I just had a thought--I think the serial killer's wife might actually be one of his followers. Has this prediction been made and I missed it?

Tonight's show was...disturbing.

And for me, that would really be jumping the shark. Yikes.

That would be a shocker and a bit too much. I'm sure we're going to find some shocking followers along the way, but hopefully not that!

I actually think this show is getting better--I wasn't sure what I thought about it after the first episode. The only thing that drives me crazy is that I think the FBI are made to look like buffoons. As someone mentioned before, only ONE FBI agent guarding Maggie, especially considering Ryan had some doubts about her? Ryan has only one living family member, his sister, and no one is watching out for her, especially after the main serial killer guy tells Ryan that he has "many surprises in store for him". I don't know; just doesn't make sense.

I think it's getting worse, not better. It's a good premise, but it's played out so implausibly even for a t.v. show, and the characters seem to all have become so campy, which would be fine but I don't think that's what they're going for. And Kevin Bacon was never a great looker, but yikes! I guess I'm done with it

If the wife is a follower, that would be a big F U to the audience, but hey, why not?

I was thinking during the last episode those followers with the kid should just have a threesome and get it over with. Oops, be careful what you wish for. Ugh.

I just can't help seeing the similarities between this Joe and Red John from The Mentalist. I find Red John a more compelling character because he is secret.

I also see a lot of similarities between the relationship of Ryan and Joe with the relationship of Will Graham to Hannibal Lecter. Both FBI agents sought out experts who ended up being the killers they were searching for and then trying to kill them.

Is this show doing well in the ratings? I can't imagine this could go for more than a season or two without losing steam and getting even more over the top.

I think one of his followers is the young FBI agent who knows about Ryan's drinking problem. I have my suspicions about the wife but I am leaning toward a "no" on her. My DH and I are really enjoying this show!

I have my suspicions about the wife and the young FBI guy but I also have my eye on the FBI lady. A couple of weeks ago when she brought Joe the book at the jail they just had a look at each other that was odd. She kind of grinned at him in a way that both dh and I noticed and at the same time we yelled at the TV "UH OH".
Love this show by the way.

I mentioned to a friend last night that I thought the ex-wife was in on it. The flashback showed Ryan telling her about the special bond he and his sister have, and then blam! Crazy targets the sister.

It's nothing but a soap opera. A beautifully filmed, costumed and acted soap opera. And I love it!

Didn't Ryan write a book though after the case? I was assuming that it was maybe covered in there.

I'm liking it. Realistic or not...I guess I can suspend some belief and allow myself to get into the storyline. But when I find myself actually watching without multi-tasking, then I know I'm into it...and I don't multi-task during this show!

My suspicions are on young FBI guy and FBI woman (who gave the book).

Is there a missing post? I don't see what this response is referring to. And yes, he wrote a book.

Normally I proofread my posts! I accidentally posted a quote from a Downton Abbey thread.

When I mentioned Bacon's character writing a book, I was responding to this:

I mentioned to a friend last night that I thought the ex-wife was in on it. The flashback showed Ryan telling her about the special bond he and his sister have, and then blam! Crazy targets the sister.

I was posing the book thing as a possibility as to why the followers might know about Ryan's life--he may have included that in the book.

Didn't mean to confuse everyone!

I've only seen one episode so far. Some of it is disturbing and I am admittedly a wuss. For example (SPOILER MAYBE), I didn't need to see the girl victim (can't remember her name) fall down from the ceiling with her eyes carved out. Are there a lot of scenes like that in the next three episodes? I have them DVR'd but haven't watched because I really don't like that kind of stuff...

That's OK! Thank you! It was just that your comment didn't go with what you quoted so I'm easily confused!

On the main topic: Definitely "jump the shark" time. If everyone we meet turns out to be a "follower" this show will really turn out to suck! LOL!

There is just NOTHING that can make me believe this woman who was betrayed by her husband (She thought he was a college English professor and meanwhile HE KILLED 14 WOMEN!) would ultimately become his "follower". No way! We'd have to believe she was in on it all along, when he was killing the first 14, and what evidence would there be of that? How powerful is this psycho-creep??
