The minute you get her, go get a Parvo test! I have a 15 week old puppy I adopted a week ago who is in "Puppy ICU" fighting for her life. She seemed totally healthy and went into a dire state in less than 12 hours!

My girl chocolate lab is named Cookie. The 2 dogs that live behind us are Zoe and Sadie. We also have a Bella and Penny that live on our street. |

Thank you so much for all of your suggestions!! I was driving dh crazy last night throwing out names. Even though it was his idea to foster her, I said I have to give her a name.
The only name he will not shoot down so far is Layla! He finally asked me to stop the rapid fire name yelling and wait and see if we even get her.
Shih tzu mommie. That is awful. I have already told him she needs a clean bill of health from them BUT I do not know how reliable a shelter is so if we get her she will go straight to our vet to be checked out. My 8 year old cavalier might not like a new furry thing in our house that brings some disease with her!!
If by chance we get her this weekend, I will put a pic up. If I could figure out how to get the pic off their Facebook page I would show you all. You would then see why we decided to get her.
My dh was holding his phone with her picture, moving it like she was dancing and said to me, " Now picture Sara McGloughin (sp?) singing.". Hahahahah | |

My kids are Justin, Josh and Jenn. My dogs are Jake and Jazzy. Jazzy so i could say Justin, Josh, Jenn, Jake and all that Jazz . Jazzy is the perfect name for her. She is relatively large at 73 pounds. |

Our first dog came with the name Princess (try telling a 3 yo little girl we were changing the name). Our current dog is named Rilee. That was the name dh wanted to change Princess' name to. So when we got a new dog, we named her Rilee. |

Our girl is named Bob. She's an Australian Cattle Dog with a bobbed tail. We didn't know she was a girl (we were just visiting her at the shelter and didn't bother to look) and my daughter said she should be called Bob. We ended up adopting her, and even though we knew she was a girl, we kept her named Bob. |

Our dog is named Krystal...she was named by 2 eight year olds. Apparently, it was very popular among kids in 2004. We also know several cats and a hamster with the same name. |

well, my advice is to not give your dog a human name! We have a "Molly" and one of my closest friends has a daughter named Molly. Makes for awkward play dates when I yell at the dog and the kid thinks I'm yelling at her!  We have 3 human Mollys in our life, all younger than our 13 year old dog. I'll never give a dog a human name again.

My baby girl is Muttless.
We found her roaming the streets. I took her to 3 vets in our town to find out what they thought her mix was. All 3 times I just kept hearing, she's just a mutt. So on our way home from the last vet I looked at her and said, they keep telling us "you're just a mutt, you're just a mutt". So I called her Muttless, and it stuck. |

Probably not a good name for you (I'm sure!) but something that brings back good memories for me.
We got our wonderful Lhasa Apso from the shelter and my now 23 year old was only 6 or so at the time. For some reason she was under the impression that all dogs were boys and all cats were girls. I have no idea where she got that from.
Anyway, she took one look at the sweet little dog and called her Smooshed Face Melvin. She was kinda a girly girl at the time so we don't know where this came from either and tried to suggest other names but hers stuck.
She was the most wonderful, loveable and playful little dog and for the rest of her days we called her Melvin. |

Parvo is a viral illness that incubates in 7 to 14 days, so a clean bill of health today can mean nothing if they are on day 1-6 of exposure. So I would go a few days later even if they do say it is all AOK. |

All of our animals have names from Disney movies. Our 1 yr old German Shepherd's name is Nita. Her name goes with our other two dogs names which are Kenai and Koda. All three of them are named from the Brother Bear movies.

My precious furry heart is Sandy. My sil and family called her that when he found her... After Sandy the squirrel on Sponge Bob (4 year old) because she looks alot like her. Even though they only had her for less than 24 hrs, I kept that name.
So wishing I would have named her Ginger, as I sign all my cards - Marianne & Sandy. |

I agree with getting her checked out. Years ago we got our son a cute beagle mix. Got him on Friday, he didn't act like he felt good over the weekend, and Monday we're at the vet with Parvo. He was the only pup out of the litter (to our knowledge) that came down with it. It was our second experience with a dog having Parvo. Then our sweet chocolate lab we took in tested positive for heart worms... seems we get the pets that know we will take care of them.
As for girl names, we've had Annie, Marie, Goldie, Heidi. Now we have Lucy and Tater.

I called mine Pecka. Her original name was Pepper (she was a small black dog) and I didn't like that. Pecka sounded similar but also she would jerk her head forward like peck - peck - peck and she had this long pointy nose. It worked.
I am a believer in naming the dog something that relates to its personality or habits. So you would wait until it shows up and then name it. |
