I was at Michaels today looking for storage baskets for my new Costco project table. I saw the MME Halloween 6x6 paper pack and fell in love with it. I knew some people were getting it for a penny during the clearance sale, but I was willing to pay regular price (minus a coupon) since I loved it that much.
But it rang up for a penny. Then the cashier said "uh oh....". So I asked her if anything was wrong and she says to me "This is on clearance. You can't return it.". I guess I looked kind of ummm....okay. Deal. Lol
I also got one of the Christmas ones for a penny too at another Michaels. I've been to a few Michaels today on a hunt for 6 of the same baskets,
So just remember, you can't return penny items. |

I got a check once for TWO cents from an insurance company. Needless to say, I didn't cash it. I liked the idea of throwing their books off by two pennies rather than the quandry of what to spend that whole two cents on.

They're actually not supposed to but I guess some of the stores don't care.
And I think any clearance is non-returnable. |

In February or March a few years ago, I got a Studio G Christmas stamp at Michaels for one penny. They sold it to me anyway but wanted to know if there were any more. I told them there was at least one more and they wanted to know where so they could go get it off the shelf. I was kicking myself for not getting both, could have given the other to a friend IF they'd have let me have both. |

They're actually not supposed to but I guess some of the stores don't care.
Actually, Michael's current corporate policy is that they have to sell it to you.
You cannot go to the shelf and get more, but they hav to sell it to you.
There is a HUGE list of paper pads, spellbinders dies, and stamps that people were getting for a penny.
I was in an Ms and the manager wouldn't sell me an item for a penny. I called corporate while I was in the store and they asked to speak to him from my phone and quoted him the company policy and he had to sell it to me.
There's a post on another thread that quotes the section and subsection ofthe policy regarding this
matter - the store has to sell you the items you have at the register, you cannot go back for more, and they are supposed to immediately go pull all the rest from the shelves.
So if you ever find something you really want for a penny - don't leave the store. Call corporate while you are in the store!!

Btw which paper pads? Never hurts to check my store when I am getting groceries in that shopping center tomorrow.
Sadly my store doesn't usually have what the other stores have, even at full price. No WRMK albums, washi, etc and they always say "we are a low volume store so we don't order what the other stores do" / and every time there are other scrappers looking for the same items as me that they won't carry! Hint- if you want to increase sales, order what your customers ask for! |

wonder what 25 percent off a penny would be? I saw a coupon for 25 percent off your entire purchase!

myshelly - hmm.... I wonder how that works out on their inventory and RTV.

a penny. If it's more than half a penny, it'd be rounded up to a penny. |

^^^^^ one of the stores I stop at occasionally is like this, too... it's annoying, because it's actually more convenient to me than a couple other stores. But, those other stores get my business- because they actually HAVE what I want to buy!!

Well you are among the fortunate.
In times past, when something rings up for a penny, they have refuse to sell it, claiming it's been recalled.
Be glad your cashier didn't know. |

myshelly - hmm.... I wonder how that works out on their inventory and RTV.
It does royally screw up inventory and RTV.
That's why some managers try to tell you they can't sell it.
Managers do get in trouble for selling the penny items - because they are supposed to be pulled from the shelves BEFORE a CUSTOMER finds a penny item. Managers get graded down for not managing clearance properly when penny items are left on the shelves. A store manager may tell you he can't sell penny items bc he doesn't want to get graded down, but he is trying to cover his own @ss, not enforce a corporate policy.
But in the interest of customer service, corporate policy is to sell it to the customer.

I bought both of those paper pads last year with a coupon. Lucky you! 've never been lucky enough to find anything that rang up at a penny. Enjoy your purchase!

Btw, in case you were looking for project ideas, I made some cards (Saturday card sketch with Kimber) with both of those paper pads as well as a layout with the Christmas pad.
Thought I would link it up in case you're interested:

2. Christmas thank you card
3. Halloween card

Thanks, myshelly. Guess that's one way to tell if your store has a good manager or not. |
