Recipe share from last weeks challenge
baked garlic brown sugar chicken
On the recipe it ask for olive oil which is seen under the picture. It's chicken was soooo yummy and I completed my meal with wild rice and pineapples. I loved how tender and juicy it was. I would next time double the ingredients for the sauce glaze, but other then that I loved the chicken. Found on Pinterest. |

And my favorite sweet treat is strawberry short cake or a strawberry chocolate cake with chocolate icing and a glass of cold milk. Have only had that cake once in NY as a teen and can't seem to find it made anywhere.
Great now I want cake. |

Welcome to the new girls
I'm Lisa, 22, newlywed (well married in August) to Joshua, and have two fur babies Neo and Loki. I currently reside in Alberta, Canada
I don't always upload LO's to the gallery, but decided to upload a few! Here are the links:
Hello 22
You Gave Me Wings
I have some more I want to share, but haven't had decent lighting to take pictures! Hopefully tomorrow! The "You Gave Me Wings" LO is the one for Rach's first challenge of this month! All the product on that LO is from my kit!
I am so excited! While browsing the internet tonight, I came across this youtube video about a book called "Wreck this journal" by Keri Smith and are going out tomorrow to buy it from the book store! I want to get into art journaling, and this seems like a way to get my foot in the door and jump into a new territory of creativity! Let me know what you ladies think and I will let you know what I think of the book if you are interested!
Well, i'm off to bed. Going to scrapbook tomorrow! Spent all day today doing Project Life week's 5 and 6 and got the majority of my base done for my wedding reception album. I'm making it completely from scratch, so it takes a bit of work! I am off work tomorrow as tomorrow is "family day" in Alberta so it is a stat holiday so I am off and getting paid to be at home scrapping!
I will for sure check in tomorrow with more pictures of LO's! Please let me know what you ladies think, as i'm just starting out making LO's and am nervous if they are good or not... please give me your honest opinion, constructive criticism is the best criticism out there! |

Hi girls!
I'm sorry!! I've been extremely MIA past two weeks!
It's been quite hectic, especially with the work situation but also with D being gone (but luckily that last one is solved now )
Good news is we booked the flights for our vacation last night! We'll be going to Corsica (a french island near italy).. Can't wait!
I've barely had any energy or time to scrap.. Did a layout or two, but sadly no work on PL.. Really want to finish 2012 before I start my new job on the 1st of March
Anyway.. How are you all doing? Love to see all your kits and can't wait to see what you make with them!
Let me try to catch up!
@ Caro: girl! you got a lot of things going on! I'm sure you can't wait to go to Madrid! Would love that! Spent some time abroad while I was still studying and loved it! How did your interview go?
@ Loni & Elizabeth: how are you preg ladies feeling these days?
@ Monica: Yay on getting back to school! How long will it take for you to get your bachelors? Hopefully it'll help in finding you an appropriate job!
Cute new layouts by the way!
@ Christina: how did your midterm go? And yay for spending more time with your love! Nothing better huh?
@ Bethany: on losing your job! Any idea what you'll be going to do next?
@ Rachel: how are you doing? Did the weekend do you any good?
Still owe you the red cabbage recipe:
ingredients:
1 red cabbage, about a kilo
6 cloves,
salt,
1 bay leaf (s),
2 juniper berries,
1 teaspoon cinnamon powder,
1 tablespoon syrup,
2 tablespoons vinegar,
2 cox's orange pippin (type of apple),
1 tablespoon butter,
1 teaspoon sugar,
preparation:
Remove the outer leaves of cabbage. Chop the red cabbage into quarters . Cut the cabbage into thin slivers. Put the cabbage in the pan.
Add the following ingredients to the pan: 1.5 dl water, 2 teaspoons salt, cloves, bay leaf, juniper berries, cinnamon, syrup and vinegar.
Stir together and bring to the boil. Leave it with the lid on for about 1 hour to simmer. Stir occasionally.
Meanwhile peel the apples and remove the cores. Cut the apples into thin slices. Spoon the apple pieces through the red cabbage. With the lid diagonally on the pan cook the cabbage for about half an hour more and let the excess water evaporate. Occasionally stir.
Stir the butter into the red cabbage and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove the cloves, juniper berries and bay leaf.
Add flavour with salt, sugar and vinegar. Serve with a beef steak and potatoes (of course!)
@ Laura Mae: love your caramel recipe! Will have to try those! And love your Valentine story! Those cupcake liner flowers are supercute
@ Lisa: love your new layouts, especially the 'hello 22' one
@ all new girls, Crystal, Desiree, 'SickNtired', TonyaRenee: Welcome! I'm Dee from the Netherlands, I'm 27 years old and living together with my fiance in an appartment in the second largest city of my country I'm currently working as a lawyer (or attorney at law), but will start a new job on the first of the next month
And to end this super long post, my answers to the discussion questions:
3. What is your favorite candy/sweet treat?

