Some of you ladies amaze me. First, it's OA's business as to what lines they produce and when they release them. Who says they have to attend CHA and release their new lines at the same time as anybody else. It's their business, let them run it the way they want - good or bad. Who are you to question their motives or decisions?

Also aren't there more important things in this world to get angry and upset about than something like this? Seriously people! I like some of OA's collections and others not so much, but if I don't like something they put out, I simply don't buy it. Enough said. I see no need to share that fact with the world in the mean-spirited way some of you do.

What purpose does coming on here and blasting the company, its employees and its business practices serve? There must be something in your life that is more important and more deserving of your attention. It seems like some of you have a grudge against OA and will say or do anything to make sure the whole world know about it. Frankly, I don't care what it might be because I've got bigger and better things to worry about. Where does all this anger come from? Did your parents not hug you enough when you were kids? You come across as nothing more than bullies.

My grandmother says, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Maybe some of you should try it.

Sorry. I'm neither angry nor upset (and my parents hugged me plenty). But I'm not excited, either. I vaguely remembered that one of the lines was library themed, but off the top of my head, I couldn't tell you what the other two were about, and I'm a huge OA fan. I love the designs and what their design team does with it. Sometimes I take out the paper just to flip through it because it's pretty. I want them to succeed. I want to be able to buy their product. The flu bug this year sucked, no doubts there. I had no problem with them bowing out of CHA. But...if they can post umpteen cute memes/quotes/facts on Facebook and update the blog frequently...is it really that hard to post something about the new lines, even if it's more sneak peeks?

As for excitement, I was excited a month ago to see the new releases, to chat with other scrapbookers during the social. I was excited to bring home 90% of my CHA shopping list 2 weeks ago. I was excited to walk into my Joanns today and see the pegs ready for Basic Grey. I'm pretty much out of excitement and space for new stuff.

To upset said employees, apparently.

I don't really care if OA ever makes another piece of paper. I buy what catches my eye. When it's in the store. If it's for sale and I like it I will buy it. Until then... I don't really care.

Same here - tbh I don't actually mind that they release everything a couple of months after everyone else, it makes my budgeting what to buy each month easier.

I doubt that they would drop hints two months in advance if they were going out of business, but with the supplier problems they've had in the past I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there was a buyout/partnership or whatever happening. As long as they keep their unique style, it seems that would make everyone happy

This is a great thread! I don't know why people hand slap about this type of post. I knew when I opened it up that there would be pea's complaining and maybe getting some answers. I came here to look for new info and maybe commiserate with people that are tired of waiting. There is nothing wrong with it! If the hand-slappers want, start your own thread and stay off the threads that you know you won't like to read.

Having said that, most of the time I don't even buy OA. Like the previous poster said... I've usually spent my scrappy budget before their lines get released. I'd rather have my money go to a company that treats their customers better anyway.

This is how I deal with OA.

I don't buy it when it first comes out. Because I finally give up on waiting.

When everyone here starts reaching the end of their patience in waiting for the upcoming lines, I go buy the ones from the past season.

So I can go buy some OA right now that's new to me, and I'll get these come summer or fall!

A scrapbook company's purpose is the make money.
It makes money by selling product.
No product = no money.

Obviously, OA is in financial trouble. There just isn't any other explanation for it. Their business practices are so bad and so alienating that there is no way there is a master strategy behind it.

I love OA products and would like to continue to buy their stuff. I'll be sad if (when?) they go out of business.

I think the posters here who are having a hissy fit about the "mean" things we are saying about the company are obviously employees of that company. If you are going to hair flip, at least make it an entertaining one.

Cool your jets ladies... They just posted to Facebook that they are revealing the 3 full lines starting next week. They were waiting for all the cha stuff to settle down. I know there are most likely other things too, but it is coming soon, at least the reveal... Who knows about when the product will hit the stores.

Emerydog7,

I think it's pretty hilarious how nobody prior to you posting your post.. Had anything that negative to say about OA just their own opinion & past history.. As far as I can see.. You should Learn to take your own advice seeming as your the only one acting out of line.. Being "angry" as you have put it! & as far as your comment of "not having anything better to do" what's your excuse then? Since you clearly have taken the time out of "your day" to bash people on a message board that you know nothing about.. Were you not huged as a kid? & I'm sure your grandmother was a smart woman for telling you this great advice that you so clearly do not stand by.. It works both ways! People bashing OA you bashing peas on a board ..please tell me how that was "anything nice to say" !!

ArtBabe, good explanation. I have an MBA, and the story of OA would make a great case study (do they still do those in MBA school? Done all the time in the 80s when I got mine!).

