I was in the sil store today looking for a basic star shape. I found a nested set of stars and purchased it because I thought, "oh good! This will have several sizes of stars that I need" Well duh, when I opened the file to cut it, you can take any of those stars and resize them to any size you want. I was thinking about them likes dies and not computer shapes. So what is the purpose of the nesting shapes in the store because there are several different shapes to chose from and I don't want to miss out on something that I "need"! TIA!!

probably just make it easy so you don't have to resize and the sizes stay consistent for nesting...maybe?? that would be the only reason I can think of

Funny stuff huh? I did the same thing. Guess it takes a while for us to think differently after using dies.

I love the images and I am thrilled with the Silhouette. Have fun and enjoy it.

I have done the same thing! I try to look for groups of shapes that have different shapes, not just sizes. I have a set of 9 arrows and they are all different.

I too have some if the nesting shapes, duh on me too!

I think the reason some designers make nesting shapes is so you can cut out a "frame" in that shape. They are sized proportionally so you don't have to do it yourself. There are some shapes that you can't just scale up or down and get the correct proportions to create a frame. Letters and stars come to mind.
Trust me I've tried.

Sounds like we have all done the same thing!

But I also think that the nesting shapes would make it easy for a new user to get consistent, well spaced shapes without needing to know about the Offset shapes function.

Sometimes, grabbing the corner and just resizing can give you wonky results. However, if you use the offset feature, the results are much better.

Use the offset tool. It'll make a smaller shape inside the shape you've selected, at any size, while maintaining the same center point.