Dee: Thanks for the recipe! I will have to try it out soon!! I had some red cabbage when I was in the Black Forest that was TO DIE FOR. It was paired with wild boar and potatoes.
Mille has a cold Hoping to get her to the doctor today because saline in her nose and the humidifier haven’t touched it. However, it is blowing snow on the mountain today, and I really don’t want to get her out in that/ask my mom to drive her to meet me in that. I dunno...maybe try saline for another day and hope that helps...

I am so behind on here! Sorry I've been MIA this month. I guess I've been pretty busy... or when I do have time to sit down, I am scrapping instead of chatting!
Loni- Welcome back! You need to tell us all about the cruise I've never been on one before.
Rach- Oh no Hope you feel better soon!
Elizabeth- Sorry you haven't been feeling well lately, either. Hope the medicine helps!
Christina- Woohoo for A's on your midterms! Is it really already halfway through the semester?
Tonya- Welcome! How cool that you married your high school sweetheart
Dee- So jealous for your vacation! That sounds heavenly. I would so love to go somewhere warm on a beach! Are you nervous about starting your new job? I'm jealous! I need a job!
Desiree- Welcome! How cool about your wedding on 12/12/12. My bro turned 30 on 12/12/12! I love numbers things like that. Yep, I'm a nerd That sucks that you can't scrapbook right now... but hopefully you will find enough inspiration for when you can get back into it!
Lisa- Yay for uploading layouts! I have a pile I need to upload, too. I also need to go back & leave praise for everyone else on the thread! I'm so behind...
Laura Mae- Those flowers are so cute!! I want to try making some now!
catching up on discussion:
What is your favorite candy/sweet treat?

Well, I'm currently on a diet so thought I'd share a new favorite HEALTHY recipe
Cous Cous Salad
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
1 1/2 cups whole wheat couscous, uncooked
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/3 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
6 green onions, white and green parts chopped
1/3 cup thinly sliced fresh basil or 1 tablespoon dried basil
1 pint cherry tomatoes, halved
Zest of 1 lemon
1 cup reduced fat feta cheese
DIRECTIONS:
In a medium saucepan, bring the broth to a boil. Stir in the couscous. Cover the pan, remove from the heat and let stand for five minutes. Transfer the couscous to a large bowl and fluff with a fork. Let the couscous cool to room temperature.
In a small bowl or liquid measuring cup, whisk together the olive oil, vinegar, red pepper, slat, paprika, and pepper. Set aside.
Add the chopped green onions, basil, tomatoes, lemon zest and feta cheese to the cooled couscous and toss. Pour the vinaigrette over the salad and stir or toss until combined. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
Note: I changed the recipe a bit! I made it easier by just buying the boxed cous cous made by Near East (I LOVE the garlic + olive oil one). I cooked it according to package directions, then added cherry tomatoes, green onions, black olives, and cheese. It's yummy! |

I feel like I've been MIA as well this month. I've been busy and it's hard to believe that February is almost over. Then onto March. I dislike that month it's getting through the dreaded end of Winter which don't get me wrong I LOVE winter but it gets tiring when it's hanging on by that time I'm ready for Spring.
@Melissa - Can't wait to see pictures of your adventures.
@Loni - Looking forward to hearing stories from your cruise. My hubby and I have been talking about taking one.
@Hodge - I LOVE your layouts. You are so talented. I like your most recent one you posted with the title "Could you be any cuter"
Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their week. I'm taking tomorrow off to get my new to me SUV. Looking forward to it! I will finally be able to get some scrapping in on Sunday as I'm going to a crop from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Saturday is busy with snowmobiling in the mountains
What is your favorite candy/sweet treat? Reese's Peanut Butter Cups without a doubt

