I love making cards. I usually make them from scratch but I bought Anna Griffin's card kit last Fall and that was a great idea. It was nice to make some cards that are all figured out. All I had to do was put it together.

Yes, I do like it when I do it. However, now I also feel like I have to because I have the materials and I've done it enough times I'm thinking there might be questions if I send out store-bought ones. |

I'm in the same boat. I don't like to buy them, since I have all the stuff, but I just don't enjoy making them at all. I think for me, it's because with my layouts I'm being creative, showcasing my pictures, telling a story, and keeping a memory alive. Cards don't have pictures, don't tell a story unless you write one, and aren't a part of my personal memorykeeping process. |

I do, but I make scrapbook pages and art journal pages more with most of my cardmaking supplies and my stamps than I do actual cards. Try to see your supplies as interchangeable, then maybe you won't feel so guilty. |

think of it like this:
just because a hammer could be used to nail a shingle to a roof, would you feel guilty about hiring someone to fix your roof, or would you feel obligated to do it yourself-- because you also own a hammer?? I doubt you'd feel guilty about that!
(this was said sort of tongue-in-cheek, but not totally... our supplies are like tools, in that they can be used for many different things. One use doesn't automatically make us obligated to utilize them for other things as well.)

I LOVE making cards but I also love store-bought cards too! I even buy my Christmas cards because I love all the traditions of Christmas and sending those types of cards is part of that. Also, I don't think I could take the pressure of making Christmas cards. I send them to too many people.
I think too, that cards give me a quick creative boost/sense of accomplishment where layouts and mini albums take a lot of time and are more of a commitment.

Yes and no. I really enjoy making them for Operation Write Home or other charitable causes. On the other hand, I don't enjoy making personal ones because it stresses me too much. For some reason my grown up kids expect me to make Halloween and Valentines Day cards for sure. The other holidays I get a pass. I have one friend who really likes getting my cards so she's another exception. I have quite a few cards I've made for people but have never sent. Crazy. |

I enjoy making cards except when my dd informs me she needs a card asap! I don't like to make them on the spot. I made my Christmas cards this past Christmas, some from scratch, some from kits (BG and B . I did purchase a birthday kit from Anna Griffin last Nov. that I plan on making tomorrow. I like to have a few on hand. But I really only make them for family and a very few close friends. And the occassional friend for dd, just hope next time she gives me more notice.

I LOVE making cards! I get to try all the techniques I'm interested in and if it is a flop, the card is small and didn't use up many supplies!
Most people I give them to treasure them but I know not everyone is going to keep the cards. But that is ok, I'd be more upset if I spent $5 on a card that went directly into the trash! At least I had FUN making the card! |

I like making cards, usually I'll use scraps or older supplies. I don't use my very best stuff on cards (unless they're for my mum because she keeps them all )
I got a card making sketch book not long ago which really helped me. And I don't worry about sending the same design to more than one person (unless they live at the same house or something).

I would like to make cards and use up scraps and supplies, but I HATE to think of a sentiment to put on the inside. A store bought card has all the really nice poems, cute sayings, etc. A homemade card is usually just "Happy Birthday", "Happy Valentine's Day", "Merry Christmas". I never know what to say in them. I do know the people I would send them to will keep them, so that's not the problem. My only issue is the sentiment.

I have tried and tried and come to embrace....I do not enjoy making cards (I rarely give cards as well). I am however in a monthly card class where we make 4 cards a month. I usually give those as a Christmas gift in a decorative box with a nice pen, envelopes and book of stamps. Cards are just not my thing. |

I love finding card inspirations in the gallery and on Pinterest and really do like making them. I am not a fan of when someone puts me on the spot to just whip one up (usually my hubs). He's always very appreciative but I never feel "inspired" and end up just tossing something together that I don't really like just to get it done. Takes a little bit of the fun out of cardmaking. |

I love making cards. I started out purely scrapbooking. After seeing the lovely creations others made, I got inspired. It thrills me to use up my scraps or little bits on a card.
It may help that I never feel pressured to make a card. If I didn't feel like making one, I wouldn't feel guilty.

I got very inspired in card making a few yrs ago when I watched the Thinking Inking Series here on 2 Peas.
I love trying out new techniques and as someone already said, a card is an easy size to practice. When I get a design I like, I make up several more.
I like to keep a good selection of "basic" kind of cards around and then when someone needs a card, I can quickly add the appropriate sentiment and off they go! That way, they get used up AND I'm not trying to design a cute card in 10 minutes.
My cards tend to be stamp and ink techniques based. I haven't figured out how to make "my style" using up my paper scraps yet. I want to try, but I think I'd miss the inking techniques if I'm just sticking bits of paper down. Need to find a balance.....

That about sums it up for me too.
I make about half a dozen at Christmas for immediate family only and do 3 or 4 birthday cards through the year as well, but all others I buy. I make sure they are nice but I keep them simple so I can get it over with quickly.
I do sometimes look at the Amazing Paper Grace site, Becca does awesome work but I wouldn't have the patience to do even a simplified version of hers. |

Check out their site- there are lots of tutorials, challenges, etc to give you some ideas! They are having a blog skip today! And don't feel guilty- if you don't enjoy it- why bother? I love making cards. I started as a card maker back in 1996. Haven't bought a card since then!!
It is a great way to use scraps. I try to make a bunch ahead of time so I have some on hand. But I've made some of my best cards when I have 20 minutes to get out the door with the present and a card! Lol
I don't care that it will get thrown out. Card making is a way for me to be creative. So really that person is doing me a favor by having a birthday! LOL |

I enjoy it. Making them last minute stresses me out a bit, so I like to have a few on hand for common occasions (Happy Birthday, Best Wishes, Thank You).
I enjoy getting to play with different stamps and Slice images I wouldn't use on my LOs, and I feel good about using up scraps.
I still buy cards sometimes, generally if I'm not sure if the recipient will like a handmade card, or if it's a professional relationship. My handmade cards go to close personal friends, family, and my bf and his family.

I go in spurts. I really do love making cards, but 2 years ago I made well over 100 of them and most of them are still in the storage box waiting to be given or sent. Problem is, I made too many Thank You cards and not enough Birthday cards! I used up all my homemade Christmas cards this year--most of them were from kits or Basic Grey which I LOVE! I think it's harder to use scraps to make cards. I did buy one of SG's Card sketch books, but haven't done any yet. I think kit card clubs make it so much easier when they come with instructions. I'm getting ready to do my first card kit from SG later today.
All that being said, I think it's hard to give them too when you know you've put so much time into them and they will just be thrown in the trash the next day or maybe a week later. My oldest DD and my youngest DD save theirs so that makes me happy. They both have a "Memory Box" that they put the cards I made them in. I think that's really cute!

Those that talk about agonizing over how to design and so on. IF you have any liking for it at all, just know that it gets easier and you start popping cards out without thinking! I used to just not know where to start but after a while, I'll start a card, think I'm going in one direction and it ends up going in another.
Just like the first cake I decorated. Took almost all day Saturday, but later, that same cake would have taken less than 30 minutes to ice and decorate.
I've actually been making cards in one form or another since I was 14. Back then, it was white construction paper, forget about finding a package of white cardstock. I used my markers to draw and fill in my design and then filled it in with glitter. Always been fond of glitter! Then for years, made them on the computer and now back to glue and glitter but added embossing, heat embossing, stamps, die cuts and my markers cost a LOT more now! |

It is a quick way to see a finished project.I also make sets of cards to give as gifts. Today I plan to make my DD some thank you cards to send since she just had a baby.
