When I started scrapping, I would go into an LSS and pick up papers here and there that I liked, with no plan in mind. Of course when I sat down to scrap, I didn't have papers that went together to scrap, so I'd go out and try and buy a paper here or there to match.
So when I started scrapping again, I decided the best way for me to make it simple was to buy collection packs. And...they do work. Only problem is I usually end up with several papers in the collection I don't like.
Or, a collection will come with several of the same sheets. I noticed this one yesterday when I was opening collection packs and putting them in their manufacturer folders. A lot of collections might have 2 of the same sheet, but Heidi Swapp has 3 of the same sheets? I don't need 3 sheets of the papes I like, much less 3 sheets of papers I don't like.
So, time to change my plan of attack. |

I could have written your post. but I still buy collection packs. I like the comprehensiveness of it and I usually like the "B" side enough to use it to mat photos or layer, particularly if I ink it up a bit.

I hear ya! After a layout or two I'm tired of the paperline. I started buying 3 different sheets of patterned paper per line. It works great for me. Hope you a solution that works for you! |

I prefer buying the individual sheets for just those reasons. I also did the math and figured out that, most of the time, it's cheaper to buy individual sheets. I can also buy multiples of the ones I really like and skip the ones I don't like. |

Collection packs vary a lot by manufacturer. I'll buy the ones that only include one of each sheet (like some Basic Grey), two of each sheet if the papers are double-sided, or two single-sided sheets if I really love the line. Also, I only buy them if I was also planning to buy some of the embellishments for the line. Otherwise, I just buy one of each sheet that I like from the collection and maybe a pack of embellishments or two.

I've also started sometimes buying the 6x6 pad to get some of all the patterns and just individual sheets 12x12 of the ones I love or think I'll use as backgrounds. The smaller scale of the patterns in the 6x6 pads seems to work better for layering and such. And it has the added bonus of being cheaper too! |

I've started doing this, too. I scrap 8.5x11 so this usually works out better for me, but I'll still buy 12x12 sheets I like, and if the prices is right I'll get a collection pack. The downside is that I have a ridiculous 6x6 stash now.
I've learned to be wary of Pink Paislee packs, though...I love them, but 4 of each sheet is a lot. I bought the Hometown Summer collection pack and so far used half to do a Shimelle-esque Perfect Collection run, used several in Studio Calico counterfeit kits, random layouts...and I still have a crapload left. Cute paper, but really, I can only use so much. On the flipside, it's perfect for my friend that does a layout for herself and one for each of her 3 kids.
devildog, I'm curious. What HS pack did you get?

Heidi Swapp Vintage Chic
I'm looking at the description, and it says "4" each of 6 designs. Sheesh, if it's got 4 of each, I missed that since I thought it was only 3. I'll have to check it again.
And that'll teach me to read the description before I buy. I never noticed it came with that many to begin with when I was buying it. |

The thing I do most often with paper I'm not crazy about is to use the back (white) side of paper. It makes great journaling spots. Sometimes I'll stamp it, or sometimes, just make tags and cut down the other paper to write on.
The other thing I use that paper for is experiments. When I want to try a new technique, I pull out that paper in case I make mistakes or don't like how the project turns out.

I do love collection packs, but kit clubs make more sense for me because
1. I get stuff that goes together (just like a collection pack
2. I have "just enough" to use until I am tired of it and ready for something new.

I don't like collection packs for a few reasons.
A.) I don't want papers that I don't like, and it's rare that I love every paper in a collection.
B.) The papers I really love, I want more than just 1 of them. Some packs do come with 2 sheets of each, but some only have 1, and that's so not enough. If I really love a sheet, and I love both sides of it, I want at least 3 sheets of it, maybe 4. |

$19.99
INCLUDES 24 DOUBLE SIDED SHEETS (2 EACH OF 12 DESIGNS)Package includes 24 double sided sheets. 4 each of 6 designs.
That HS explanation is weird. It says I'm getting 2 pieces of 12 designs then it says I'm getting 4 ea of 6 designs. Which is it? |

I could write your post about nearly everything EXCEPT Simple Stories. I absolutely LOVE their products! And buying collection packs from them is perfection for me. If there's a paper I'm not crazy about (which rarely happens) I like the other side very well. I like the "Summer Fresh" line so much that I've bought TWO collection packs, plus more. I love the colors and embellishments. They work so perfectly with so many of my photos. And they don't even have to be summer-themed. They are currently my favorite manufacturer. |

I have to really like most of what is in the pack and I always check the B sides. Most times, they are pretty neutral. I still like them and once in a blue moon buy them. Sometimes, I really like the cohesive feel and everything matches.

