@Annabelle while the bottom layer of icing is wet you pipe horizontal lines of pink and red frosting across the whole cookie. Then while everything is still wet, you take a toothpick and draw it straight down through all the icing...then you just alternate lines. You draw one up, one down etc until you get across the whole cookie.

As much as I hate to admit my middle child and I made those premade phillsbury cut out cookie. She loved them but I was not feeling mom of year about it.

@jesslee omg..please dont feel bad about that!! i always make those premade cookies too! I more or less make these type of cookies for fun..its like a hobby for me.

@vivmarina...it's royal icing. If you would like the recipe let me know.
The zig zag is made by piping horizontal lines onto the cookie. When all the icing is still wet you drag a toothpick down through it and alternate dragging lines up and down. Really easy!
