According to the news my little town leads CT in snowfall totals so far at 21"! I had been shoveling a pee path for the dogs on the deck all afternoon/evening but after I came down from putting Finn to bed it was clear that this was a lost battle for the night. Tomorrow ill bundle way up and see if I can even get out the door. My kingdom for some snow pants!

I can't get out the door to check my yardstick, LOL...snow is piled too high against it!! But a friend not too far from me just posted on FB that she's got 22 inches so far in her yard. Still many hours to go though!

Recycle the weather from 2010 when Maryland and the D.C. Area got nearly 5 ft of snow over three weeks, with almost back to back blizzards/nor'easters!

I saw on The Weather Channel some stuff that looked like the hype we had... Yep, cancel everything before there was a flake in sight.

What I remember most about our snowmaggedon... After two weeks of towels all over the floors (wet paws mostly) and having mountains of snow in all the parking lots, I was glad that it started melting.

Those of you going through this, do enjoy what you can of it. But be safe, and stay warm.

I have some pictures from right smack in the middle of Long Island. These were all taken at either 10pm or 1am this morning, in my yard, without a flash. There's definitely over a foot out there. The eastern end of the island is REALLY getting slammed.

PSA: make sure the snow doesn't have you trapped in your home. In case of emergency, you need to have a way to get out of the house. Shovel at least a clear path from one door.

Too much blowing and drifting to get an accurate reading. We got about 18-20 inches. All state roads are closed, so we're just hunkering down. Thankfully, we have power. That was my biggest concern. Poor McFly, our puppy, doesn't like that the snow is over his shoulders and also doesn't like the area we've cleared for him to do his business (he's very demure and doesn't like people looking when he pees or poops) so he's not loving it. We may have to clear him a spot around a corner of the house, so he doesn't think we're watching him, lol.

Sorry -- I had to shovel a path for the dog. I couldn't get the front door open because the storm door opens out and there's a 4 ft drift!
Here's my measuring tape -- turns out I put it in the least snowy spot. We snowblowed about 12" off the driveway last night and there's another 24" on it this morning. And the storm still has another 4-6 hours to go.

Here's the other side of the porch.

As of about 5am we were at 25", but it's still snowing here.

Did I mention I just found out my BIL's snowblower (they live across the street) that we always use is apparently broken?

It's going to be a long day.

27" in northern Connecticut. It took my DH two hours to snow blow the driveway. The town plow got stuck on our street and they had to bring in the heavy duty front loader.

Lots of drifting here, but measuring anywhere from 24-27" on my back deck. DS had to go out the garage and around the back to get the measurement, since there was no way the front or back doors were opening! Luckily we have light and fluffy stuff, the snowblower is getting through it. Stay warm!

I feel badly for them. Honestly, I do, but we had been told for days not to be out on Friday. The governors of CT, NY and MA had told residents "be where you're going by noon. And then stay put." I just don't understand being out there, in a non 4WD vehicle no less, unless you are some kind of emergency responder. They were interviewing people who all said: "I just didn't think it would be that bad."

I hate that people not only risk their own lives, but also those of the people who have to try to rescue them.

This is out the front door of our building.

That's my car under there.

These little guys kept trying to get into our feeder but there was snow blocking it. I tossed some sunflower seeds out there for them.

These stairs go from our balcony up to our neighbor's.

I have no idea how much snow we got since there was so much wind and drifting. It's beautiful today!

On Long Island, Suffolk County

This is where I live. Here's a link to a chopper video of the abandoned cars on a highway. chopper 12

Some folks were just trying to get home from work and got stuck. The snow really came down crazy fast from about 4pm on and if you lived far from where you worked, it took many hours to get home. There was no early school dismissal yesterday and for most of the day it was just a slushy mess. Until it wasn't!

We ended up with 2 feet. We don't have a snow blower but the neighbors came over and took pity on us while we were shoveling. Saved us from another four hours of shoveling!

I just came in from shoveling the porch steps and a little path for the dog to get out. She's a 70-lb dog, so not small -- and the snow was waaay deeper than she is tall. Poor thing was tunneling trying to find a good spot to go.

I had to wade through snow up to my waist to get to the front steps. The drifts were really really high in front of my house. I couldn't get the front door open.

I was thinking the same thing until I remembered...we have a 4 bay garage and the only reason I was able to have my van avoid the storm last night and have it in the garage is beacuse DH is away and his truck is at the airport freeing up a bay. Perhaps they are hoarders like my DH and have all their bays full Although from the looks of her decorating I'm pretty sure she doesn't have hoarding tendencies.

I am in Fredericton, New Brunswick and it is still snowing here...probably 25-30 centimeteres down but lots of drifting so very hard to tell. And it figures, DH is away and I could not get our snowblower started so my oldest DD and I shoveled a basic path from the garage to the road in case we needed to get out in an emergency.

Lost the yard stick in a drift.
Snow plow guy got stuck 1/2 way up the driveway with a 6 foot plus mound of snow in the middle of the driveway. He's coming back with a bucket loader.
1 hour of shoveling and I only got between mine and DH's car and DS11 got a path to the wood pile, good thing we brought 6 loads of wood in Thursday.

Headed back out now to do more shoveling. At least I'm burning calories!!

Oh boy does that look familiar!!!!

Manually clearing the snow... do in short spurts and don't try to move too much if it is still windy.

Poor puppies, our dogs were not very happy until we clear a few trails in the snow for them. And why are dogs so shy anyways???

Sending P&PTs for everyone to be home safe and sound, and only minimal power problems and weather related troubles.

One of our friends' husband is in RI to help restore power, he got up there Thursday night with a crew to be in place and ready. They were out starting at noon today. P&PTS for all those that HAVE to be outside!

Love the photos, wish we had some of it just not all of it.

We're cleared out, 28.5" was the final for my area. My poor friend in the next town over hasn't seen a plow yet. I'm hoping the train is running tomorrow so I can get into work because I am NOT driving in to Boston.

I am all weathered out, I haven't seen anything about another storm, and I'm not looking . I know rain tomorrow though.

My youngest is so jealous of you all! We were promised a few centimetres of the white stuff this weekend but the worst we had was a bit of sleet. He is seriously cheesed off, as we have only had one lot of snow this year which lasted a couple of days and a couple of days at the beginning of December.
