Thanks for all the opinions. I did consider all of them. It would have been safest to go with a solid color chair acessorized with pillows but I specifically was choosing furniture so that I didn't have loose pillows or an ottoman/footstool (which is why all of the furniture is some sort of reclining piece). I have a love hate relationship with throw pillows and I decided to hate them at this house.

Anyway, we thought we had our minds made up until we got to the store and looked at the wear pattern on the fabric sample of our first choice (#1 - the floral swirl). The fabric sample didn't wear well so we figured that the chair wouldn't hold up well.

In the end, we decided on one of the fabrics that Pennyring recommended, although in a completely different color than we originally were learning towards. While blue isn't my favorite color, I do have a recent fondness for the bright green that is popular right now. I threw that sample fabric up against the other furniture we were ordering and DH loved it right away.

So, here's what we picked. And we also bought the wine rack. It won't go in the same room, but it will be visible from the family room.

I think that I will be able to find a lot of accessories to bring out pops of color to brighten up the room with this fabric.

--------------------------------------

This is a recliner that we are getting. The style of the recliner is not up for debate. I'm just trying to decide fabric.

Room is open with several windows. The walls will be a neutral khaki color with wide white baseboard. It will be open to the kitchen. Kitchen has espresso cabinets with black granite with green flecks. The flooring is a pretty dark distressed wood. The TV cabinet is black and the other two pieces of furniture are your basic sofa/recliner in a black/brown leather called tobacco (kind of a distressed brown)

We are trying to bring color into the room with this chair and use some of the colors as future accent pieces.

(One of these choices is not in the running but I threw it in there just so if someone thinks I have crappy taste they'll wonder which one I don't like! )

Option 1 - Floral Swirls

Option 2 - Leaves

Option 3 - Circles

For me personally - just me - they all read a little "hotel"-ish, but I think the leaves pattern has the most usable accent colors in it and of the three, it's the one I would pick. Floral swirls would be my second pick and circles would not be in the running at all.

I like the first choice the best. If that's the chair you're getting, it's great! Dh and I almost bought a chair that style last year. Sadly, we didn't have room for it.

I tend to agree, but I think it's the nature of both the chair itself and the fact that I'm looking for a larger overall print rather than something small or solid. It will be the only print in the room and it's a relatively small chair compared to our other pieces.

It's probably not relevant but the leather sofa and recliner both have nailhead trim - so they aren't the big, overstuffed type of arms (although a little).

Fining a print is hard because we want to lighten up our other furniture, but we don't like pastels, blue, or yellow. And while I found some red and cranberry prints that I liked they were just so . . . red.

It is definitely the chair we are getting. We wanted a small scale recliner that doesn't look like a traditional recliner. It will mostly be used for guest seating but we wanted a comfortable chair also. It's main purpose though is to bring some color into an otherwise fairly plain and dark furnished room.

This has actually been really hard because DH and I both really like mission style furniture but our last house was entirely mission style and we made a decision not to go with that this time around. But we aren't falling in love with any other particular style either so it's sort of becoming a process of eliminating anything ultra modern or traditional and leaning toward contemporary but not really . . . .

The floral isn't an option at all for me. I like the circles more than the leaves but I could live with either one.
With the circles I'd go with silvery/pewter, and aqua teal throw pillows and accessories but that's my new colour palatte
The leaves would be awesome with the mossy green, orange and chartreuse accents.

In order of preference:

2-don't love the style of chair but actually like the fabric a lot-looks fresh and high end

3-but something about it--maybe the color palate--looks really dated

1-abomination unto the Lord

Of the three I like the first one best. I would say #3 because it has a light background, but I don't like the pattern.

I like option 1 - Floral Swirls the best. The leaves look a little 70's to me, probably due to the colors used.

I like the first one the best. If you're going to pick up accent colors I think that has the best choices. You also said you wanted a piece that stood out. If you made a small accent pillow in one of those colors for the back of the chair, It would look great. The other prints are too wimpy for my taste. I just don't like the mouse-y colors.

I work with furniture and fabrics for a living and find them all heinous. Sorry.

My absoluste favorite fabric for this chair is:
Trendsetter (D971506) in Manhatten

These are some others I like:
Bayberry (G980489) in Mulberry
Globus in Capri (F-0205934) (G108894)
Esme (H979250)in Grafiti
Greenwich in Wine (J105209)

Trendsetter in Manhatten

That was one I considered but it went too gray for me. Also, for some reason, all I can see are rabbits in it like some sort of hare version of a Rorschach test

Now that I've seen them, I can't unsee them.

I like #3 the best. I think the colors would go well with the dark brown leather in the sofa. I think I would be afraid that #1 would be too dark with the other brown and would defeat the purpose of brightening things up with color. I don't care for #2, but I'm not sure why.

Not just you. For me too.

If your goal is to add color to the room, I'd go with the circles first , and play up the teal/aqua color with your pillows and accents.

With the floral, you only have pink to work with, and the leaf pattern gives you orange and snot green. All of them blech.

So, my first choice, based on the goal of "adding color," is circles, with no second or third choice.

ETA I like the bunny rabbit fabric best.

Thanks for all the opinions.

You've made it even harder.

Part of the problem is that the samples in the store look different than I think they look online. For example, #2 - Leaves has a very yellowish cast to the background. #1 Floral Swirl isn't nearly as pink/purple as it looks - it's more gray and rust although it's still fairly bright rather than muted. #3 wasn't really in the running, but I might take another look at it. (I think DD has some really pretty teal lamps that she might not want to use anymore - )

Oh - and related to the La-Z-Boy thread from last week (Peabay I think?) where they wouldn't let her take samples? We had two La-Z-Boy dealers - one that was within another furniture store and the other one strictly La-Z-Boy - and they both practically forced samples down my throat to take home. Go figure.

I really like 1 & 3 because they have a more contemporary vibe. I am not a fan of florals in general, but #1 really pops for me. I like the circles because I'm really drawn to contemporary geometrics. Fr my own taste, #2 is just too traditional and a little boring. I do like the style of the recliner.

The circles makes me feel sick, dizzy. I like the rabbit one best, then the first one you posted.

You could put a little red throw over the back of the chair to hide the rabbits until you got used to them.
