Yesterday after school my daughter and I went to Target. We were in the
hair tie aisle and while she was looking I noticed this family (I am an avid people watcher!) The mom and daughter were looing at the hair dryers, the dad picked up a hair brush and brushed his hair and the proceeded to brush his beard and then the put the brush back on the rack and walked away! What?? I just stood there with my mouth hanging open. Really!!!

I took a napkin out of my purse and picked up the brush, found an employee and told her what I just saw. What is with people???

A napkin is a bit much I think for me.

People are nuts! I agree with that.

Agreed. I don't think I ever would have thought to wash a hair brush first until now.

Agreed, gross...

But the real thing I want to know is...

When did Alaska get Target? One of the things I missed up there!

I wash hair clips I buy at CVS just because I figure it's been on the floor and has dust on it. If you think about it your hairdresser uses the same comb/brush on everyone. It doesn't always go into that sterile blue jar.

Oh my word. It has never occurred to me that I need to wash a new hairbrush. People are so weird!

I was in the grocery store once and saw someone taking the lids off the ice creams and looking. Thank goodness they weren't licking them!

We have often asserted and we affirm it yet again that no fact in history is better attested than the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It must not be denied by any who are willing to pay the slightest respect to the testimony of their fellow men. That Jesus, who died upon the cross, and was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, did literally rise again from the dead. (excerpted from Dance Your Shoes Off, Second Baptist Church)

That's pretty gross.

On the person looking inside the icecream lid, I always check the cottage cheese lids when I buy it... but they have a protective plastic layer you have to peel off. People always look at me like I'm nuts, but I want to make sure the plastic hasn't been peeled back already (it's happened to me a few times) and I hate to throw it away as soon as I get home without getting to eat it!

That may be true, but of all people, the hairdresser would know if that brush NEEDED to be sterilized after use on a certain customer. It's not exactly the same thing as buying a brand-new brush and expecting, well, a brand-new brush!

I see this happening all the time. Go in Ulta or Sephora and you'll see people using all kinds of product and then placing it back on the shelf.

That long? It seems like only last week when my sister (Chugiak) was complaining about not having a Target. Time flies.

When my dd worked at Victoria Secrets they had to throw away product after a guy came in and tried on ladies underpants. She said you couldn't refuse to let him try them on. Glad to know they put them in the trash at least.

It happens all the time. Go to buy a new brush there is human hair on it. The staff just pick it off. So always disinfect brushes before use.

What gets me is people who try every brush before buying the first one they picked up.

They threw them away? Was he dirty or something? The story makes no sense. Guys try on ladies undies all the time. There is a huge fetish and cross dressing market if the undies were chucked every time a male customer went into a store the shop would loose thousands.

Unless you saw her actually throw it away, I'm betting as soon as you left, employee put it back on the shelf. I've never even thought to wash a new hairbrush, but I might now. I have seen a lot worse in the stores though.

It's funny you brought that up.. I don't buy brushes very often, I mean next to never.. I keep what I have forever and ever.. (I do clean it once and awhile) but I did break down and was looking at them and it crossed my mind.. how would I really really know if I like it or not without trying it out. WHICH I didn't because then that grossed me out even thinking about trying it out (and not because someone else did), but I wasn't about to try it out and put it back on the shelf and that next person wouldn't like that.. lol.. I just kept thinking I hoped I picked a good one.

The part that grossed me out the most was when he brushed his beard with it! God only knows what was in his beard! He could have been storing food for a snack!!

Funny that this story should come up now. I bought a new hairbrush at Target this past Sunday while shopping there with my mother-in-law. I looked at several and then kind of ran my fingers over the one I like best to see if the bristles were pliable enough. Only to discover that there was hair in the brush - ewww.

This particular brush was wired into the packaging with twist ties and did not appear to have been opened (based on the way the twist ties looked) so I'n not sure how someone managed to brush his/her hair with it anyway. But I put it back and selected another just like it from the BACK of the display. And, yes, I washed it when I got home... just in case. Lol.

I buy my hairbrushes at the beauty supply store for this reason. They're often wrapped in plastic and I've yet to find one with a hair on it.

Gross!

I like to buy products like that from the back of the display.

Magazines too. It's not gross exactly, but I just want my magazines to be Vivian's when I take them home. Is that so wrong?

Yuck. My head is very sensitive and I often buy a brush and then don't like it. But never once have I ever considered touching said brush to my head before buying. I bet I'd have said something to him.

A couple of weeks ago, this happened to DH -- he bought cottage cheese to eat with some chili I had made. The plastic was opened.

DH neeeeeeeevvvvver checks stuff before he buys it. (He also never checks the bag before leaving a fast-food drive-thru, but that's another thread ...) We returned the cottage cheese with no problem.

I cannot IMAGINE trying out a brush in the store before buying it. That would never even have occurred to me. People are so weird.

I've never thought to do that and I agree it's gross. OTOH, I recently brought an expensive brush, that I can't even use on my head because my scalp is very sensitive. I'm not sure what to do with it now.
