I was trying to find a way to streamline and get some pages into books since I haven't done ANYTHING in 3yrs. First my 11yo DD comes in and tells me "no more pages on the computer mom, you don't put as much love into them". Tonight my DH came in and just did the "eh" look at my latest digi page and wasn't impressed at all. He had me take out my older layouts and compared them by running his hand on the page. And then went on to comment on the love and care that I took to create the paper page, and the clicking I'm doing to create the Digi page...

I'm so sorry to hear that your family isn't appreciating your new creative outlet. You can put as much love into a digital LO as you can a paper LO. Hopefully it will just be that they need time to adjust to the change???
My family and friends love my digital LOs and I love them more than my paper LOs now. I have to admit when I first started doing digital, I was worried that I wouldn't be as happy with my LOs as I was with my paper ones. But as my skill with using PSE and designing improved, I eventually appreciated that I could make a mistake and not worry about wasting supplies and photos. I could completely redo the LO in a different way if I needed to. I had much more leeway with how big or small I wanted to make my pictures on the LO. And I am able to share them much easier with family and friends.
Try not to get discouraged. If you are happy with your LOs, keep going and hopefully they will change their minds and get used to the new look.

If you can print them off and get them behind the page protectors they may not be able to tell the difference. It doesn't necessarily take less time or energy (or love) to make a digi page. I hope you stick with it if you like it. | |

Maybe they'd appreciate a hybrid look ? You could still primarily be doing the layout with the digital kits you're enjoying, but adding perhaps one embellishment - a digital element printed, cut out and popped up a little - to mimic a bit what they were used to seeing before. If the 3D feel is what you think they're missing. I've made some hybrid cards that way, that I've been pleased with. | |

I'm sorry you're feeling down. Don't throw in the towel yet...even though your family may not appreciate digital yet, maybe they will come around later. Since you are the scrapbooker, I'd say your preference of how to scrap trumps what the others are saying... And, maybe as the others have said, you can show them how much love does go into a digital LO as time goes on. There are a lot of silly misconceptions about digital scrapping that take awhile to clear up with those who aren't familiar with it.
You can always come here and chat with us about your pages if you need to be around people who love digi scrapping....

I would admit that my journey into digital was rather like Shannon's - I was interested in scrapping without the mess, but was feeling that I would miss the texture etc. In fact at first my kids called them fake scrapbook pages. However, the more experienced I got the more I like my digital pages - not unlike when I started paper scrapping. It wasn't too long before my family also appreciated the digital pages. And at this point I cannot even imagine scrapping traditional or hybrid. I am all digital all the time.
I'll bet your family will also come around. |

Don't get discouraged. Digital scrapbooking trumps paper scrapbooking big time, imo. When I first started, my pages had a definite "digital" look. All clean lines and no 3D-ness (if that makes sense). Very flat. Now, I'm working on using more textures and shadows to make the page looking 3D. Everything has a shadow. I also buy elements that look 3D. Keep it up! Your family will come around. In the mean time, enjoy scrapping with no mess, an undo button, reusable elements, easy cleanup, etc etc. |

Thanks Ladies... I've been enjoying learning PSE, so I'll sneak in layouts here and there, and still do some paper ones to use up the stash. I'm sure they'll get over it |

They will get over it.
After being all paper for over a decade, I slowly did more and more digital, until last year when I went all digital.
I know that my dd, sil, and one dil definitely prefer the paper layouts, and I understand why they do. But they still appreciate the digital layouts, and know that they are getting to see more layouts these days! |

Does that 11 yr old have an iPod? If she does, put a few of the digital pages on her iPod. Suddenly digi scrapping will be amazingly cool. She is only a few years (or less) away from having Facebook, a cell phone, etc., all places where having a few digi pages to display will be very fun for her and win her over.
As for the husband, mine didn't care much about digital or paper scrapbook pages either for that matter. However, once I started using digital and could suddenly print copies of the pages for all his family members, he suddenly saw it much differently.
If the pages always just stay on the computer and never get printed, I can see where family members wouldn't enjoy them much. But once they are printed, they can be used as any pages are and they will eventually be won over.

I feel so much better about my digital scrapping than I ever did about my paper scrapping. Plus I get a lot more done digitally. Although my husband made a comment the other day about how he knows I put a lot of time into my LO's but it doesn't always look like it. I just ignore it. It's my creative outlet. He doesn't have to understand or appreciate it. |

I agree with everyone else! Hang in there.
I feel like there is a big learning curve with digi. There are lots of techniques and tools available to make things exactly the way you want, as opposed to physical elements that don't change color or size.
It looks like your most recent posts have been paper pages. I love your style, by the way. You can accomplish that with digi too. Post some of your digital layouts and ask for suggestions about how to accomplish the "look" you want.
Really, they'll come around and realize that "clicking" your pages doesn't require less love. |

Do both - digi and paper! When I first started digi scrapping I thought my paper stash was in trouble... but I actually still paper scrap a lot. I love doing both. Whether I choose to do a digi layout or a paper layout depends on my mood. |
