Hi Everyone!
My challenge will run from Feb. 9 -- Feb. 17. This will be a good way to use up those card stock and paper scraps that you have left over from WF13 challenges. So you will want to do this challenge after you have done some of the others. Please post your projects to this discussion post and also to my blog post challenge. I will randomly chose a name for an RAK. I can't wait to see your creations!
Stampwilly
Use Those Scraps challenge I have decided to extend the date of my challenge through Monday, Feb. 18th at midnight since we are having problems uploading.

Hi, April! What a terrific challenge idea! I was just sitting in my crafty room, looking at a pile of scraps, wondering what to do with them! Thanks for hosting! |

I loved your sample cards, April.
Question: On the challenge blog, you say Please go to this link and see the tutorial on bargello. Please use this technique on your project, card, tag, etc. using the card stock and paper scraps from other projects you have done for other challenges in WF13.
That makes it pretty clear to me that we must use the Bargello Technique (a really cool technique, btw), but from your post here, I get the impression that we can use other techniques to use up scraps too.
Thanks for clarification.

I have wanted to try weaving, so that might fit in well with this challenge. Thanks April! |

Oh, a question: does it HAVE to use scraps from WF13, or is that just a suggestion? Can we use our older scraps? |

You will need to use the bargello technique using only the WF13 scraps that you have used on other WF13 challenges. I hope this is clear. I know we always have scraps left over from our Fests, so I was making this challenge so that we can use up some of those scraps that are left over. The details are on my blog.

Ok. Bargello it is!
I thought I'd post another "tutorial" for Bargello. This one focuses on using scraps, and I thought I'd link it in case it might help someone. I had to refer to it to remind myself of how to do it.
This is not an entry to this challenge. I made this one a long time ago: Bargello Card and Step-by-Step Instructions

I had cut 1" long strips to make the Paint Puzzler card, and so cutting the end pieces of those down to 1/2" by whatever the length they all are allowed me to eliminate all but one of those strips. I then cut five flowers out of what had been left of my hand-stamped 12 x 12 sheet.

Hmm...oh boy. I went and uploaded an entry to this challenge but now looking at Daria's tutorial Im not at all sure that it is the technique at all..mine is a pattern made from strips but it is woven not done the way Daria did her's at allso maybe not bargello at all. I'd love to retry the way Daria showed in her tutorial but may have to wait till I do more projects and collect more scraps.
In any case it is there now so anyone who wants to can take a look.

Gardencat, your entry is just fine and looks great! On my blog tutorial I said there were different ways to do this technique and weaving was one of them.

I'm a bit confused - what does Bargello actually refer to? What is the actual technique? |

I really wanted to try this technique. I'm sorry I posted to the challenge blog, this does not meet the critera (of using scraps from WF13)

I think Bargello was any of the examples Stampwilly showed on her blog. I tried this with the wave pattern. I combined this with the Little Known Consequences challenge, since uncharacteristically, I didn't have many scraps from this Fest, but they were perfect for a mini card.
I cannot upload my card at this time as there are gallery issues. I hope to try again in a few hours! |

Eagertoretire we all seem to have scrap issues. I realize now that I used a turquoise strip in mine which was from one of my attempts to do the Sablona Challenge, which later made it into the garbage...hmm...so now I wonder, if it was created in the process of attempting a challenge but never made it into a published project does it count?
In any case the main thing for me is this did give me a new fun way to use up those boxes of small thin pieces of scrap that I have all over. I hope to try the other technique in the video that Daria posted at some time too.
The nice thing about this is, not only does it help you get use out of those scraps, but you can create a pattern using whatever colour combo you want, to suit any project, just by careful selection of scraps.

I'm so sorry for the confusion about what Bargello actually is. I had a very narrow definition in my head because I learned it from a quilter. However, when I looked online for examples of Bargello, I saw that there are many patterns.
For a basic definition and traditional patterns, see Wikipedia.
I didn't even know it started out as a style of embroidery! If you scroll down to look at the types, the Flame Stitch is the pattern I learned to do.
Here's a link to Cathy's Bargello Needlework Page. If you scroll down to the bottom, you'll see some links to the left; she has examples of five different Bargello patterns.
When I googled Bargello Patterns, my eyes were really opened. There are tons of variations.
Hopefully, this will answer your questions about what Bargello is. Now, back to having fun!

I combined this challenge with the Little Known Consequences Challenge.
I think using the paper strips if a lot of fun. I am looking forward to perusing the new links about Bargello to get more ideas to use paper scraps. Thanks for hosting!

April, I've made a couple of cards inspired by this challenge. They would not qualify for your challenge so they don't even qualify for my Second Chance Challenge, but I really wanted to make them. If it hadn't been for your challenge, I wouldn't have these cards, and I love the way they turned out.
Thank you.