The late pull-out from CHA may have been for the reason given (illness) but there must have been other reasons too. Cuz if you are ready for CHA, and then can't go at the last minute, surely someone can sit up to the computer in their jammies and REVEAL. They said "next week" at CHA time, and what was that, over a month ago? It's still "next week". Methinks there were no designs at CHA time. I hope they didn't have a lot invested in travel arrangements, booth, etc. Wonder if they'd even signed up? We'll be lucky if there are any now. Seems other companies managed to have their product ready to show at CHA (which is the leading place to push your new lines, folks, and get the buzz started--if plain ol' scrappers are saying "my budget is spent" a month later, what do you think SB stores are saying? Same thing.)

I love and use OA's product, and wish them the best, but they're clearly doing something wrong. Time will tell. If they are bought up (which seems one reasonable strategy for survival) I wonder who will continue to design the brand? Are the designers the owners? Because it seems it may be important to separate the owners from the management decisions for the brand.

I will continue to buy OA if and when it's available, if my sb budget permits it.

I hope to see OA survive......love that range.
I have only ever had great service from them in any dealings with them.

I do find it amusing people get so antsy about the release of new ranges from any company, I suppose its just not that important to me personally, and I don't care if I don't get the new ranges in the week it's released.....it thats just me

I love october afternoon product. I get annoyed at the lying & miscommunication. If you say the reveal will be in two weeks then you reveal nothing ... I don't think that is a way to treat customers. I don't care if they were not going to release anything at all ... Just make that point clear.

Recently there marketing or pr person has stepped up ( thinking Jon) and addressed several issues. Which was a great change ... But now they slipped back to where they were before.

For me it's not "just paper and embellishments" ... It is how you treat customers.

What I've gotten from this thread is that Peas love the OA product when they can get it and they wish OA management/distribution lived up to the product. Its not disrespectful for the consumers who are spending their hard earned money to ask for accountability from the businesses we buy from. If you were waiting on a part for your vehicle you wouldn't accept this sort of service so why should you accept it from OA. Yes it is a hobby business and not as important in the grand scheme of things, but the important word is business not hobby. I expect the same Basic standards of service from all businesses whatever the sector they are in.

I don't keep track of CHA and new release hoopla. If I happen to see something I like at my LSS, then I will buy it. If OA happens to come out with a 8x8 pad that I don't have, I'm sure I will buy it. I wish they would make 6x6 paper pads. I really like alot of their paper collections.

Regarding the original subject of this thread, it is not a matter of being "late" in revealing new lines, but rather, a matter of October Afternoon's decision of how and when to market our new collections since we were unable to attend CHA.

In keeping with this plan, we will begin posting full reveals in the next few days starting with our new Travel Girl collection. We will follow that with Daily Flash and then Public Library. We expect to begin shipping Travel Girl in early April. Daily Flash will begin arriving in stores about a month later, with Public Library becoming available a month after that.

I would also like to clarify what appears to be a misunderstanding about a "big announcement" our company is reported to be making in April. No announcement is forthcoming. It appears someone inadvertently perceived a comment on our Facebook page about when our new lines would begin shipping as something else. I apologize if it was unclear and for any confusion it may have caused.

I invite anyone with questions or concerns to contact me directly by emailing me at jon.f@octoberafternoon.com.

Thank you for your response. If OA is choosing its own timeline for product releases, perhaps the company should stop referencing CHA. After all, other companies in the industry - including those that were also absent at CHA - revealed their full lines over a month ago. Many of those products introduced immediately prior to or during the show are already available in the marketplace - before OA even posts images of their new lines or gives projected release dates!

I agree. And before I say what I'm going to say, I will add that I LOVE OA - bought a Santa Sack, made a ton of projects recently using OA. So this is not coming from a malicious place or from wishing the company ill - I would love to see it succeed and keep going.

But I think the most irritating thing is not that OA was late with the release. It's the feeling of being deceived. If you're not ready, then just say so. Own up to it. Be honest with your customers and let them know where things stand. Or just be done with trying to release for CHA dates. It's not a big deal, really.

But being consistently late and then always having some excuse or other is the really annoying part. After a while, it's like the boy who cried wolf - hard to trust anything a company says. I guess they all had the flu....but maybe not? Since if it was just the flu, why wasn't anything posted? Oh yes, it's to control our excitement levels.... as I said, there's always something.

Designing great product takes time and we all obviously think OA has great product - so needing more than 6 months that all the other companies need is understandable. Production issues are understandable. Everything is understandable if you're honest and up-front, and the customer and the stores know they can take your word for it. Don't say it will be ready to ship in June. Say you don't know when it will be ready to ship, if you don't know.

Ok....that's all I wanted to say. I think if the customer relations side of OA was handled better, all the customers wouldn't be annoyed and pissed off.

Over half of the staff was indeed very ill with the flu, and amidst reports of just how serious this strain of influenza could be, OA made the right choice in postponing the releases and having employees focus on their health instead. Thus, during one of the busiest (and most financially lucrative) times of the year, OA was forced to make a tough decision, and I admire the one made.

