractions(taking away the background digitally--here's where scissors work nicely on a printed photo) it took awhile. Hope you like it.

Daniel is probably coming in this weekend I hope he gets to come.

I don't remember much of what I read, guess I start here and catch up with everyone.

MonicaB. Sorry about your uncle. Prayers to you and your family.

Cathy..I love all the organizational tips.

Tina..Praying that you feel 100% soon.

Have a great day..need to finish up here at work.

DIANA I still have Christmas boxes sitting in my Living Room to be dragged downstairs...LOL Managed to celebrate the boys' birthday last weekend despite having remnants of Christmas still hanging out. They didn't care.

2 more LOs from me. Guess you can guess what I've been doing today to avoid housework. LOL

This is frustrating me! I am typing out part of this for the fifth time now! It keeps getting erased. First two times, I had all kinds of replies to what the rest of you posted. Second two times, I was just trying to add my own two layouts. Guess I will add them one at a time now.

For the Bookmarks Challenge:
Baby Boy

It's a lift of this one by Kathiel. I have exactly enough layouts in the category "baby layouts" that the very first one I categorized that way is now second page, second layout. That was several years before I became a grandmother, so I must have been scrapping baby photos of my SKs then.

For the color challenge: (And later in the week I think it was as cold and "white" as the inspiration picture)

Swing!

Here's one more. I didn't do this one for any Chatty Scrappers challenges, it is a shameless lift of Blue Star Designs the week she hosted "Seeing Double." I had the card up in time, and posted it, so it's already got some love, but I think you are the only ones who will see the layout since I just added it to the card.

hey girls -

this week has been awful, and it's just the beginning...
yesterday at school we had a bomb scare...one of those prank phone calls...well, two and a half hours later we're back in class and lost
most of the day, and the rest of the day was spent with worried parents picking up their kids, so not much teaching getting done. it was exhausting. Thankfully, all our kids did wonderful!

And, today, well, I won't go into it, but not good. My DD ... ugh.
I'll stop there. Hopefully she'll learn a lesson from this, although
it will hurt her forever...sigh. I really don't know why kids do the
stupid things they do.

I took tomorrow off to get some personal things done, like our taxes, so it's a good thing anyway. Now, I just have more errands to run than before

I am numb but have soooo many things to do. Was hoping to scrap tonight but now I don't know. We'll see. I need to iron too, but my energy is zapped.

We did have a really great magic show that is really a bully show. It was just fantastic! A world class sleight-of-hand magician with some real simple ways to boggle your mind! Amazing. The kids loved it. Of course the ending with the talk about the alcohol, drugs, smoking, and bullying just adds to it.

Wishing you all well.

ELLEN I understand the frustration of 2peas wiping out your message mid-stream. I've taken to opening NOTEPAD and typing my response in it, then when I'm done, copy and paste it to 2peas. That way if 2peas is wonky, I still have my response that I can repost. Does that make sense? I hate losing stuff especially when I've taken the time to respond to individual posts. HTH

TONI I don't understand why people do things like call in a bomb scare. Sorry it upset your whole day but glad it was just a hoax.
Not sure WHAT your dd did, but kids do stupid things because they are immature and don't have a broad world perspective--they don't often look beyond the moment to see how their actions might affect theirs or other's future. Sorry she stumbled.

I'm bored. Kids are home for another 1 1/2 before heading off to their dad's and I don't want to do anything...not even scrap. They are watching reruns of LOST on NETFLIXs. Maybe I should organize some of my digital supply files that need to be opened and tagged...hmmm doesn't sound too exciting does it?

Where are all my imaginary friends? I want someone to chat with.

Evening, the pork was a big hit. One gal brought chips, no one else brought anything but it was fine.

Seems that both Doctors have vacation time they either use up soon or they loose so they're both scheduling days off. BabyDoc is taking the rest of the week off and since tomorrow is Doc's surgery day, we won't have any patients so I'm staying home! That's my positive for today!!!

ELLEN I just had what you described happen to me...post just up and disappeared. I did it directly into the thread as I had little to say and "POOF" vanished...frustrating. wonder where it goes...

THERESA enoy your day off tomorrow. That is a positive. Glad everyone enjoyed the pulled pork; I've been craving it ever since you mentioned it this morning.

I did 5 LOs today so will take that as my positive.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO VALERIE!

I apologize for missing it. Please let me know when it was, so I can add it to the b-day lists.

According to the RAK list I have, we have no birthdays in February. Those of you who were not included on Jan's list a year or so ago need to email their b-days to me so I can announce it for everyone. I don't want to miss Chatty Scrappers, but I need you to peamail the dates to me.
Thank you!

Weird about the posts disappearing! I think Two Peas is spazzing out again - there are several posts on the MB about odd things happening.

