If you've purchased one from Ikea, will it fit in the back of a mini van? I'm looking at either the 16 cube or the 25. I'd hate to drive 3 hours and not be able to get it home!

|Posted: 2/13/2013 8:03:20 AM|It'll fit. I have the 5x5 Expedit and I got it home in a teeny little VW. You'll still be able to throw a party in your minivan.
It comes as a long, narrow box. ETA: ooh, from posters below it looks like it is multiple boxes now. That would be sensible as it was crazy heavy in one box!

With the seats down. It's about six feet long (if you get the five cube one). The 5x5 cube one comes in four HEAVY boxes. We fit ours easily into the back of our Mazda 9, but that was with the seats down.

Mine went into the back of an old Ford Explorer, without any issues. I did fold down the back seats.

ETA: we will have my son's car seat on one side but will be able to fold down the seat on the other side. Will it still work?

Yes, the boxes are less than 2 feet wide, so you can stack them on one side. Have fun! I love mine!

I think the IKEA site gives you the dimensions of the boxes. But, yes ... a girlfriend and I trekked to IKEA in Minneapolis in a rented mini-van and returned, with all rear seats out of the way, with 4 8-cube style Expedits (with a bunch of other crap!)

You need to check the dimensions of the boxes. We went by the height of the Expedits and ended up having to take the one that we picked up, out of the box to get it in the car. We had Ikea deliver the bigger ones because they would have never fit. I think that it was the 5x5 that we picked up and put it in a Toyota Camry, with the back seat down. There is padding both ends of the box, that make it longer than the unit. Congrats on your new Expedit. You are going to love it.

I have the largest and got it home in my mini van with no problem. Yes, multiple boxes. Flip the seats down and you will be good to go.

You can go the ikea.com and get the measurements of the boxes and then measure your vehicle.

The expedit boxes fit in
the back of the GMC Acadia so I'm sure if you just flip the seats down in a mini-van you'll be fine.
Actually it was boxes for a 16 cube expedit, an 8 cube expedit, and a desk.
Our old minivan was way bigger in back than the Acadia- I say 'go for it'!

Don't need to measure anything. I got a 4X4 in the back of my Prius, and I didn't have to put the seats down.

Make sure to check it all out before you get home. I drove just 1 hour to get mine and had to return it the next day, because it had a crack in it.

I've transported many of them in my 4-Runner or dd's Scion xB.
But they're HEAVY when boxed up--we had employees load them at IKEA and we took the pieces out of the box and carried them upstairs that way.

This is all good to know so that I can get my daughters (2 of them) who own mini vans to help me when our new IKEA opens in 2014. I am so excited about being able to buy the expedit and all the other goodies I have drooled over these past many years.

I have seen many an Expedit loaded into a minivan, however, not all minivans are created equal! Some of the shorter wheelbase models may require you to have it extend between the front two seats. And if you do not have split seats, you will lose the seating in both back rows.

I fit mine in a C-rv with just the middle seat piece folded down and my kids sitting in booster seats on either side. Plus I bought other stuff. It is heavy - I made the Ikea staff stick it in the car and my husband take it in the house. Then I took it up to my attic piece by piece.
