Do you have a typewriter that you use for journaling? I have thought about getting one to use for my PL, but thought that they were no longer being made and that I would have to look for an old used one. Then today, I saw where someone said that they bought theirs at Office Depot. Soooooo, I looked. Sure enough, they still sell them. I just may order one. I had been thinking about using digital journaling cards and printing them out, but ink can get expensive. A typewriter will be a good solution.
**UPDATE** and just like that, my new typewriter has arrived. I can't believe how much lighter it is than the one we used when I went to school, many years ago and it types great. I have to run an errand and then I am planning to start journaling. I tried it out and found out quickly how easy it is to correct mistakes. lol. I won't say how long ago I used a typewriter in school, but back then we had to use a little eraser to remove mistakes. With this one, you just backspace and hit the "Correct" button. Mistake gone. Love it. This little machine is going to be well worth the $105 that it cost and Amazon quick, free delivery on the Prime plan is wonderful. |

I hope I have one! I got one when I was in high school but haven't seen it for years. Hubby said he put it up in the garage. He's told me for weeks that he would go out and get it for me but he hasn't. It's up in the rafters so I can't go try to find it myself. |

I now own 2. One electric and one is a manual. I picked them up at estate sales. The electric one I paid $7.50 and the manual one I paid $15.00. Both typewriters were well cared for in excellent condition. I use them for journaling my PL album. Ribbons are still available for both. I am on the hunt for a cursive typewriter. | |

Office Depot has these typewriters starting at about $109. That is not to bad.
I had no idea that they still made typewriters. I know a lot of people were looking for them at yard sales and estate sales. Maybe manufacturers got wind that scrapbookers were using them and decided to start producing them again. |

I picked up a manual typewriter from maybe the early 60's from a thrift store for around 10 dollars. It works great an has the vintage look which I love. |

I just went ahead and ordered a new one from Amazon. The price ($105) is not to bad for a new electric typewriter. I figured that it would take a lot of time and effort to try to locate a used one and with Amazon, it is just a couple of clicks and it will be here by Wednesday.

I just had to reply to say the thought of using a typewrite for scrapping makes me giggle. I remember when I put my typewriter away, I was so glad to not think of using correction liquid stuff anymore. I loved all the new fonts available & they didn't have that typewriter look.
Now, I just want my hubby to dig my typewriter out of the garage so I can use it while making my scrapbooks!! Too Funny! |

I have a vintage Royal from the 40's,that I purchased from an antique shop & I also have a turquoise one from the 60's that belonged to my dad. They both work perfect & I have used them for scrapbook journaling for years. It's easier to type up a journaling spot, rather than print it off the computer & it looks really cool!
I almost forgot, I also have a really beautiful old vintage typewriter, that was my Grandmother's. |

I love my typewriter!! It's an electric Smith Corona that I found last year for $20 at an estate sale- score!!
There's a typewriter store here in the Phoenix Valley (article about the Mesa Typewriter Exchange store) so I can even buy ribbon locally for it, or get it serviced if need be. (so far the only thing it's needed is a good dusting, knock on wood.)
Our home printer isn't working right now, plus it's a bit of a pain to switch out the paper, etc. so for me, getting the typewriter was a good option. If I want something typed on a particular piece of paper, I can just tape a small piece of that paper to a sheet of typing paper and I'm good to go.
Plus, it's just cool! 
ETA: I would LOVE a cursive typewriter!!

My mom gave it to me last year for Mother's Day. I bought a replacement ribbon for it. I don't think it works 100% as it should, but I do love it. Way way easier and cooler looking than computer printing. |

I stalked ebay and craigslist for a vintage typewriter and finally found an aqua one for about $50.00. I use it all the time though so definitely worth it! Sure you can get the same "typewriter" look on a regular printer with the right font, but it's so fun to clackity-clack away on a typewriter! |

I still have the manual typewriter I used in high school and college up in the attic. I graduated from high school in 1978.
You couldn't pay me to use it again for anything much less scrapbooking! Being forced to use it for typing term papers in college was enough. It was a manual so the only way to fix mistakes was to use white out or erasable paper (which always seemed to smear everywhere). I was so happy to no longer have to use it when I left college.
I can understand the charm it might have for younger Peas, but for this Pea I'll stick with my computer keyboard and printer or handwriting.

