|Posted: 2/11/2013 7:09:43 PM|Anyone else love Panera?? I love it and have been going there for years. One of my favorite things has always been their French Onion soup. However, they recently changed it to the "All Natural Bistro French Onion Soup" and I don't like it. Ick. I've already written to them asking them to bring back their original French Onion soup. Just wondering if anyone else felt the same way?? Here's their new description from their website:
All-Natural Bistro French Onion
Sweet onions simmered in a traditional savory broth that has been accented with a classic sherry wine vinegar gastrique and a blend of sea salts. Topped with Gruyere and Asiago croutons.

That is how I felt when they changed their chicken noodle soup. I still won't order it. Not even close to as good anymore.

I agree it really is awful. DH's cousin works there and said someone complains about it almost every day. Hopefully they will take the hint.

Panera's food has gone down hill! I had a chicken pesto panini and it had 4 strips of chicken on it. When I asked the cook why there was such a lack of chicken she said, "it all comes prepackaged in a bag and that is what is in there". Really - a bag?? Not fresh at all.

I almost ordered this when I was there last Saturday but I ordered the chicken and rice instead. Good to know, maybe ill skip it next time.
Last year they had this chili that was so good, I'm waiting for that to come back!

We just had panera over the weekend, and I got the turkey artichoke sandwich (my usual). First off, I think I had 4 onion pieces on the whole sandwich, second they use fresh spinach instead of cooked, which is fine, but not what I was expecting, and I don't think there was an artichoke on the whole sandwich. Sorely disappointed, especially considering that lunch cost us $22 dollars!
|Posted: 2/11/2013 10:01:56 PM|I had the onion soup a couple weeks ago and thought it was yucky (sorry for the grown-up word). I also paid through the nose for one of their super premium salads, which was served with half-raw, stringy bacon. So, I took the salad back and asked them to replace it with the Thai chicken salad instead. Really wasn't what I wanted, but if that was the best they could do with the bacon, I didn't feel like I had much choice. They didn't offer to refund the difference in cost, either.

I think the quality of their food has really gone downhill while the prices have gone up. I would rather go to a place and be waited on for the same price.

Oh no, that's one of the things I always get there. That's disappointing.
I haven't been happy with them for a while, as it seems they have really shrunk their portion sizes. Their "Pick 2" with the sandwich seems more like a quarter of a sandwich than a half.

I was in there yesterday morning and they didn't have any spinach artichoke souffles. Okay, is the crying smiley too much?
I think their quality has slipped over the last year. I usually go in there once a week or so to sit and work for a few hours. It's usually quiet in the morning, but the last few months it's been dead.

The only thing I order there anymore is their broccoli cheddar soup. I really like a couple of their salads, but they are so dang expensive.
DH and I will occasionally go there for their bagels... which I still love. But, we go to a specific Panera because the other one near us makes bagels that are about 1/2 the size.
|Posted: 2/12/2013 8:36:09 AM|I was thinking this the other day - their food quality had gone downhill. I used to love to get the black bean soup, but now it just looks like black ick. Not even anywhere near appealing to look at. And we also order a panini, which came straight from the microwave, not the griddle.

I had it just the other day because I had $1 off a bowl of soup on my Panera card. I thought it was very good! One thing I have had recently was the grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich for breakfast. It's on the kid's menu and I loved it!

I really like it. The old one was so damn salty most of the time. This one has actual flavor. I go once a week with a group and it is packed that night with families, groups, etc. I still love it there.
I'm glad someone else felt this way. DH and I went for dinner the other night and had the French Onion Soup as part of the Pick 2. We both were saying that the soup was really good and had more flavor than usual. We didn't realize it was a new recipe, but we really liked it and the old formula was one of our favorites.
