My hair is naturally curly, curly and I do nothing with it at all. In the last couple of months I have been doing my own Walmart highlights but that's it. It really needs to be colored because grey is starting to creep in...

Anyways, this is one of the models off the Junk Gypsy's store website (and I'll admit, I have a HUGE girl crush on her) but I absolutely ADORE her hair. I don't particularly care for the short in the back like the red shirt pic, but I do like the side shot on the bottom...but I wonder if I would have to relax my hair some? I also dig the color...

Do you think I could do it? I know the biggest thing here is going to be product...and since that's about all I'm high maintenance about...I'm willing to try.

Thanks for looking!

Your hair has the perfect foundation for this style.

1. Your stylist will need to put blonde highlights in your hair.
2. ETA: I would also suggest a cut with more layers.
3. Product and curling iron for definition will get you across the finish line.

DevaCurl products - their gel and spry on conditioners - will help tremendously.

I think you are just adorable the way you are; I could only wish...but I say go for it...the one thing about hair is that it grows and if you don't care for the look you wind up with, it will grow out, but something tells me, you'll look great no matter what. You have hair that I could only have in my dreams.

I think your hair already looks alot like hers! I think hers is shorter/more layered in the back and the color is different. Other than that I think you are pretty close. You may be able to achieve a looser curl by using a large barrel curling iron on some pieces, or use the curling technique with a small flat iron (tons of tutorials on pinterest.

I wear my hair wavy with a bit of goop and some scrunching. I can't remember the name of the goop, though.

I was just coming on to say Deva!!!! I have curly hair, (Not as curly as yours though) and I tried the Deva once and wow, it really does work. I found it to be too much work though cause my hair is curlier in the back so I'm back to the straightner. Good luck. And you are adorable! Aren't you the one who has the hunky younger man???

LOL Ha..Shannon, yes.

Her hair looks so much more "styled" than mine ever does...I guess that's why I like it. I always feel like a hot frizzy mess.

I'm going to take these to my hair guy and see what the thinks. I don't want to just have my hair but blonde, if that makes sense....

I'll head to Ulta and try the Deva products....I've heard of them but never tried them.

Thanks so much!

I think your hair is adorable just as it is! If you want that cut and color, you really need to find a stylist who is good with naturally curly hair. I think that if done poorly, that cut could look a bit triangular, if you know what I mean. To get the straighter back, you could flat iron the under-layer instead of using relaxer. Relaxer can be very harsh on hair.

I hate you.

I want that hair, too, but as I possess a head full of lank, depressing, STRAIGHT hair ... too bad for me.

My stylist has had to TALK ME OUT OF getting a perm, about 7,000 times. She knows it's too much upkeep for me. (I don't use any products, I don't style my hair -- I part it, comb it and go.)

Anyway -- yes. Lots of layers to get the overall shape to "fall" the way you want. That will be the trick, otherwise, you'll end up with a wacky overall shape. But you do have the perfect hair. I'm salivating. If I were you, I'd cut my hair like that (including short in the back) and then roll with it!

Gosh, your hair is halfway there already. So cute!

I have no advice on how to get that look or how to style it though. I do have enough body in my hair to hold a loose curl, but no where near what you've got.

Don't get me wrong...I love my hair...I just always feels "cute" and not stylish, if that makes sense.

I think curling to get some of the curl out or slight straightening is going to be the key. I agree, need more of a layered "chopped" kinda cut.

I have literally carried this girl's pic on my phone for a year. I think it's just so stinking cute.

I'll report back if (WHEN!) I decide to do it...

And, you basically nailed how I typically feel with my crazy hair every day.

You're adorable now! Your color and curl look a lot like mine! How do you color it yourself? When I ever attempted it, it came out too red for my taste. I rely on professionals to bleach/highlight it. Especially when it's so curly, it's hard to see the highlights!

Her hair looks like looser curls. Yours just needs more weight in the bottom. Everyone's curls react differently to different products. I just met a girl with the PERFECT curls and she said that ALL she uses is this new Tressame curly hair shampoo and conditioner and a dab of any mousse. When I do mine curly, I need good shampoo/conditioner, then Infusium 23 treatment that I spray in, some frizz-ease syrum and then some mousse (L'oreal springing curls). I rarely wear it curly b/c I need too much product in it! I do it "straight" with just coconut oil and then add some loose curls with a curling iron. It stays put for up to 4 days. Much easier for me.

You could definitely achieve this look (you're almost there!). Post pics if you do it. I LOVE it!

OP, I totally understand what you mean about feeling cute but not stylish.

But please don't relax your hair! It is GORGEOUS just as it is!

I used a home relaxer/smoother product, and it is my biggest regret ever with my hair. My curls haven't come back (it's been about 9 months), tons of my hair fell out, and it didn't even calm the frizz which is all I wanted in the first place!

Even when I straighten my hair, even when it's done by a pro, I still don't look stylish. Oh well.