If you guys would like, I can make an updated RAK list for the group. Now that we are well into the new year, I'd say we are good to add the new faces and take off some of those who haven't been around for a few years.

I finished a layout today - took me a long time to do, all sorts of time-consuming things on it! I'll post it tomorrow.

Good night!

Happy belated birthday Valerie!

Monica I think an updated list sounds great.

Going to tackle taking down the wallpaper border and painting the living room today on my "day off." It will not be a one day job by any means. Way too much furniture in way to small of a house so I can't move stuff out. I'll have to do one wall at a time and move stuff into the middle of the room. Embarrassed to admit, haven't done anything to this room in almost 20 years. It is a sand colored wall and actually still looks pretty good but the wallpaper border definitely dates it. Going to go trendy and paint it gray. I'm going to do a before after layout so you can see the results.

I know wall paper trim is dating, but I still like it. Ihave it in a hallway and I probably should take it down too but alas it's still there. I figure it's an old house (1924) so anything goes ritht? Sounds like a big project THERESa--good luck with that.

Trying to wake up still. A bit groggy this morning as are the boys. Not sure why, but neither of us is moving too quickly this morning.

Gotta start a fire under Owen.

Off to fix lunches.

Good morning, the cat's away so I think I will play just a bit this morning, I woke up with a sinus headache and it's driving me nuts.

Theresa...I need to take down the border on Daniel's walls it's still sports related, that we did 11 years ago maybe I'll get him to do it next time he comes down, I really want to paint that room and make it look nice for guess also. Can't wait for the before and after.

Monica...Yes please do update the list thank you. Monica I'm sure the hair cut looks great, I wish I had the nerve to do that, I have always loved that look. Stan my just leave me if I get it cut that sure.

Valerie...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Hope you have a great one I got tired just by reading your post. Busy weekend you had.

Debi...5 WOW!!! I did 3 but they were easy 8 x 8 paper. I'm trying to scrap the old Disney pictures. I need to scrap them fast and easy and get them in books organized. This year I'm organizing the entire house one room at a time. DH better be on board or you know where I'm organizing him to. What a Pack Rat!!!

Toni.. That Megan! This just don't think, then when they are 21 they say I should of listen to you mom. Well hope it will all turn out ok. Hope you can at least have a little time for yourself you need it my friend.

Ellen...That has also happened to me more times that I care to remember, for a long time I would write the post on a word doc then copy and paste here. Is very frustrating.

Mary Jo..Hope your DS is doing better today.

Cathy...How did you get your hubby to get rid of stuff? I need to get mine to just let go of papers from companies he worked at 30 years ago that are not even in business any longer. Polo shirts for golf he must have over 50 of them. HELP!!! how did you do it?

Okay then, going to try get some work for these men. Then I'll stop by again. Have a great day

Good morning- posting real quick to mark my praisemarker. Still working on tax stuff- why do I wait all year to do the legwork?? TOday a couple of girlsfriends I are going to sushi for a belated bday celebration and I have a haircut appt.

Monica- do you like your hair better now? where's the pix?? Sorry about your uncle- are you guys going to the service? I think a new RAK list would be awesome- there are a lot of girls who haven't been here in years on it.

Theresa- good luck on the project. My house has been virtually the same since we moved here. I just don't have that decorator gene like others seem to to change things around. We were saying yesterday, when Gary gets work again we need to purchase a new couch set.

I know there was more, but I need to wake up the kids. Have a great Wednesday everyone~

Morning ladies!
I am going to try this on the word doc today, to see if that makes it easier.

Toni – I hope the rest of your week is better. When I was a junior in high school, some prankster used to call in bomb threats at the end of lunch period about once a week in the spring months. So we’d have to mull about on the football field for most of fifth period, maybe part of sixth, while the campus staff (and city police?) checked out each room. Then we went back to class. It was great fun for us, but back in those days they didn’t see the need to tell parents about it. Interesting to see the perspective the adults might have had.

Theresa – The pulled pork and chips sounds yummy. Hope your wallpapering project goes well. I have never attempted something like that.
Debi – If a house here was built in 1924, the preservation police might come around saying “you must use historical colors/wallpapers!” Most likely a house of that age anywhere near me would have been built in the Frank Lloyd Wright “craftsman bungalow” style.
Valerie – Happy Birthday. Nylene, I am going to go ahead and peamail you my birthday.

Yes, the word doc made it 1,000 times easier! Now, when I get some more layouts posted, we will see about linking them. I haven't even done any layouts since finishing the Swing one day before yesterday though.

The only problem with using the word program is it adding all the funky characters.

