I am mostly a 4x6 scrapper but I have the hardest time using horizontal and vertical pictures on the same layout! My pictures usually take up the whole frame so cutting them down isnt an option. And I'd rather not ALWAYS need to split it into two pages. Help! | |

I need help with this one too. Even when I crop a little I can't seem to make them fit onto the page and it not look lopsided. I tried to do this with the help of GG's White space video and mat a 6x10 (give or take) space and place the photos together. Needles to say that was a disaster Any help would be appreciated. TIA |

I usually look for a sketch that has both and follow it. Makes it easier. |

This is always a conundrum for me too...and I often solve it by just using ONE of the pictures. hahaha.
But I have pulled it off before, usually by slightly overlapping a corner of the photos as in these two examples:

A grid layout is a great way to go.
I cut a 4x4 and a 6x6 piece of pattern paper and create a 10x10 grid with the two photos. Then I used a plain matt just bigger than 10x10 and put it all in the centre of a 12x12 pattern. I like this layout for masculine pages especially
Another layout that works well is if you follow an L shape on the page by placing a strip from top to bottom and another from left to right. That way the photos can follow the same pattern. For this I would usually have the photos slightly angled and a tiny bit overlapping. |

I struggle with this all the time, too, and was thinking of giving a shout out to Glitter Girl for help this week!
I think my problem originally stems from the fact that I take multiple photos in different orientations but then I always seem to love one in horizontal and one in vertical for the same subject. I've searched sketches for inspiration but they almost always use either a T or L formation (obviously) and while I like L shaped LO bases with paper, I don't typically like my photos being in an L formation. I might have to give the grid idea a try, if I can wrap my head around the instructions.  stwa, I don't suppose you have an example LO to look at?
In the end I usually get around my road block by removing one of the photos or splitting them into two LOs (not necessarily a 2-page spread). | |

I think a remember either Glitter Girl or Shimelle saying that this isn't her favourite type of layout either...but she has an example of it somewhere...I need to make one also..so I am now reviewing both Glitter Girl episodes and my Shimelle.com classs for that layout. (I started looking yesterday..but no luck so far.) But I may try the grid idea...as mine is boy page so the block style would probably really work well. |

Thanks Sarah for the great idea about the grid...I just whipped off my page in about 30 minutes thanks to your great idea... I split the 6x6 square into 2 pieces so it work for the Stashbusters challenge of using 3 pieces of pattern paper because I didn't use the 10x10 mat! LOve how it turnes out and so easy...Thanks again!!

You're right - it's not my favourite. I'm afraid Glitter Girl isn't up for doing a specific episode on this topic as there is a prompt dedicated to it in my Scrapbook Remix class that shares my favourite way to use the two together, and as that's a paid class I don't want to rehash that material in a free resource, as that's not very fair to those who have taken the class.
But this discussion did come up recently and if you check this thread, you'll find a list of links to other examples that may be helpful.

not exactly a "solution" per se, but one thing I do is resize one of the photos to something like a 2x3. This is especially helpful if you doing a page smaller than 12 x 12. You don't have to cropt them either. And it's super easy to print the smaller pics at the drug store where I print pics. (they call them mini prints). I'll admit that I also have to add a third photo, because I have to have odd numbers. | |

Sometimes I trim off what I can to either fit more or just leave more space on the LO. But I tend to have multiple pictures and also try not to make 2 pagers if I can help it. |