Using the computer is great if you are using digital journaling cards. You just pull up your journaling card in what ever program that you are using, journal on it and print it off. But if you are doing traditional scrapbooking, you can't do that unless you scan it in first and then print it off. With a typewriter, you can pop in the card, type on it and stick it in your book. |

I'm with Debbie in MD on this one. The electric typewriter I got in college is still in the garage. Won't be hauling it out any time soon. I don't use premade journaling spots, though. Printable or those I create. So filling them out with "typewriter" font wouldn't be hard. Not a look I use very often, anyway. | |

Oh yeah, typewriters are great. I have an older one I bought for $10 on Craigslist. Works perfect! I wish I could put a 12x12 piece of paper through it though, but mine only takes up to 9 inches. | |

Yes. The main reason I use it, even more than because I like the look and it's easy to type on PL cards, is because I'm on the computer 50+ hours a week for work and do not want to use it for scrapbooking.

We have a vintage one which works more or less as it should. I'm hoping to find a way of accommodating it into my craft area but I want to be able to balance typing with handwriting. Much as I hate my handwriting I feel I need to include some. |

I have a vintage typewriter I found at an antique store ... around 70 dollars later found out it was valued at a significantly higher amount. It even came with two ink rolls. I see also of antique typewriters online and it seems you can still find the ink easily. |

I just bought an electric one off craigslist for $5. It works great and came with ribbon. Also verified that Amazon sells the ribbons $10/2 pack so it won't be pricey going forward.

I like using my typewriter instead of a computer font/printer because it's very easy to format my typing and fit on a card, journalling spot, label, etc.

I have a typewriter that I found at my husband's family business that was not being used, but I find it hard to print everything out perfectly (there's no way to fix an error once it's typed0. I prefer to use my printer and print in a typewriter font. Jill Sprott did a great video demo of how to do it. I'll go look for it. |

Last year I bought an electric one from Office Max. I occasionally wanted to type out journaling on cards, but didn't want to have the hassle of sizing it on the computer and doing the double printing (especially since I was sharing a computer at that point). I would have loved an old manual one, but honestly, the ability to correct typing mistakes has been awesome.
When I brought it home, DH looked at it and said, "didn't I just buy you an iPad?" Two different things, honey, two different things. | |

I would LOVE to own one. I have been looking at Typewritters online everywhere for the past few months and really want to get my hands on one. I myself am a traditional scrapbooker (and 25) so I didn't have to deal with typewritters throughout school so they don't annoy me, if anything I always thought they were awesome in that vintage way. Putting whatever you want to journal on right in a typewritter rather than in the printer and then have to re-run it through the printer....it's just time consuming so yes, I would love to get a typewritter and see one in my future  | |

I'd love to have a little typewriter, too. I'm a 100% traditional scrapbooker and having to use a computer completely destroys my crafting mojo (never mind the fact that I have a printer that's sat for four years without ink and is never used...) It would be great to be able to pop in a journaling card and just type away. Yes, mistakes happen but that's true in handwriting, too and I deal with that LO by LO so I have no fears about it happening with a typewriter.

The one that I ordered from Amazon yesterday is on its way and will be here tomorrow. It has been a long, long, long time since I used one, but I am excited about putting it to use. I like the idea of a typewriter for quick & easy journaling on cards, but my space is limited and it wouldn't be able to be out all the time. I know I am way to lazy to drag out a typewriter to do some journaling when I could just quickly write it with a pen, so I am sure it would never see the light of day in my scrap area. |

I use word ..type the text on a regular 8.5 x 11 piece of paper in word align it up correctly place my journaling card on a 8.5x11 printer paper adhered with a piece of washi and print right on to it.. It's accutaly quite easy and I'm not limited to one type of front! I believe amy heller or ali Edwards had a tutorial on this once! I guess I look at buying a typewritter to just do something I can already do would take up more space in my house that I don't have LOL I do however think that the vintage typewriters are adorable & if I hade the room I would defiantly invest in one!!! |

I have one from around 1910-1920 and it is so very pretty to look at, but you really have to HIT each key really HARD to get the letters down! Ugh! I need a more modern one! Now looking for a cute thing from the'60s.

Cause I can see my husband's face now bringing that in the house...until I get my scrapbook room (I have a closet now) I don't have room for it. At the time I bought my typewriter, to do it on the computer, I would have had to stop scrapping, go kick one of the kids of the computer, play around with spacing and such, print, check, adhere, print, go back and get back in the groove. I don't have that kind of patience. Typing it takes a minute or 2. Now that I have my own computer, yeah, I could do it, but for something that a plain font works for, I still head to the typewriter.
Today, I used the typewriter to type some journaling that had different margins to accommodate being partially tucked behind other pieces of paper. Took me 3 minutes to lightly pencil border lines, go type, and erase the pencil lines. I guarantee it would have taken me a lot longer on a computer, but I tend to suck at stuff like gauging space and size on the computer. | |
