You must have missed my apology, like I missed that you were joking. I am sorry. I am grumpy today

You don't owe me an apology because I wasn't offended in the least. My title was a joke, but the response really has me scratching my head. I really am curious why you would characterize it as divisive. Aren't there many political parties? How is being more aligned with one than with others divisive? Michelle Obama is a very different person than I, with very different views. I love that we live in a pluralistic society. I see that as a positive thing, not a divisive thing. I must be misunderstanding your meaning. I'm asking honestly, if you can help me to understand.

This is an agreeable argument.

I had stomach cancer 5 year's ago and the result of the radiation treatment has guaranteed that I will never get above 100lbs. However, I was always thin before, because I watched what I ate. It truly is that simple. You are what you eat. If you excess in fatty, processed foods, you will gain weight. If you take the time to consume healthy, whole foods, you will maintain or lose weight. The math is not complicated.

And, Christie, just curious, why do you think it is socially acceptable to say that someone who is thin is "a 12 year old boy?" That is just mean and hateful.

*I'm mean and hateful? Okay...haha. Nowhere did I say that someone who is thin is a 12 year old boy. I said we weren't all meant to look like 12 year old boys, meaning stick thin with no curves...which I will admit is my own interpretation of what you seem to think women should look like.

I know, right? Like

Sorry.. I'm not buying it. MO's hips are so large. I know in the photo shop pics they don't appear to be, but it is what it is. She can be in favor of healthy eating but the reality is that her figure argues otherwise.
She appears to backtrack slightly with

Christie, You are right. Some people are just built that way. I agree that she may eat healthy, but her figure just doesn't comply.

and then follows up with contradictory arrogant lecture of the forever thin

However, I was always thin before, because I watched what I ate. It truly is that simple. You are what you eat. If you excess in fatty, processed foods, you will gain weight. If you take the time to consume healthy, whole foods, you will maintain or lose weight. The math is not complicated.

It is an ongoing discrepancy. It is somehow socially acceptable to tell someone they are skinny (I hate that word) or thin, but you can NEVER tell someone they are fat or overweight. Why is that?? Just curious.

Right. B/c no one can have hip spread at her age and still eat healthy and have other heathy habits. Watch out. Your ignorance is showing.

Love Mrs. Obama. Good for her. (and yeah, I knew what Aslan meant, but I hate even joking comments like that. If someone said that about Mrs. Bush at the time, you know someone would have been all over it.)

Then again I thought Laura Bush was a good person as was Hillary Clinton. I think they all have great initiatives.

OK. Newbie. This is how it works. If your post consists of 80% sanity, 10% stupidity and 10% all kinds of crazy, we immediately focus on the 20% b/c it discredits the 80%.

RhondaC no need for butt/hip shots but lets see your face. At less than 100 pounds and 50+ I think its a safe bet to say you look "road hard and put away soaking wet" and if anyone chastises me for picking on a cancer survivor I will channel MY inner 12-year old boy and say she started it.

Oh, and fwiw, I saw Mrs. Obama in person at a campaign rally last July, and she did not appear overweight. Or maybe they photoshopped the podium for those of us in the bleachers

Rhondac, with the exception of pregnancy (and the aftermath!), my weight has consistently fluctuated between 105 and 112 my entire adult life. Generally, I maintain a decently acceptable lifestyle but I don't obsess over food one way or another. I don't exercise like a maniac either. All things in moderation. I'm blessed with great genetics, pure and simple.

I have many friends who are not as fortunate as I am, who have been waging a battle against unwanted weight gain all their lives. I would never, ever speak to them in the condescending and insulting way you have addressed people regarding weight control challenges. You seem to want to propagate the notion that super-thin is the only proper body type for women - a notion that has lead millions of women to develop anorexia, bulimia and other serious mental and physical disorders.

A healthy life style can result in a myriad of body types, not just the bean-pole thin you believe is the "right" type.

I, too, thought it was Tina Fey at first! That clip was hysterical.

I've liked Michelle ever since she got to the White House. It's always fun to see famous people (in such a serious position as FLOTUS) being able to have a good time and laugh at themselves.

dottyscrapper. Many people, if not in this post, claim hereditary as being an excuse for obesity. That is why I mentioned it.

At the end of the day, some people may see MO as being perfectly fit, and some (like me) may see her as being overweight. These are all opinions. And no one (including me) is right or wrong. That is the beauty of our country, we get to express our opinion for what it is, our opinion.

We just need to be nice and civilized about it. To say someone is "road hard and ...whatever" because they weigh less than you is mean. Not nice.

Once again, why is it ok to make mean comments about someone who is perceived as being thin???

But what was your agenda to highjack a thread that had nothing whatsoever to do with weight.

The thread is about how cool and awesome the video was of your FLOTUS launching an initiative of getting Mom's to dance as a form of exercise.
If you wanted to comment on Michelle Obama's weight and express your opinion you should have started your own thread about it and not derailed a thread that had nothing to do with discussing fat or thin opinions!

PGH,I apologize if I came across as condescending and insulting. That truly was not my intent. My apology is sincere. No, I do not see my weight as being the ideal weight for anyone and everyone.

In the medical field, I just see way too many people who blame anything but themselves for their weight problem. They eat way too many calories and then wonder why they cannot lose weight.

I realize this is not the case for everyone. Some people have legitimate reasons why they cannot lose weight.

People responding on this post want to make me out as the mean, rude thin person who just does not understand. I am not that person. Yes, I am thin. But I also have a compassion for anyone who wants to lose weight but is having a hard time at it.

Again, why can we not all have opinions? I am not right or wrong. I am just in the middle of a discussion here. I can change my opinion. No one needs to be harsh or mean. This is just a discussion.

There is no math. You were told you would have a hard time gaining weight and you don't gain weight.

Because no one wants to be overweight. Duh. Of course thinner people look better and are probably healthier. (Sorry Governor Christie)

I don't believe this for a second. Not after your quote above. I think you are a snickerer.

The bottom line is that it IS possible to maintain a healthy weight if you just eat accordingly. My mother is terribly over weight so to say that it is hereditary is nothing more than an excuse.

Kristina Surprised, but not really, at the turn this thread took. I just have to say, if Michelle Obama is overweight I'm in a world of shit. Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion and also fair game for being called on it when it is that wrong.

Doesitmatter, only one person was criticizing Mrs. Obama's physique. Based on top-secret information she has about the First Lady's hips that the rest of us are not privvy to, because we only see the PS-images the Left-Wing Conspiracy wants us to see.

The rest of the nonsense about where fat comes from came from the same poster. None of it was said by the First Lady or anyone else to "excuse" her weight, because the rest of us think she looks awesome.

I can't believe I just sat here and read this whole thread.....4 minutes of my life I'll never get back!!

that said, MO's a rock!! Anyone who wants to argue can drop down and take her on in a push up contest!! My guess is she'll kick your butt, and do it while cranking out one handed push ups at that!!
All typed while munching on unhealthy m&m's! And I'm quite all right with that, so don't blast me!!!

Michelle Obama is so cool. Why can't she be on our side?

I just have to say, if Michelle Obama is overweight I'm in a world of shit.

This bares repeating. Our First Lady has a rockin' bod and that video was awesome.