Well, one wall has the border down. I have a wallpaper steamer or I don't think it would have budged. Good and bad thing about it is it runs water down the wall as it's steaming so I'm also getting it washed down at the same time, of course that means more muscle work. I'm pooped and I've just done one wall, LOL!

The pulled pork is super easy. Take a pork tenderloin and put it in the crock pot. Cover it totally with root beer (yes root beer) and cook it on low for 8 hours. Pour off the liquid and then just pull the pork apart with two forks. Add barbeque sauce (or don't my aunt likes it better without any) and you're done.

I'll get to work on the new RAK list today!

If you would like to be added to the RAK list, or need to update your information, send me a peamail! Include any of the following you would like to share:
-Name (first + last)
-Address
-Home Phone
-Cell Phone + Carrier
-Birthday
-Email address

The RAK list is basically just a contact list, in case you want to send out cards to the Chatty Scrappers or a special RAK or just need to get in contact with anyone!
-----------

**Happy birthday, Valerie!**

Theresa- I've only had one experience with taking down wallpaper, and it was a nightmare! Luckily yours is only a border. You should post pics when it is done!

Diana- Bummer about your sinus headache. I have had chronic sinus problems the last few months. It's driving me insane. Hope you have fun scrapping still! Oh, and I don't know if *I* would have had the nerve to cut my hair this short, except that she just did it! But I'm starting to like it.

Tammy- Yuck on the tax stuff! I need to do mine, but between living in 2 houses right now, I've lost one of my W2's I used to always wonder how people lost a piece of paperwork like that, and here I am now losing it! Yes, I like my hair much better now - it's still hard to get used to, though! I tried to take a pic yesterday, but for the life of me couldn't get a pic of the back, even in the mirror. I waited all day for my mom to get here so she could take a pic, and she didn't get home til late. So today I will take & post a pic!

We aren't going to my uncle's service today after all. I'm bummed I really wanted to go, but my mom had to take care of some other things. Plus, she's been driving a lot because of having to take Evan to work... and Leavenworth is a bit of a drive.

MONICA B sorry you won't be able to attend your great uncle's service.
Thanks for updating the RAK list. oops just remembered I forgot to send my email...I'll go back and update.

THERESA I've tried that pulled pork in the crock pot. It's good. Will it work with beef roast as well? Or maybe even chicken?

Ok FLYLADY's february challenge is to do a minimum of 15 minutes of decluttering (donate, thrash, or put away) an area a day. WHo's willing to take that challenge? I so need to get rid of stuff. I think it grows when I'm not looking.

Frank Lloyd Wright's designs don't have the same draw to me as the old craftman style homes with trim everywhere. But no 1924 isn't considered historic here---YET.And the sad thing is if you want to sell your home, you have to go and paint every room light beige or white and take out the custom colors...I like my red living room, yellow dining room, green kitchen....

If you don't have time to scrap today, then go to the gallery and leave some love...at least click the little heart in the upper left corner on 5 LOs you like something about them. If you can, leave some praise. Everyone loves to be noticed. AND you don't have to LOVE everything in a LO to find something you like (color scheme, pattern paper use, journaling, photos, design, ...)

Ok I'm off to find some food before the boys get home in an hour. Early release day.

Debi

Hi there!

Debi, Diana - I beat you! My Christmas tree is still up! The decorations have been taken down but the actual tree is so big and heavy Heinrich has to do it. I've asked about 100 times, but there it still stands in the corner of the lounge... Maybe I should decorate it for Valentine's day and he'll get the message?

Happy Birthday, Valerie! Sounds like you had a super busy weekend but glad everyoone seemed to enjoy it.

Monica - The new hairdo sounds fun. We need to see those pics And winning at a casino? Just the best! Spoil yourself a bit.

Cathy - Lol, I wouldn't even attempt to take all my paper anywhere. I couldn't lift half of it if I tried. Yeah, after scrapping for a few years, it grows (multiplies in the dark, it seems)Yet I don't have much if you listen to some people that purge 2-3 FEET of paper! Heehee, I meant I couldn't limit myself to a time when doing a task, not necessarily 15min. I tend to get very focused and obsessed, to the exclusion of all else.

Debi - I'm like you at the moment too. We don't entertain at home a lot (at all) and have only one really good friend that I see about once a month. I've been realising how isolated I actually am recently and also want to make that a goal this year. More socialising.

Ellen - Ugh, I hate it when a post just disappears. And it always happens when you have typed out a lot of text

Off to bed (it's after 11 here) Need my beauty sleep for the full day of work ahead. Hope everyone that is feeling under the weather feels better soon.

Hello Ladies!

What a whirlwind! Lanie's party turned out perfect. She had 12 friends over for her Art Party. We did 3 projects, had an impromptu dance party and played some games outside (trying to tire them out). Only 1 one the parents stayed and she got some great photos, so I need to upload them and get them printed so I can scrap something recent!

