We are selling our house. I have to pick an agent. We interviewed two and they are both a really good choices. One is the same agent we used when we bought the house so we have a previous relationship with her. But the other one seems to be just as good and I keep coming back to her. DH didn't get to meet with her and feels we should go with the one we already know. Neither of them really stand out as better or worse than the other. Both reputable, work for big name companies, offer nearly the same services...

How would you decide?

I would go with the known entity.

Everything else being equal, I prefer the known to the unknown!

If you met with them both and for some reason you keep wanting to go to the one you have no previous ties to over one you already worked with there must be something about the meeting that made you feel better about her. Go with your gut, you met with both of them.

I would go with your original realtor. Unless you feel she didn't do a good job then why would you not be a repeat customer.

You can always sign a short contract and move on if you are worried.

We had a similar situation when selling our first house. We went with the lesser known agent with a lesser known company because he just seemed more passionate about selling our house. We went with our gut in choosing him. He sold it in 3 days.

I had two that I interviewed when I listed my house. I didn't have a relationship with either one. The salesman where I was buying my new home recommended one of them. The other was a random call to a major agency with a good reputation.

The realtor that I chose was going to not only list my current house but I would be putting their name on the purchase of my new house. They didn't have to do anything for that one. I had already done everything. The sales guy was holding the paperwork for the name before turning it in to his company. What is common around here is a realtor giving a 2% discount off of the sale of your current home if they handle both the sale and the purchase of the new home. One of the realtors offered me 1% off on the sale of my current home and 1% off on the purchase of my new home. This was worth more $$ to me because the new home was worth more. Also, the marketing plan of the realtor offering me the split discount was slightly better than what the other realtor was offering. That is how I made my choice..........money and the marketing plan.

This is true.

The last time we sold a house it sold within two weeks, so I didn't get a chance to see how good or bad the agent was. I don't expect to have near the same luck this time.

We are moving out of state so that wont work for us.

I'd go with the one that has the larger network of agents/brokers in the local area. We went with a RE agent that was well known but had gone out on her own who we had bought the home from. We did a short contract and she did almost nothing. (She assumed she had a buyer and when they didn't come through, she had nothing and no coworkers to help market it).

Once we switched, we ended up selling because our agent had a large open house for other brokers/agents. Got many more in the door. I still suspect RE#1 had pissed off so many that she had worked with at other agencies that none of them would show our home because of it.
