I boght a 37 marker set of the Tim Holtz distress makers and several of them are dried out. I bought them at a Creating Keepsake Convention in October and just got them out to use for the first time. Is there any trick to get a dried out marker to work? |

I found that some of the markers seemed dry at the fine point end, but the brush end was okay. Try storing them horizontally for awhile. The light pink (cotton candy, I think) was particularly bad in my set. |

I would try a contact Tim (or Ranger if they are made by them) I have read they have great customer service. Maybe even Creating Keepsakes but I think your best bet is the former |

In playing with mine, I have noticed that it seems I put the cap on as it clicks. However, it still isn't closed. I am not clicking it far enough down. Now I have learned what to watch for, and take time to really put the lids on right instead of quickly putting a lit back on. Just thought I would mention it so no one else does what I have been doing. |

I would contact the company and have them replaced. You paid for new markers and you should get what you paid for, not have to come up with your own solution. |

Tim just posted a video in the last couple of days on using the markers, and he said you should store them horizontally as the small tip does have a tendency to dry out. I think he said that that should redistribute the ink and rehydrate the tip. I just put mine on their sides, as I was having trouble with the fine nib drying out (the brush tip has been fine). I only have the picket fence marker and find it to be pretty dry. I have not been impressed with it, so haven't bought any others.
Also, it's so dry that it doesn't seem like it's working, then a little later a little bit of white shows up on wherever I used it. You can't tell what you're doing with it.  |

I have only tried the Picket Fence one and I loved it until it dried out I stored it horizontally and made sure the cap was on and it didnt make a difference, both ends dried out. |

Well I am glad to know that it is not just me. I received a set last year as a gift and since the day I opened them more than 75% of them were dried. It came with a container so I stored them flat, but it was still useless. And it was my brush tips that were dry. I finally got rid of them last month when I did a major cleaning. This is why I pay more for Copics. |

Seriously? Geese, I have a bunch that I bought but have yet to use... and apparently I'm not storing them properly either so I better check them out tonight!

Absolutely agree 100%. I'm wondering what the end result of this would be given that Tim commented about them drying out... I will say that Ranger has AMAZING customer service. I bought some ink pads from my LSS about a year ago that were dried out. I contacted Ranger and they replaced every single one of them! |

Oh Oh, I just ordered the whole set.
I wish I would have heard about the drying out issues before I did
I will try all mine tonight.
I do have Copics and Stampin' Up markers and they are work just as well as the day I purchased them.
I hope my Distress markers work properly...noting worse them making a purchase and it not working.
Tim Holtz products are such high quality, I would be so disappointed if they don't work

What a bummer!
I agree with previous posters about contacting Ranger. Maybe they will replace them for you.
i have some of the distress markers that I bought in packs last summer. So far I haven't had any problems with them drying out. I will say I have to really make sure I push hard on the cap when I'm done with them. |

Ironic that this is coming up on the boards not because I emailed Ranger Customer Service last week about seven markers that are dry. I purchased the set this summer and hadn't messed with them much until last week. (Sad, I know.) CS replied recommending laying them on their side for 24-48 hours and letting them know if they wicked again. Pickett Fence was particularly bad. They seemed very attentive. I am going to check on the markers today. |

Yes. I can't comment on that particular pen, but there are other pens that work like that, too. I have a 'chalk' pen that also does that and so do the souffle pens. |

I LOVE my distress ink pads, reinkers and stains, but it seems to me that if you are selling a double tipped marker that the barrel of the marker should be FULL of ink so that both sides work no matter HOW it is stored at least when brand new!
I can understand a well used marker that starts to only "wet" one tip when stored upright because you've used up lots of ink. But a brand new, unused marker needing to be laid on it's side for awhile before you can use it? Sounds to me like Ranger production skimped on the amt of ink they put in these markers?
That's disappointing because I have Distress Markers on my personal "wish list".

Thanks for all the responses. I contacted Ranger Saturday night. We will see what they have to say. I hope that they will be able to help. This set was expesnive and I would not have bought them if I knew there was a problem. They have been stored horizonatlly so I am glad to know it wasn't just me with the problem. |