Hi Dee, I'm feeling well. I need to IG another belly picture. I'm quite larger than the last one I posted 2 weeks ago. And Elizabeth! I need to pmail you a picture! I'll wait until I take a new one.
Dee, my husband and I love your food pics on IG, keep them coming! He's a real foodie too.
Christina, yay for getting some scrappy time! I'm glad you are doing so well on your midterms, though I'm not surprised at all.
Rachel and Elizabeth, are you feeling any better? Winter needs to end, my little girl has been sick for most of the past 4 weeks!
Monica, I already told you my scrapping on the cruise story, but for everyone else:
So, on a cruise they have events scheduled throughout the day. When I saw "scrap booking" (they must prefer not to print words that aren't yet in the dictionary) I had to check it out. So I go in to the "library" where the event is held and there are 3 other women and a cruise employee. She's pulling out the scrapbooking kits that I have seen for sale in the lobby.
I just tried a search, sorry I couldn't find images of them. They weren't bad really, especially if you scrapped 4 years ago. haha, but you know, I've been spoiled with the fancy new product. Yep, I'm a product snob!!
So she pulls out a couple kits and says we can use two pages and two stickers, but if we want any more, please just buy a whole kit. I was like, ok, no big deal, I will probably use the equivelent of half a sheet anyway. I made a few things to add to my smashbook/travel journal that I had brought on the trip.
Oh I forgot to mention that 2 more ladies came after me. I sat by one (to get closer to the supplies) and she politely asked me to move back and make room for her girlfriend who she had "been scrapbookin' with fur years" (southern accents are so cute!). I was a little embarrassed, but she was really nice.
By then the cruise employee had pulled out liquid white glue, chunky glitter in the big bottles and sequins, and scissors.
SO like I sad, I made a few things for my travel album and was ready to leave after 5-10 minutes. and I did leave. The other ladies were having a ball and were snapping pictures of themselves scrapbooking on a cruise. When I left they were shocked that I was finished already. They must have thought I wasn't a real scrapbooker. hehe
So I found hubby who was reading in one of the lobbies and laughed and told him this same story. He called me a scrapbooking snob and I agreed, of course.
I found out I'm not a cruise kind of girl, but I'm ordering my pictures today and after going through them I've realized, It wasn't that bad after all. But, I probably won't go again.
Okay, I'll catch up on the rest of the chatter in a bit. |

Haha Loni I totally had the same "cruise scrapbook" experience! But the person running the event didn't even show up so I kind of escaped. Was your cruise windy? I think that was my least favorite part of being on a cruise, it was difficult to stay outside and read for long.
Monica, no summer classes for me! I really like the 4 month break. Way too much to book classes haha
Tessa, thanks so much! On breaks like this I find it really really hard to do homework because I havent been able to do anything creative in a long time. I just really want to drop everything and scrapbook!
Hey Mel and Caroline!!
I'm just doing homework, actually getting things done for once haha |

So funny to hear about the scrapbook experiences. I have a funny story about something similar, however, it is too long to type out on my phone. Will share tonight!
I am a scrapbook snob.
So I went to my M's in search of Heidi Swapp Color Shine and they didn't have any. I asked an employee who was clueless about the product but educated me on the store a bit. Apparently my M's is a mircro-michaels meaning it is the smallest one they build. So they might not get Color Shine at all. Then she said that somehow M's and Pinterest are connected and things that get pinned a lot, they pick up (makes sense) ie: washi and PL sized stuff.
She was a nice college student with dreads and I enjoyed talking with her a bit., even if she didn't know squat about what she was selling.
So I am feeling some better, but ready for the weekend. |

I actually won't get as much time as I usually do on Fridays b/c I have birthday plans for B. He was sick while on the cruise for his bday.
P is sick today, too, but I'll get something done hopefully. |

ahhh! i think i've been away too long i will catch up on everyone's posts this weekend!
if you've forgotten me or if you're new and i never got to meet you: my name is Camille, 25 y.o. living in the central valley of california currently working full-time and studying be a licensed accountant. i also have OCED (obsessive compulsive emoticon disorder).
soooo... the reason why i've been MIA was because of studying! yuck. the test i need to pass has four parts, this morning i took my final part! i won't know whether i've passed or not until mid-March so here's hoping!
but it's out of my hair for now, and that means more time for scrapping, crafting, and planning a wedding. but it's still busy/tax season for me at work, so still working over time. I feel like most of my PL spreads are pictures of places I study/work hope everyone gets to enjoy their weekend! i'll be scrapping fer sureeeee |

Hey Camille! Congrats on finishing exams! That's a bummer you don't know the results for a while.
Crystal, what? 28 and retired - sounds awesome! haha I'm 29, married and expecting my 5th child.
Hi Dee! I'm so excited for you finishing up a job you don't love to starting something new. What an adventure. I hope you have a wonderful couple of days to relax!
Rachel, get well soon! You and Millie!
Melissa, Are you feeling all better? 3 more weeks, awesome! I hope you are having a great time
Monica, Great mini! I love it. Are you going to scrap with me today?
I may have already used up all of my energy for today mopping the floor. Oh well, Happy Monday everyone! A new week!
I actually set a new fitness goal, so I need to go work out and THEN I'll really be exhausted. |