I do understand the "seeing is believing" argument -- I really do! -- but I don't want any company's lines to be released just because everyone else is releasing lines at the same time; I want them to be released only when they're ready, and only when they're truly worth the wait. The reason we've been waiting isn't due to duplicity; it's due to what we expect from OA and what it expects from itself -- a great product.

I am looking forward to the reveals. It doesn't really bother me that they didn't come out with all the rest. So much comes out at CHA it's too overwhelming and I can't take it all in. Plus it's all over so quickly. I'm glad there will be something new to look at and consider buying

to me personally, it is not whether or not they went to CHA, I don't care if they had the flu (I care as a human, but it's not like I'm going to be visiting these people in the hospital), I really, to be honest, don't care if they don't release anything at all...

STOP LYING and making promises that you OBVIOUSLY can't keep (as shown by the fact that you NEVER keep them), be honest & upfront and then I would respect you much more as a company.

Instead of coming on here and giving us excuse #435 and promise # 678, why not just say "We screwed up. We got sick, took some time off. We aren't ready to show anything yet, so we appreciate you just waiting until we are ready"

Tell the truth and except the consequences.

Emerdog7,
I really hope you have nothing to do with OA cuz your post is out right ridiculous! Seriously? We can talk in here about whatever we want I is not your bussinness if we have a life or not . I actually defend OA, BUT!!! I respect all the Peas opinions. Lesson #1 for being a Pea:
Don't come here or to any other board inside the two peas and tell us we can't have an opinion. You can disagree, BuT! You can tell us we don't nothing better to do. Because IF you belong to scrapbook company guess what. This people here are the ones putting food in your table. We are The ones that stalk their packages, follow CHA and live in designers blog. We are not your regular "I will buy my scrapbook stuff at Walmart" scrappers. So really, you should be kissing our feet cuz without us their would definitely be no OA. Ask yourself what happen to all those companies like Making Memories that even tried to go big, That obviously are the opposite of OA. So i'm guessing OA needs us stupids with "nothing else to do scrapper" who take all this BS from a company for a darn piece of paper... I'm going with option: they need us A LOT! In My case, a darn roller date!
How is that for a hair flip??!

But I think the most irritating thing is...the feeling of being deceived. If you're not ready, then just say so. Own up to it. Be honest with your customers and let them know where things stand...But being consistently late and then always having some excuse or other is the really annoying part.
Exactly; honesty, integrity, & punctuality don't seem to be OA values. The company seems to have an entitled attitude that customers are ignorant & will flock to OA product whenever they decide it should grace the shelves! Let's see how long that lasts...

Given OA wasn't registered & hadn't shipped its booth/(non-existent) product/etc., the company had already chosen not to attend CHA. Whether staff members actually had the flu isn't the issue; rather, the flu was obviously a convenient & sympathetic external excuse for the company to skip CHA. If flu were a valid reason for their absence, why couldn't the staff members who were fortunate to dodge the flu &/or those who have since recovered weeks ago have posted product images or taken orders by now? It appears the reason is because history repeated itself: OA was ill-prepared for/had no intentions to attend the show & waited until its competitors released their new lines & customers responded before creating anything.

Rather than continuing to reference CHA, why doesn't OA announce its decision not to follow industry timelines for releases, then actually introduce its "great product," per its own schedule? IMHO releasing "great product" doesn't excuse OA from having poor business practices.

ETA:

A FB posts says later today.
Well, it's 12:00am (CST - local time for OA) on Sun, 2/24, & the full reveal still hasn't been posted in accordance with OA's own timeline!

obviously we love their product, otherwise we wouldn't be this distraught over not seeing it. In other words they should be happy that we care. If noone liked their products, their would be no threads about it. Personally I don't find this thread to be cruel. Its a part of being in business. You must take the good with the bad, perhaps they will see this and try and make things better. IMO it's constructive criticism.
Bring on the new lines OA!!

I so agree with the ladies about releasing at their own pace. There are great examples of that. Basicgrey did not go to CHA and announced it in their blog. SEI (another company who also was in the textile industry) stopped going to CHA. If I recall well they also announced it. Echo Park makes all their releases whenever they darn want to.they also do CHA..,BUT! They also release in between CHA. I bet you there is like 20 more that do their own thing, but they come clean. Honestly i will keep buying OA and I guess that I don't have enough self respect that could make me stop buying any paper I love but I TRULLY wAnt new OA lines. So my suggestion to anyones that has to do with the company just have a better plan because since i've learned about OA last year there has been issues with the lines delivery.so all this opinions I can say I saw them coming from a mile away. So it honestly doesn't bother me that you are late OA, just that people keep getting disappointed. Like the earlier comments we just love your products so much it really hurts when we don't even get an idea of what is coming.
Heidi Swapp had issues with her Designs of her lines, when she was interview came clean and said that it was going to show late, months late. I don't see anyone angry at that. why? because now we know they are coming late! Not 2 months after they were already late.
