Mine is next week. We are planning to go out with a few other couples one night to a show and dinner. Also, will go out for a nice dinner with DH and DS. I don't know if they have anything else planned.

I will be 40 in 3 years. My BFF turns 40 sixteen days after me. I told her that I want to take a trip to Greece. Yep...that is what I want to do.

Our youngest will be 4 and out of diapers. DH should be able to handle all 3 of them for a bit.

we don't do anything special for birthdays as a rule, but I've never really seen those 'significant' birthdays as anything significant, lol! I guess I just really don't 'get' why 30, 40, 50, etc. are so much more important than the other 9 birthdays you have in any given decade.

I remember seeing previous co-workers who had black balloons all over their cubes, the 'over the hill' stuff everywhere, etc. and I totally did NOT want any of that... for me, my 30th and 40th birthdays were just like any other birthday-- just cards from family, and going out to lunch or dinner.

DH threw a surprise party with the help of my 2 best friends. I was very surprised! He took me out to dinner and when we got home everyone was in the driveway smiling and waving. A third friend had made delicious food and everyone got me funny cards.

It was sweet and I loved it!

We have often asserted and we affirm it yet again that no fact in history is better attested than the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. It must not be denied by any who are willing to pay the slightest respect to the testimony of their fellow men. That Jesus, who died upon the cross, and was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea, did literally rise again from the dead. (excerpted from Dance Your Shoes Off, Second Baptist Church)

I'd love both, a trip and a huge party. I'll be 34, so I have a way to go to 40, but I would really love both! If I could only have one, I'd probably pick the trip with DH & my girls.

I'll probably throw DH a big party for his 40th (he's a few years older than me) and then ask for a trip for mine, that way I do get both just a few years apart... the party doesn't have to be about me!

My DH and DDs through me a surprise party. We had planned on a family dinner including my sister, BIL and Mom. I did not figure it out until the wrong turns started. I had the black crows in the yard when I woke up and was not suspicious at all. Old and new friends and family, but the biggest surprise was my oldest childhood friend who flew in and stayed with her parents who are neighbors of mine!

I should have known since I threw a surprise party for DH at 40.

I just turned 40 this January.

If money were no object, I would have loved to take some kind of grand trip. Or even a small trip! But I'm on an unpaid maternity leave, so that was a no go.

Instead I decided to do 40 random acts of kindness in the 30 days before my birthday. I paid for people's orders behind me in the drive thru, I "adopted" a family for Christmas, I took a donation to the food pantry, etc etc etc. I even mailed some extra scrapbooking supplies I didn't need any more to some folks here at 2peas!

It was really important to me to mark the occasion somehow, but our finances really limited me. I'm so glad I did what I did. It was a really neat experience.

DH and I also went out for a nice dinner on the day itself.

my kids were all throwing up the days leading up to my 40th. DH woke up that day and said "ooh, i'm so sorry, i don't feel well" and he succumbed to the bug.

so i took care of sick people and cleaned up after them for my 40th. everyone kept apologizing but what can you do, it's not like they all got sick to ruin my birthday??

around 7pm that night, my stomach didn't feel well - it was my turn. so for my 40th, i got a stomach virus! not fun but memorable... i guess.

hope yours is better than mine!

I knew my DH would be stressed with planning a party, so I decided to cross something off my bucket list instead- skydiving! It was so much fun!

We ended up going out of town during my 40th to a little Dutch town (Solvang). (It wasn't "for" my birthday, it just so happened that's when we could go). They are known for their pastries. I woke up that morning to find DH gone. I was hoping he was out getting me a breakfast treat of coffee/danish...nope, he was looking for a newspaper for the Sports page (this was about 7 years ago).

We didn't do anything special that day. People kept calling me, which was nice, but I was hoping for more from DH. No gift or anything. He said he was waiting until we got home but even then, I think he ended up getting me a spa gift certificate eventhough he knows that's not my thing.

For his 40th about a year later, I had his friends over for 40 hours of board games (his thing). It was really fun.

I hope my 50th is a little bit more meaningful. DH will have our 20th anniversary next year. I definitely want a small trip for that with just the two of us. Kids will be 17 and nearly 14 by then, so hopefully they can manage for a few days without us.

For my 40th, I packed up my twins, the dog and my truck and headed out to a cabin in the woods at my favorite state park for a "girls only" camping weekend. We hiked, the girls played in the creek next to our cabin and played lots of board games next to the roaring wood stove. It was a lovely, slow-paced weekend we all enjoyed.

I don't even remember what was done for my 40th birthday! Must have been the start of the decline of my memory! LOL! I did, however, do something for myself. I got my first (& only) tattoo!

My 50th will be this year and one of my thoughts was to jump out of an airplane! Don't know if I'll follow through on that thought though!

I hated my 40th!! At the time it seemed like the beginning of the end. I was depressed all day long. Weird!! The next day I was fine...

My 50th in 4 years time I want a girl's night. I will back in the UK with family and friends and my divorce will be way behind me by then!! As long as I celebrate with people I love, I will be happy!! Eek! I just realised my youngest will be almost 19 then!!! Now that is scary!!

I wanted to organize a Vegas trip with all my 40 sisters from high school and other walks of life, but I ended up going to see U2 last minute - the last concert of their last north American tour - and it was worth it.

Vegas will always be there.