Hello ladies!
I've been around and super busy going through I guess my nesting phase. Sat up one night and cleaned my kitchen from the fridge to the floors and beyond. Yesterday I wasn't feeling great so skipped church and while I was home alone I did more cleaning. Lol.
To all the newbies quick intro: Elizabeth, 28, married 6 years, 2.5y/o DD, 5y/o DD, and a DS due in July. I am a SAHM, I homeschool my children, and I love crafting and my family.
I just wanted to check in since it's been awhile. I haven't been able to keep up with the post, but hopefully I'll try to. I have been scrapbooking with my oldest which is fun. I am putting the finishing touches on her first year album (exploding into 2 albums) while she is working on her 5th year album (with my supervision). It feels great to be scrapbooking again. Hoping to catch up on both girls albums before the new year.
Hope everyone has a good week. I'll try to be in touch. |

Loni, I'll scrap with you today! I have to get some errands done first, though. We're expecting another snow storm here that is supposed to start around 3:00. They are saying this one could be just as bad or worse than the one last week BUT! That just means I'll be scrapping it up this week |

Elizabeth, isn't it fun scrapping with kids? My niece loves to scrap with me. I bet P (my daughter) will be fun when she gets older. She cuts apart paper and draws and colors and calls it "her lesson". After she's done she gives us a little lesson. "Okay, do you see the pink? Do you like the pink?" etc. She's 4 btw.
Monica, yay! We got a couple of inches but yesterday afternoon and today it is all melting away. Glad to have above 35 degree weather though. It'll be good for the new baby cows! We haven't gotten our first calf yet, though, but can you tell I'm excited about it?
I'm scrapping now! Hurry and come play while Gem's still sleeping! |

Monica: please send me that snow. We are supposed to get ice overnight. Ice is dangerous and damaging. No thanks.
Work is...work. I'm on call this weekend, and next weekend. Then again the 23rd. Oh boy! |

So I'm done with the full time 9-5 onsite job I had to do. It lasted 3 weeks and I'm so happy to be back to my routine I used to have freelancing from home. That job was a huge learning curve for me making me realize that I'm not meant for the 9-5 world. Which actually in New York minutes is more like a 7am-10pm world. So draining. I slept pretty much the whole weekend! I also got caught up on lots of things around the house, laundry, cleaning, organizing, errands. I feel so productive I love it! I miss this.
In other news, we bought a car! Kyle signed the papers on Friday and it will be shipped to the states in July when he comes home. Its the Volvo S60 and he got it in Navy blue. Go figure. (aka he's in the Navy) But hes super excited about it and I'm just thankful the search is over. He can't stop talking about it and thats good because it keeps him busy thinking about something good instead of work. I guess the Navy has been dealing with some stuff lately out there thats stressful. Don't know what it is though because he can't talk about it.
How are the rest of you doing?! It seems quite in here.
Loni I was dying when I read your "scrap book" cruise experience and you said she pulled out white glue and glitter!! hahahaha so good!
Crystal you are from CA! Me too!! Where abouts are you and my mom was a teacher too for many years out there. But anyways welcome to the scrap world. I think the YSers can back me up when I say that we usually buy more than we actually scrap! Let us know how you like the PL you are doing. I've seen and heard so much about it but just haven't been able to get into it yet, I need more convincing I guess.
Ya Dee I agree with Rachel, get some downtime and Scrap!!
Desiree thank you!! I'm in love with them I made a ton more! I'm sending them off for a swap but I made enough to keep and I can't wait to use them on a LO!
Monica I love love love all your stitching in your mini!! Suuuper cute!

Hello ladies!
It is very icy here. Trees are coated and roads are slushy. My goal is to make if home before dark.
I am still playing catch up with Millie's album, but I was able to finish a 6x12 layout to slip in with the pages from two weeks ago.
Maybe I can get some more work done on the album this weekend??? |

Laura, Kyle gets home in July? So soon, yet so far away! and you will still be living in different states, right? About the white glue - she did apologize for that at least, haha.
Rachel, I'm sad you have to be on call so much. Hopefully you won't get called and you can scrap a lot this weekend.
I'm going to clean and scrap today. I'm trying to scrap every day and end up with the equivalent of a LOAD project, though I know I won't get a LO done each day.
I'm doing some research on baby speech development. Gem is almost 2 and still doesn't say hardly anything. I'm not worried, I just think we need to give it some attention. |

hey everyone!
Not much going on lately... been snowed in! We got about 10" on Thursday, then another 9" yesterday and MORE overnight! This last snow is wet and HEAVY. There has been issues around the city with power outages, roofs caving in, trees down, etc. We have been lucky here - still have our power. One tree did fall in the backyard but it's small and didn't damage anything.
So I have pretty much just been spending my days inside scrapbooking, cooking, and doing stuff around the house! I guess I get so occupied with scrapbooking that I tend to not come to the thread... sorry about that!
I'm hosting the March challenges, and I promise I will be more active here on the thread! I have a little something up my sleeve for the challenge - a takeoff of Rachel's kit idea |