This is me too. I've started buying 6x6 pads because they're great for PL and cards. If I find a pattern I like, I can just buy the individual sheet. On occasion, I will still buy a collection kit (I just bought Dear Lizzy's 5th & Frolic since it was 50% off and I think I can use it up). I want to check out Simple Stories. I've only heard good things about their Sn@p Line. |

Back in the day when double sided pp had a pattern on one side and a solid on the other it was easier to buy a collection. Now I find It easier to just pick and choose the paper I want.
I think also because I have so much product from all the years I have scrapped its easy for me to find similar products in my stash that I don't need a whole collection.. I mean really pink and white polka dots?? I have so many papers from so many different designers. What comes around goes around! |

I don't buy paper packs anymore or two sheets of double-sided paper. One is enough I've found (learned that from Shimelle). I don't do double page layouts, it's usually not used as my background paper and it minimizes the large amounts of scraps. |

I have so many collection packs I think I am going to scream! What was I thinking? I only like probably 3 sheets of paper from them then I am done with them. Then what do I do with them? I got tons of Junkitz paper packs and Basic Grey and We R Memory Keepers ones. I need a self help book for scrapbookers. Just buy what you are going to need. Not everything! |

I used to be a collection pack person, but I think double sided paper is what killed it for me. I found out what I was REALLY using and it certainly wasn't the full page most of the time. I like to layer and use little bits, even when I'm making cards, so one sheet is just fine for me.
If I REALLY love it I use so fast that most times I'm able to re-buy. Either adding to my left over scraps with fresh paper or just plain getting more after the rest was all gone. I've already gone through the whole collection of some of the things from last CHA and am able to re-buy them for this one to fill in holes in my stash. |

This is one of the first things I could never figure out when I first came to Two Peas. Seemed like everyone was buying collection packs. For the life of me, I could not understand why. Rarely is it that you find you like or use every sheet of paper in the pack. Plus, there really aren't a lot of embellishments so there ya go spending more money on that particular collection to get some embellies and end up hoarding, throwing away, finding a place to donate and simply wasting money! I never understood it, but it seems like more Peas have been either selecting the papers they know they will use or going to kits! I personally, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my kit clubs although right now I'm on hiatus!

I think it helps if you make your own embellishments. I mostly buy collection packs, especially if the paper is double-sided. Even if I don't like one side of the paper, I nearly always like the b-side. I've used full collection packs on projects before, and am in the midst of using one up right now in the album I'm currently working on. I love collection packs, they help me scrap faster |

Some of the older collection packs and some of the stacks still come with three sheets that are alike. I think this may be a left over from the days when many scrapers used pp as their background papers.l
A set of three would give you two to use as background on a double layout and the to cut up to use as an accent.
Weird it comes with 4 of the same. That would drive me nuts even if I liked the papers, it is just too much!
I stil with EP and SS collection packs mainly, one of each sheet plus the letter stickers and some embellishments. |

I'm the opposite! I only started buying collection packs in the last few years and I love having matching paper and embellishments all ready to go.
And yes, there are designs I wouldn't neccessarily buy on their own but used in conjunction with my favourite papers they really pull the layout together.

I'm normally one to buy 3 sheets of a collection (or even 1 or 2) and use them up. But in 2011 I had some kind of a burst of buying WAY TOO MUCH of any one line, inc. collection packs (I was just discovering Echo Park at the time, which was certainly a big part of the problem, and my EP addiction continued into 2012!)
So here I am, 2013, working on LOAD and keeping up. But I believe I am doomed to scrap with 2011-12 papers FOREVER! Oh well, tonight to make life different I used some older Basic Gray--Euphoria. Never broke into it before. I used 1 whole sheet, and four 1/2" strips from other sheets. Yep, it'll be forever. Like Groundhog Day, I'm stuck in 2011!
I'm also not one to use pp as background. Just to work through the backlog of pp...I've been using B sides as background "cardstock". Gotta get through those packs, I tell yoU! I'm working on a backlog of old, sometimes onesie-twosie photos. So I'm pulling out a collection pack and then making up to three LOs from it before I put the leftovers away again. The LOs are going in different books anyway, so who's gonna notice that EP For the Record shows up three times? I did 8 pages about my mom's 80th birthday party (family album, both kids) and was ready to toss the 6x6 pad I'd used for all. Glad I didn't, cuz cleanign my scrap room tonight I found 6 more photos from the party and finished up with a 12x6 LO for between the pages! |

Just like plapple mentioned I really do love the Oh Snap line and love Simple Stories. They just work for m. Even the 6x6 pad has paper I know I will us a lot of. I ordered the collection pack and a few extra papers and embellies and then went back and placed another order for more as I am using it for PL. if needed I will order even more of it. Simple stories is great because the lines and colors just seem to work with my photos and style a lot. |