Watched the Super Bowl on Sunday and was a bit disappointed that the 49ers lost, but it's just a game and doesn't affect me or my family. Was really hoping for a Patriot, Niner game, as I am a Patriots fan and Rick is a Niner fan.

Working really cuts into my me time! Hoping to get some more housework done today, so I will have some free time tomorrow to scrap.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

I think I'm cursed when it comes to dealing with agencies...WARNING VENT ABOUT TO HAPPEN skip if you don't want to read it.

You remember my DSHS Medicaid visit (3 hrs to be told in seconds I don't qualify but have to wait 30 days to get a denial)...well I got the letter, only it's not a denial, it's a request for me to turn in all the supporting financial documentation (which I had done just 2 weeks prior and which I had with me when I went in the last time but she didn't want it, after filling out their lengthy application once again) AND that I have to have an interview (which I thought I did on the 1/22nd when I got the verbal denial). This is frustrating and aggravating to say the least.

Then I had a cellphone and a monthly family plan. My cell stopped working, wouldn't recharge the battery but I kept paying the monthly plan and bought a new cell phone. Called (2 hrs) to transfer the number from the old one to the new one. Told I had to wait up to 2 days for it to process. Well it's been 10 days and it still doesn't work. SO called again (another hour), was told I have to wait up to 2 days more for it to be processed and if it doesn't work, then I have to call back and they will send a new SIM card to replace the one in my new phone and start over. Meanwhile I've paid for 2 weeks of time and I can't use the phone. Does that seem right? Grrr.

So I'm feeling a bit grumpy right now. I just want this stuff to be handled. Is that too much to ask? Does it seem right that I have to go in 3 times (12 hours of waiting) and redo my application to renew foodstamps each time, before finally getting it renewed(and this was just a renewal not an actual application) and now I'm on my second trip (already 3 hrs in waiting) to be turned down for Medicaid so I can hopefully be authorized for charity care at the doctor's office although I've already gone past their 14 day limit to apply because they need the medicaid denial in writing. I could scream. Why are governmental offices so inefficient and redundant? Besides being rude to their clients? I think they want to discourage people from applying by making it so unpleasant. Geesh. After all these years when my financial situation allowed me to donate generously to various charities and give money to utilities programs to help those in need, etc, you'd think when I found myself in need of some of these services I could expect respectful treatment. Financial standing does not make a person. Everyone deserves to be treated with courtesy, respect and efficiency.

ok vent over

I've been trying to call Mom. I call her everyday. But her phone has been busy for hours; I suspect it is off the hook. I called her neighbor to have them go check on her, but they didn't answser the phone so had to leave a message. I don't like it when I can't reach my Mom because I don't know if she is ok or if something could be wrong (she is 81 after all). SO here's hoping the neighbor gets my message and walks over to her house, and that it's just the phone off the hook.

It's dinner time. It's dark. Feels really late but isn't. ANy good ideas for dinner?

Debi, sorry about your day!

Got all the border down and the walls washed down, holes spackled and went to Evansville with Randy. Will start painting Saturday after the Pinewood Derby. Had a great dinner at Texas Roadhouse and found ONE of the two lamps I wanted (because as you all know when you change one thing you end up having to change a ton more--yet another reason NOT to change things). Leaving the tag on just in case I can't get another one to match at the local Wal-Mart, also will have to find new lamp shades because, of course, the ones on the current lamps won't work.

Randy and I have decided we're actually going to take a vacation for Spring Break and we're thinking California. We've tossed around the idea of trying to get tickets to The Big Bang Theory and they are shooting the week we're off. Going to check out airline/hotel prices and then go from there.

Okay, bored you enough, going to bed soon, I'm pooped!

THERESA Sounds like you made great progress on your room. I'm jealous. I need to do the boys' room (afterall it's peach) but hey we've been living with it for 9 years, guess a few more months isn't going to do any damage. LOL

Funny you NEEDED to buy new lamps. Hope you find the matching one.

MONICA B I LOVE your new haircut. Looks easy to care for and very becoming. Bet it feels odd being so short though. You'll get used to it and then wonder why you didn't do it earlier.

OK we had cocktail shrimp with dipping sauce, fresh grapes, strawberries and raspberries, and cottage cheese for dinner. How's that for an unusual dinner for winter? Makes a good summer one though. Still tasted good and no prep per se, so fit the bill.

Kids are back to watching episodes of LOST and I'm waiting for my soap to come on (have to wait til 9 p.m PST).