Zella: Who did your hair in your profile pic? It looks NATURALLY straight and it's "stylish," silly!! You could usually spot the real curlyheads by looking close to the temple (like with Nicole Kidman's hair) and seeing telltale signs of curl/frizz. But yours looks perfect!

I did my DD's hair at home with a relaxing kit and hers burned right off too. Never did that again!!! It's pretty easy just to blow it out yourself (if you have the time).

She definitely has high and low lights mixed into hers, and the shape / length of her cut is a bit different, but it's not THAT far off from what you have. I think you could totally do it!

And I wouldn't think you were crazy if you emailed the Junk Gypsy's and ask if you can get info on the model's stylist!

When my hairdresser uses all his potions, and a diffuser, he can make my curls look close to the curls in those photos. When I use the exact same potions, and my home diffuser, my hair looks like yours.

(That's not an insult, despite how clumsily I wrote it. Your curls looks great.)

Are you handy with a diffuser? I know women who are. I'm just not one of them. I get what you mean about wanting to look less frizzy and more "stylish."

When I let my hair air dry I have her curliness, but much longer (mid-back at it's longest, shoulder length layers... very tricky to style without looking Egyptian). Don't look at that avatar photo; it's my shorter layered hair blown dry straight.

Anyhoo - I'm sure that you could TOTALLY pull it off. Your curls are slightly tighter but I really don't think that'd make a difference. If it did, as I think someone mentioned, you could get larger curls across the top layer with a curling iron. I wouldn't try for looser curls on the rest; it will be too time-consuming.

GO FOR IT and - you know the rule already, I see! - post photos!!!

No, yours looks good, it isn't a big unruly mop hanging in your face. It's neat and off your face and it does not look like it needs a good brushing.

I can't believe everyone is serious about the hair on that model??
I stand by my opinion that it is horrible, it's too poofed up and hanging all over the front of her face.
It may look OK while standing still in model pose, but on a practical level those long front stands will always be hanging over her face and everytime she looks down, wants to read something or eat, she'll be tucking those strands back.
I know I couldn't talk to her because she'd be constantly touching her hair to get it out of her eyes and that would drive me totally crazy.
It's a bit like the Meg Ryan choppy bob back in the day, Meg looked adorable, everyone else looked like their 5 yo cut their hair while they were sleeping.

I like curly hair, I have it myself, but I straighten mine because the curl takes too much time and effort to make it look good.

That model is also 25 years younger than the OP.
I had a semi mohawk (shaved sides) at 20 - I didn't have it at 45.

People will think you are a crazy old homeless lady who got caught in a windstorm and doesn't own a mirror or a brush.

Hey...I have hair like this..I call it the crazy cat lady hair. I have people ALWAYS telling me how beautiful my hair is.. I just had surgery and when I woke up I was the talk of the recovery room, how beautiful my curls were,I got to my room and my roomie was commenting. I looked in the mirror and it definatly was crazy cat lady hair, at least it is just long enough to put it into a small pony tail.
I really feel the products you use make a difference on how your hair responds, if I use the wrong product, I end up with a frizzy mess. I love...love bumble and bumble curly hair shampoo and conditioner, with a bit of beach spray to get that gritty curl..=)

You'll look great with that style...and it's too fun!!!

Your hair is SO wonderful now. I would love to have your curls, but I'm cursed with my curls. LOL

I don't really care for the model hairstyle. Way too messy and fake curl looking for me, but since your hair is close to that (but gorgeous and real curl looking), looks like you just need a trim? Although with my hair, the shorter I go, the more outrageous and out of control my curls get. Same for you?

I think that the key to this cut looking "cute" over "messy" is the color, the definition of the curls and - yep - the lipstick. I'm not a lipstick girl so if I wore this out I'd look like I just rolled out of bed. Even a little bit of gloss would say, "I care, and this hair is deliberate."

One time I saw a scene in a movie (Educating Rita, I think) where the fat old London ladies go to the salon with a picture of Princess Diana and say "make me look like this". Thats usually what happens when people ask whether they would look good on a certain haircut.

Ths is not the case. Go to naturallycurly.com and fnd a curly stylist recommended n your area. There are certain stylists that know how to cut curly hair. Most dont. I found a wonderful stylist who did wonders with my curls.

You can have the hairstyle of your deams with very little effort. Youre almst there now. Go for it and good luck.

And please ignore the Thunder from Down Under. Shes not a troll but she sure is a bitch with bad taste in hairstyles.

IPeaFreely, THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting that site!!! Using it, I've found a stylist who trained with Ouidad in NYC (and, of course, sells the products as well). I just embraced my natural curl in the past few years - after growing up thinking that everyone else had some secret way of styling their hair that no one was telling me about which meant, in turn, that my hair always looked weird.

So, OP - are you going for it??

Blessings,
{Melissa}
