"And why is it necessary for them to change their views? They are a private organization and as Maureen states, they are free to believe what they wish and to associate with others who believe as they do."
Why do you think this is all about people who aren't part of BSA trying to force them to change? There are calls for change from inside the organization as well as outside. People who want their friends and family members to be welcome. People who want to be part of an organization that welcomes their values (yes there are lots of people in the BSA who don't believe in discrimination against gays and lesbians!!). There are men who grew up in the boy scouts and want to be leaders, but are barred because they are gay. | |

And, btw, I also support the right of their corporate sponsors, as private entities, to withhold funds if they don't make lift the ban.
As do I. |

Just to clarify- BSA are coed- It's called Venture Scouts under their program and it is very co-ed driven.
If we as a country believed that this is discrimination, whole heartedly there would be laws to prevent discrimination of sexual preferences as we do with race and disability. Lauren made a good point in that. As of now it is not a protected group of people specifically. Until we can come together as a country, and sadly I believe there are many parts of this country that aren't ready to accept that.... The fight and action has to come from the majority- and at this time our country is not there yet. Private organizations do not need to subscribe to any beliefs other than there own.
And for the Pea whose DH is an Eagle Scout- that came from many years of deep involvement in the same organization you now speak out against. At one point he believed in BSA and their practices, yet he has changed in time. Hopefully that lends hope that our country will too one day.