Got a hold of my mom, finally. She had the phone off the cradle which should not have caused it to be busy as it's a remote phone, but seems when she put it back on when she was heading to bed (she goes really early and watches tv in her room) it reconnected. So I got to talk to her and reassure myself she was ok. Of course, she didn't understand why I'd be worried that I couldn't get a hold of her for hours on end--LOL Somehow I think we've switched roles (I worry about her more than she does me now).

Got to take my 2nd dose of meds this evening, so hoping I notice even more relief tomorrow. Maybe I'll have the energy to take on that dang DSHS.

And for those that read my vent, it's been several hours and NOPE my cellphone still isn't working. I don't have a good feeling about it.

Well I have 15 more mintues, so might as well continue unzipping and tagging files. Then it's soap time and bed time for all.

Hello ladies,

It seems like so long since I've written. I was trying to 'lurk' over the weekend so I could keep up with how everyone was doing. I just didn't have time to sit & write.

Stuart got sick on Sunday. He started feeling poorly during the Super Bowl and by Monday morning he was in baaaaaad shape. He seems to be all better now, thankfully.

MONICA -- I didn't realize you didn't like the hair cut. I think it's ADORABLE. I hope you're liking it more. So sorry to hear about your (great?) Uncle. Hugs.

A new RAK list would be great. Do you have last years? Please do include me on the list and send me the updated copy. Thanks for doing that!

DEBI -- I grew up playing cards also! I soooooooooo miss sitting around playing cards and chatting. I will do the FLYLADY challenge. I didn't know it was a challenge, but I actually started already. I went through all of Charlotte's clothing and removed everything from her room that did not fit. By the end of the week, her room will be all organized again. Next week: Julia's room.

Does the fact that you have NOT been denied Medicaid mean you won't have your meds subsidized any more?! I hope not!

TONI -- So sorry to hear you're having a bad week. I can not even imagine the fear of a bomb scare. I am so glad that it was not a real threat. As for your DD...have faith in yourself & your parenting. It's a little too soon for it to show, but eventually all the things you taught her will kick in and she'll be the young woman you raised her to be. Some of us take longer to get there. I know I did.

CATHY -- How did hubby's eye surgery go? I hope he's recovering well. I had to laugh about your comment about being near death to not clean before visitors come. I am the same way. With two young 'uns I've taught myself to be OK with the fact that house is not perfect when I go to bed (and, therefore, when I wake up). But when people are coming I still have to clean!!

MELANIE -- hi there! good to see you. How did the carpets turn out?

THERESA -- I loved your challenge. I had my hair done on Monday. I know that doesn't sound like a big deal, but it had been a while since I had my gray covered. and my hair desperately needed to be cut. And doesn't everyone love having someone wash their hair for them?? I once read that you should think of/write down FIVE things you are grateful for every day. It's like your bed time prayers but without the 'asking for things' part. I've done it sporadically and I think it makes a big difference in my daily attitude (if you know what I mean!! )

Are you going to Southern CA?! If not, I can recommend the Monterey Bay Area...or SF Bay Area. Do please let me know where you'll be. I'd love to meet up with you.

Did you have a good day off? What an unexpected treat!

MARY JO -- It sounds like your house is having a touch winter!! They say these flu viruses are at epidemic levels this year. I hope DS is feeling better!!

DIANA -- My Christmas boxes are still down & all over the garage. I keep reminding DH but until I get angry, I'm sure they'll sit there...in the way. I don't understand how he can find time for video games but not take the 10 minutes to put the stupid boxes away!! I try to let it go. I hope your sinuses are better today.

VAL -- so sorry to have missed it but HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!! Hope it was a great one.

OK, this is getting REALLY long. (Imagine how PO'd I'll be if this post disappears!! )

I've done a bunch of LOs but not photographed so I'll post later.

Sleep well. (Or have a good day, MICHELLE!!)

BARBARA in answer to your question concerning being disqualified for Medicaid...without the denial letter I can't get my meds after 3 months and I can't qualify for coverage at the Doctor's office, so I NEED that dang denial letter. And in a timely manner. Oy!

Good for you for decluttering your dd's room. I still have so much to do. At 15 minutes a day, it may take awhile.

Well my soap is over and I'm off to bed.

morning girls -

Again, just running by...

But before I move on...

HAPPY (Belated) BIRTHDAY, VALERIE! I hope it was a good one

Monica B - Love the haircut, girl! Short and sassy

Theresa - love the Big Bang Theory! That would be soooo fun to see.

Anyway, just wanted to run by. I said I would work tonight at J's since someone called out and they would be short. So won't get much done today either. Got our taxes done and died my hair yesterday, thank goodness.

Have a super de duper day.

Morning all. Supposed to be in the mid 60's here today, Randy is hoping to play golf. Rain coming back in tonight and chance of snow flurries tomorrow morning. No wonder everyone is staying ill.

