I have been slowly using them for Kids birthday cards and finally working on my MIL album of her grandson's first 5 years. I used Mrs G border stickers and QVC kit Sue dreamer for the tree sticker. I even used Rub-ons. Anyone remember those? I figured all the stuff am not really into will make great album gifts for those who don't SB.

let me know what you think

I'm not sure I could motivate myself to use stuff I didn't like even if it was for others. But good for you if you can

I think if you think your MIL will like it then why not. I made a couple of pages for my mothers album out of stuff I wouldn't dream of using now...think Karen Foster Designs Paper but she absolutely loved them and it's not that they were bad pages just a bit outdated. I think the page is fine, especially since you know your MIL doesn't scrapbook.

I think if I liked something enough to buy it then I will use it. I don't scrap in order so the new and old stuff is mixed together. I also believe you can make anything look good if you put in some effort. I am enjoying the stash busters challenge each week headed up by ScrapNatya. Just my 2cents.

Mookie how to I join the stash challenge every week? I found the Stash challenge gallery but it was only for the people who uploaded their LO's.

She post a new challege every Tueday...I think. Here is the link. She gives you promps to follow and then you upload your layouts and link them to your posts on the message board. Is that clear as mud? LOL! Stash Buster Challenge

It really is getting me to use my stash and actually get some layouts done.

There is a thread posted on this board with the prompts each week. Sometimes you have to go to the second or third page to find it. The prompts will be in the OP, there are usually five to choose from. After you make a page, you just upload your page to the regular gallery, click the "Stash Busters" challenge box when you get to the challenge page. Then post on the thread with a link to your project. I like to check out the projects other people have linked to see how others interpreted the challenges too.

It's beautiful. In my opinion, the way a supply is used matters much more than its age - and you used your supplies wonderfully!

I agree that a nice page is a nice page; the age of the supplies does not matter. Keep up the good work!

Nice job! I use rub-ons all the time, I've consistently bought them with collections throughout all the years I've scrapbooked. I like your logic - people who scrapbook will never even know it's old, they'll just appreciate the thought behind the gift.

Thank you ladies. The in-laws are divorced and don't live even close to us. They have only seen the little ones once (hard for them both to get around) and so I am making them for Mothers DAy and Fathers day.

Thank you all for the nice compliments. I do try to put effort into whatever I make even if it is from the old stash.

I really like your LO. Love that Christmas tree. Good for you for using old stuff from your stash.
About a year ago I realized that I could not bring myself to use supplies I don't like anymore. I had kept them because 1. I used to like them and 2. I didn't want to feel guilty about wasting my money. So there they sat until I realized that some of the made me sad (blacks and browns together are a very depressing combination to me) and some of them looked so ugly to me. That's when I decided to give them all away. Now all my papers in my collection are papers I love and will use. It makes a huge difference in my motivation.

Good for you! I think your l/o is great and your mil will love it. I don't think supplies are ever outdated; you can just find new ways to use them. And I remember some of the Sue Dreamer items - I think I have a package of cat stickers by her. Cute stuff. Maria

Like your page!! Good job. I don't think it looks outdated at all. I'm sure both of in-laws will love it.

I'm a "simple" scrapper and like that style even if it isn't the current trend. I'm currently trying to use up my old stash. My next step is to get out of my safety zone and explore using more of the new concepts!

Great job using your older things! I agree with what other posters have said - doesn't matter how old something is, it's the purpose and way you use it. You've inspired me to dig into some of my older stash and see what I can come up with.

And thanks to those who posted about the stash challenges - thinking I'd like to jump in on those.

ITA with that ^^^. You've done an awesome job using your stash. If you hadn't said it was older stuff I wouldn't have known. I love finding ways to morph my old product into new product.

Sometimes you have to look beyond it's intended use to see what kind of new mileage you can get out of it.

Great job!! Hope you'll post more layouts using older stuff.

I just used rub-ons on a page last month. I have no problems mixing my old stuff with my new stuff, the paper I used rubons with was Echo Park I bought in December.

I really like your LO and I wouldn't have known it was old stuff if you hadn't said so.

I make mini books, cards, etc., for family and friends all of the time. Often I use things more than 5 years old. No one has ever said, "Oh, I would have loved it, but those papers you used are from 6 years ago. I'm sorry, you'll have to take it back."

Only scrapbookers who keep up with the latest supplies would know that it was 'older' supplies. I think it doesn't matter how old it is as long as you like the final result

I'm a big fan of using older supplies. Last week I used a piece of paper that I bought when I first started scrapbooking. It felt good to get it out of my stash.

Nice job. It looks great!

I mix old and new stuff all the time. As long as I like it, then I'll put it on my page, and sometimes the older stuff can look better with my photos. If I don't like it, then it has probably been given to my daughter to craft with.

Good on you, I mix it up, especially with the current layering fashion, I wouldn't want to put too much new stuff on a layout at the current prices that isn't completely seen so I am holding onto everything in the hope that I can use it on a layout.

I did however at Christmas sort through my Yuletide stash and binned stuff that I couldn't see going on anything (an excuse to do some Christmas shopping next Christmas too)

I have a bunch of the alphas you used, if they are outdated it's a big "Oh Well"

I often use some of my 8 1/2x11 as a layer on top of my layout. Why is that different than cutting a 'new' piece down?

If it looks (and feels) good - DO IT!!!

I shop several EXPO a year and have a large stash, I mix and used everything together. I never worry about something being old or dated. As for rub-ons they are still current I see them all the time in new collections. I use them a lot when appropriate and they work. I love your Los! You are very good with color and patterns balance. Keep up the wonderful work of sharing your talent with your family, it is going to be so appreciated.

I think your page is lovely...very simple and to the point and I'm sure the inlaws will LOVE that photo.

I just came across some old paper yesterday; forget the manufacturer, but the collections were named after rooms in your house. I pulled some cardstock to match and stuck it into one of my "kit" holders (12x12 poly envelope)...so now it's not packed away in storage but in the rotation for use! Lots of florals and stripes so I'm sure I can use it on almost anything having to do with my two girls, or my hikes in the mountains, or the 5 million pictures I take of rainbows/storm clouds/etc. over the mountains.

7 years to get here... So now what?

Old stock vs new stock has always baffled me?!?!?!

If you like/love the paper & embellishments...knock your sox off & use them!

Who on this earth will ever know what year the items were made or created?

I don't think I've bought any new release SB supplies since early 2011 & I still love my stash.

I don't see what's so outdated about your layout. Except for maybe the little red letters I could not tell you what's new and what's old. Sometimes it seems so snobby to me when people say they won't use 'old' stuff. Whatever. I would rather use old supplies that go with my layout than trying to find something new every time I want to scrap.

But if you have the money and you have the inclination, do what you want with your money. I wish scrappers would stop asking for validation about using perfectly good scrap supplies for what they were meant for - scrapping.

I have done the same thing. My MIL doesn't know that the supplies are a few years old or 10 years old as long as the pages look cute and have pictures of her grandkids that is all she cares about.

I have purged the stuff I truly don't like but most of the stuff I have around I do still like and would use. I often mix in the older stuff with some newer stuff and figure why not as long as it looks good together - a few years ago I used some old slide mounts - remember those - she thought it was such a cute idea.

Your page is cute by the way and I am sure she will love it. I saw keep using the older stuff as long as you enjoy it.

Looks great and I don't see it as being out of date

I have heard from many non-scrappers that they tend to like simpler better than lots of product like many scrappers like

I love to mix old and new.
