A recent post about using our stash has prompted me to share my recent change in attitude about the massive collection of scrapbooking supplies I have amassed. And to pose a questions to all you Peas.

I now have such a large amount of scrapbooking tools and supplies that it no longer qualifies as 'stashed'. It requires a room in my house so it really *deserves* a different title.

Also, "stash" some how implies (for me) that it's second-rate...that it's a fall-back, an emergency plan. That hardly motivates me to use it. And I have so much pretty stuff that I WANT to use!

I now try to think of the things I already have as my first option...I am so lucky to have all this pretty stuff just waiting for me...CALLING TO ME to come and make something pretty/inspiring.

But alas, what do you call all this pretty stuff if you don't want to call it STASH?

PEAS: CAN YOU THINK OF A HAPPIER, PRETTIER NAME FOR WHAT USED TO BE MY STASH?!

Collection, perhaps? Treasures? Cache? Stash still sounds better than ",y hoard" or "my junk"!

This brings to mind something I've been wondering too...what do people mean when they say "stash?" To me it means anything I already own (as opposed to buying something specifically for a LO), but other people seem to use it to mean old vs. newer products.

what do people mean when they say "stash?"

To me, it means the items stored in my scrap area, i.e. my entire collection of papercrafting supplies. They could be 10 years old or bought last week. Everything new I buy goes into my 'stash'.

I think 'stash' is a good word that is convenient to use. Pretty? Ummm... nah, not really. But useful.

bluna, maybe you could call your scrapbooking room a studio and your stash your scrapbooking/papercrafting collection?

Great post!

"stash" some how implies (for me) that it's second-rate

I don't think of my "stash" as 2nd rate...but then again I don't refer to it as "stash" either.

Collection has a nice ring to it but that reminds me of something you collect, not something you'd use.

I think Scrap Pantry says it best!

Again, great post!!! Makes us think about using up our pantry items!

I might be boring but I usually call it my 'studio/art supplies', or more commonly my 'art stuff', which is probably about as bad as stash I guess.

I don't have a studio at the moment and haven't done 'art' so to speak for a long time, but it kinda stuck.

It's my stuff.

I still love it. I have some really (REALLY) old paper and stickers. I just haven't figured out how to use them yet.

They're crayons in my crayon box to me. The older they are, the rarer they are.

Besides, with everybody doing all this layering, I just have so much trouble buying an expensive piece of double-sided paper to have such a tiny amount of only the boring side show. Surly I have something already that can be used and mixed in with some fun new stuff.

Wow. Looky there. I do!

Yeah, that.

Useful term when saying 'don't touch my stuff!'.

A pantry is a room or closet. (Neither of which I have.) So it wouldn't apply to the stuff you're calling your stash.

If you really want to rename your stuff you could call it your objets d'art.

I like the word stash. To me "stash" implies a secret as in my [secret] stash. It contains treasures I don't want others to know about because they would covet them and use them up. Only the good stuff is work putting in my stash of loveliness. I give away the stuff not worth keeping.

So, no alternate words have been pondered for the trove of happiness in my "hidey hole" (aka craft room/home office)

I like both "Scrap Treasures" and "Scrap Pantry". But since only a tiny percentage of Peas have seen this thread, most won't know what we're talking about if we call it anything other than "stash".

Besides, when does a Stash (smaller collection) move to Pantry (rivals LSS) level?

It's interesting that 'stash' is the word people don't like. I think 'scrap' has a more negative meaning. Scraps have always been the bits and pieces you throw away, the rubbish. But in scrapbooking it has a totally different meaning and I think stash has a different meaning in crafting also. So I'm fine using stash.

Perhaps all the mustashes on papers and things lately have been subliminal messages that we need more (mu)stash!

I say supplies and collection. I only use stash when I'm answering questions about "Your stash" here. Stash seems to be used negatively here like you are stashing away something and my stuff is out in the open. Nothing is hidden away dh and family sees it all.