Have to work today, go to a nurse forum at lunch (they'll pay me and feed me but it'll be a boring 2 hours I'm sure) and then work half day tomorrow. I could get used to this taking a day off in the middle of the week, except every muscle in my body hurts today from all the stuff yesterday, LOL.

Monica, my address is the same so no need to change anything from mine. Thanks again for doing the list.

Barb, I've never been to California so I'm not sure exactly what area we want to see but I know that Burbank is where The Big Bang Theory is taped. Not sure what is close to that or if we need to stay somewhere else and drive there. Going to have to do a little bit of research by the end of this month (when I can get tickets). We'll be traveling the last week of March.

Debi, I hate that you can't get your meds without a denial but maybe they'll GIVE you medicaid and then you can get not only your meds but a lot of other care as well. Just hope they decide soon.

And Yes I have to get new lamps. The ones I have are gold based crystal looking lights. Since I'm painting the room gray they are going to really scream 80's. I did just buy spray paint and am going to try to update my door handles with it instead of buying new ones (saw it on Pinterest).

Best hit the shower. Who knows what I'll find waiting for me when I get there.

Good morning all.

I am procrastinating about doing my '15 minutes'!!

I keep meaning to tell you ladies that my soon-to-be niece/cousin sent me a message on Facebook apologizing for how she responded to the invitations I made. It was very, VERY sweet of her and I am very impressed with what she said.

I feel so much better after that. It's nice to know she understands what it took to make those things, and that she cared that we are "ok" between us. It doesn't help with my guilt over disappointing a bride, but that's mine to live with. I'll be fine.

OK, time to start this day!!

Have a great day!

THERESA I can imagine how sore you are after all that physical exertion yesterday. I'd be bed-ridden if I tried that. I hope you are taking before-in process-after photos for those of us who want to see.

BARBARA had to laugh when you said you are procrastinating doing your 15 minutes...me too, but it'll happen.

Called DSHS first thing this morning and told her my story. She acknowledged that I do not qualify for:
---MEDICAID (because I have dependent children)
---Aged, Blind or Disabled Cash Assistance of $197/month (because I have more than $700 in income, unfortunately just barely) nor
---Disability (because I have more than $3K in resources (I still have a small amount in my IRA which I'm rapidly using up).
But she did agree I don't need to send any supplemental financial documents in, as it's clear I don't qualify for any help, and that I had already done the interview so she is sending my DENIAL LETTERS soon (not sure "how soon".

So it leaves me wondering how a family of 3 is supposed to survive on $700/month or less...I don't know anywhere we could rent for that small amount let alone pay utilities, etc. Wish I could get my health issues under control so I can work.

So until then I need to find ways to create some income or reduce obligations. Sure makes winning the lottery sound good...but I don't play. Did your read where a couple bought 2 tickets on the same day from the same store and won $1,500,000; both tickets were winners. Amazing.

Off to declutter.

Hi!

Sherri - so glad Lanie's party went off without a hitch. And how nice to have another mom taking photos. I always find I'm so busy hosting I don't get to take great pics.

Debi- Sounds like gov departments are the same no matter where you live. Thank goodness you finally got someone who seems to realise doing all the paperwork again is just a waste of time as you don't qualify anyway. How they calculate the minimum amounts people are supposed to live off is another matter.

Theresa - Haha - that is so true - change one thing and everything needs to change. I bought a new headboard for our bed a few years ago and it didn't stop till I'd changed the base and curtains too, lol.

Monica - The 'new hair' looks awesome. So cute! you'll grow to love it, I'm sure.

Barbara - Ugh, hope Start is feeling better - you don't need 3 kids in the house.

Right, off to have supper. Heinrich made roast chicken and I'm starved after only having a Snickers bar for lunch. (Like a Mars bar with nuts if you don't have Snickers there)

Have a great day further!

LOL MICHELLE I think we're more familiar with SNICKERS than MARS bars as the latter is much more difficult to find. Although I think MARS bars are similiar if not the same as MILKY WAY bars--choc,caramel, no nuts.

Roasted chicken sounds good. Of course, right now everything sounds good. Guess I'm hungry.

Here's the LO I was working on last night. Of course my laptop decided to reboot mid-way so had to re-create part of it. Computers are evil, I tell you.

Hi Everyone!

I feel like I'm about to right a novel - a long one! But to keep up with everyone, that's what it might take!

Monica - so sorry about your great uncle. I love your haircut, especially in the back, the layers are sassy!

To all of you - I'm so glad you like the organizing tips. I'll keep them coming - and please add any tips that YOU might have!

Valerie - having routines does make it easier to get things done. There's an old saying "If you need something done, ask the busiest person you know." Because that person gets things done! Someone with a lot of time on her hands might not be as ... motivated.

Toni - has your week gotten any better? I sure hope so.

Debi - your situation with bureaucracy is just plain tragic. I don't even know what to say, it's so horrible.

You said you were bored and wanted someone to chat with. How is that done? I love email and I'm online a lot... I haven't figured out peamail yet - how do I do that? I'd like to be added to the RAK list. (What does that stand for?) I posted my email and here it is again, should anyone like to email me privately. pharohel @ aol.com Just take out the spaces.

Theresa - I totally agree, sometimes you just NEED a new lamp! Especially when there is a big redecorating project going on. Did you find the matching lamp? I've been to S. Calif. several times, even went to a taping of a show (decades ago!). It was so fun! I LOVE 'The Big Bang Theory' and I hope you get to see it.

The FlyLady 15 minutes a day decluttering challenge is great and I gladly will take it on - starting tomorrow! My house is very well ogranized but I have many boxes full of paperwork that I need to go through because I HATE doing paperwork and will find any excuse to avoid it! Probably 90% of it will just be thrown out but still, just going through it is so, so TEDIOUS. Then again - I can do anything for just 15 minutes!

Barbara - Mark's Lasik eye surgery went well, thanks for asking. He is uncomfortable tonight though, he says it itches and is watery. He took some meds and will see his eye doctor tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow - do any of you live in New England or the North East? We are bracing for a HUGE blizzard! Of course, nowadays they blow everything out of proportion but if we get even half of what they are expecting, it will be a storm to remember! I stocked up on groceries (along with EVERYONE else in town, I swear!) and we have a generator, so we should be fine. Mark's eye appointment is in the morning, and if it's snowing he doesn't have to go to work, so we can stay in and be warm and cozy. Just wish we had a fireplace!

I haven't done any actual scrapbooking lately, but I have been working on my pet album, getting the stories written and figuring out what photos I want to use - not easy when you have HUNDREDS of each pet to choose from! I was supposed to go to a crop tomorrow night, but it's been cancelled due to weather. Maybe I'll get some done at home.

To those of you in the path of this storm (or any other bad weather) - stay safe! To everyone else - have a great day!

LOL, DEBI - I don't have a clue which candy bars you have there but I did notice in England a lot of those we know here aren't available there. So the Mars Bar comment was 'just in case'. And 'our' Milky Bars are just plain choc, no caramel. A Bar One would be what you described.... HeeHee, maybe we should do a choc bar swop? I'll send you some and you send me some... I know Wilna Furstenburg misses Peppermint Crisps from SA, so you don't get those in the US. It really is the small differences that make our lives/cultures so similar but yet so different.

Cathy - happy DH is feeling better after the eye surgery. Sorry, don't know what RAK stands for either, just know it's a list of our imaginary friends details You can send a peamail (like an internal email) by clicking on the Messages button right at the top next to your name. You can then send a message to any pea. An incoming message shows as a number in brackets (you may get an email telling you you have peamail too if the option is set on your profile. HTH!

Diana asked how to get her husband to get rid of some stuff. Apparently he has many, many old Polo shirts and lots of papers that he won't give up.

Well, that's a tough question!

I'm sorry to say it, but if he is a true hoarder there's not much hope that he will ever part with anything. Hoarding is a serious mental illness that takes an extreme toll on the person and their family. To a hoarder, each item has VALUE, even though to anyone else, it's just a piece of trash. Even with therapy, hoarders are rarely able to change. It's really tragic.

However, if he just keeps things because he has a sentimental attachment, there are ways around that - IF he's willing to listen to some reason and common sense.

Even better, if he just keeps stuff because it's easier than trying to deal with getting rid of it - well, that's easy to solve!

Let's start with the easiest situation. Let's say he's like my husband and for some reason, doesn't throw things away. He doesn't mind if *I* throw it away, he just can't seem to be bothered. So I do it.

I understand that if you both work, or even if you are a stay-at-home mom, the two of you should share the housework and you shouldn't HAVE to sort and throw away HIS stuff. But you have to make some decisions. Do you want to fight over it? If you do, will you win? If the stuff never gets thrown out, will you always feel resentment about that? Or, will the resentment you feel at having to clean up HIS mess, last a much shorter time, making you BOTH happier in the end?

The fact is, the mess doesn't bother him, it bothers you - so you will need to be the one to take care of it.

If he will let you sort his stuff, do it. Make 3 piles - keep, donate and toss. If he wants, let him see the finished piles and have final say - as long as he doesn't KEEP everything!

You won't be happy doing it, you might not be happy with HIM for making you do it - but that probably won't last long when you see the newly organized and clean closet/office/space.

OK, now let's say that he keeps his stuff because he has a sentimental attachment to it, but he's not a true hoarder, he still can listen to reason. Start with the 50 Polo shirts. Pile them on the bed and let him SEE just how many he has. Show him the stains and tears, ask if he will ever wear all of them again. Ask him to pick out 5 (or 10) of his favorites and let him keep those. Hopefully, by letting him keep some, he will be better able to get rid of the rest.

Or you can try putting all the Polo shirts in a plastic bin (let him keep a few of the best ones) and put a date on it. Not today's date, a date 6 months (or a year, 2 years) down the road and tell him that if he hasn't missed the shirts enough to go get them out of the bin by that date, away they go. Store the bin in the garage, basement, attic, even under the bed.

Getting rid of paperwork is much harder, of course. It's sometimes difficult to tell if a paper is important. And a lot depends on what type of papers you are talking about. Old papers that he wrote in college? Newspapers? Insurance or tax papers?

If he wants to keep his old college papers, let him. Buy a plastic bin and put them in it and store it away someplace. If there are really too many to keep, ask him to select HALF to keep and let the other half go.

Newspapers have to go, period. Not only are they a fire hazard, but there isn't a house built that is big enough to store newspapers! Besides, almost any article you'd ever want can be found again, probably online. If you insist on keeping the newspaper printed on the day your kids were born, well, OK - but that's all! If there is an article about you or your family that you want to keep, cut it out and preserve it. Do NOT keep the entire paper!

There are countless books written about dealing with the other type of papers - insurance, tax, bills, etc. There are as many ways to organize them as there are people. If you want, I can go into this more in another post.

So to really answer Diana's question about how to get her husband to get rid of stuff, the simple answer is - YOU do it. You will be so much happier for it!

Of course, I do understand that people and relationships are complicated and the advice I give here may not work for every couple - but it's the best I can do without knowing all the details!

About peamail - I found the message place but the only members's addresses I have are the two who have sent me a peamail. How do I send a peamail to Monica or anyone else?

hey girls -

Happy Friday to everyone

Cathy - thanks, the week got better. Although the modified tests I made for my sub to read to my Science class were not found (I left them with one of the teachers...sigh...) So I will have to reread them the test...also I will have to finish one of the kids math DEA tests, and they have reading projects due next week...and one of my students that has been out for over 60 days this year has come back, and even though he had homebound help, he didn't do any of his math, and I'm trying to get him up to date, but there is soooo much he has missed...sigh...and I get one whole hour to try to do all this in.
Thanks for all your clutter suggestions.

But it's all good, right, LOL...

Anyway, I hope everyone has a super day!

Cathy (and Michelle) RAK stands for Random Act of Kindness. It was started eons ago by someone out there somewhere that wanted to add one little bit of goodness for no reason other than just being nice. So the RAK here is just a way that you have access to each others phone #, address, etc so you can send a card or call if you want to reach out. No pressure to send anything but it really is nice getting a real piece of mail on your birthday. I used to be good about sending cards to everyone, haven't done it since I changed jobs and don't make the extra time. Sad for me too because I miss making them.

As for how to send a Peamail, click on the person's name by their avatar. You will go to their page and on the left you'll see a "send a peamail" Click on that and you'll go to the Peamail and their address will already be populated in the box. You can save that address to your contact list. I did that for almost everyone without actually sending a Peamail to them. Just saved the address, deleted the peamail.

1/2 day today then taking my friend Paula to see some movie she wants to see, it's a psychological thriller--don't remember the name. Never did go when it was her birthday so it's long over due. Not sure if we're doing lunch before the movie or dinner after.

Have a great day all.

Thanks Theresa, I think I figured out peamail!

I do know what Random Acts of Kindness are - I try to practice them whenever possible! - but I couldn't figure out how RAK related to our email addresses. Now I know!

I hope you enjoy the movie.

Toni - I'm glad your week is going better, sort of.

No snow here yet, I guess it won't be coming until later.

Have a great day!

Good morning. This girl got her taxes together and ready to mail to the accountant. Happy with myself for getting it pulled together, I usually wait until March. Today I see the hand doc and hopefully he'll say to start therapy. I'd love to get the cast off.

Theresa- how was the forum?

Debi- I hear you. We don't qualify for any assistance during this time. Never mind that unemployment doesn't even cover the mortgage. Praying for you and your family.

Cathy- and anyone else in the blizzard, stay safe! Perfect reason to have a home-crop!!
Thanks for the tips- DH is a sentimental hoarder and a "we may need it one day" guy. He's slowly coming around. We've been talking about how what is his treasure is not necessarily about someone else's.

Michelle- we had a friend from Australia- she really missed candy from back home. They've now moved back, and she misses some US candy.

OK, spent too long on computer, Charley will be here real soon. Have a great day everyone!
