Childofthe60's: I used to take my daughter into Manhattan to get her hair done at Ouidad salon. They were GREAT (but very expensive). Their products are wonderful also. My DD still orders thru them online!

ETA: Ouidad is the originator of the "carve and slice" technique used on curlyheads.

I love that this has helped others out!! Ok, I found a girl that can handle my mop (I have another friend that goes to her too) and I am so excited for next Wednesday. She's going to do a Keraton (sp?) treatment to just relax it a little (I was worried about this but she said it will not mess up my curls and will last about 4 months) and then do color and high/low lights and a cut. She said she wouldn't recommend that blonde but with the right cut and products, we should get pretty close.

Last night everyone was doing their own thing so I took 15 minutes and quickly used the straightener and then the curling iron and it looked good. This morning (I didn't wash it or anything) I used the curling iron and just put a little body back in it. My guy LOVES it (although he loves my hot mess too).

I feel so much more stylish (I'm glad some of you "get" what I mean!!) and less of a hot rolling mess.

Thanks again for all your feed back! I'll come back next week and post the results!!!

GORGEOUS!! Your hair looks great both curly and "straight"!! Doncha love having the ability to do both?? I'd post a pic of mine "straight" but I'm always hesitant to post one here. BTW, I ditched all products when doing it straight, and only use a little pure coconut oil, and it takes some of the volume out of mine (which I need).

I agree, this thread has been great for curlyheads! Love it. Ooh, and I have a curlyheaded friend who gets the keratin treatements every few months. Her hair is a little bit looser curl, but she takes 1/2 the time blowing it out after she gets the treatments. HTH.

I agree with Pjaye. Her hair is awful, very unhealthy looking. It looks like she just woke up and said, "good enough." Your hair style looks better. Maybe you could try your style with her color?

My hair cut is very similar to the pictures that you included, but I think the picture version looks a little "messy" and a little too wind blown for my tastes. I like a cleaner look. When I get my hair cut like that, I ask for a "stacked bob".

Just keep in mind that your curls are tighter than the pictures you linked. That model has a looser curl than yours. I personally think that your curls would look nice with that cut.

I would take the pictures in to a stylist that knows how to cut curly hair and show him/her what you want. The stylist can advise you on how close they can get your hair to be that look.

Maybe try the cut first without relaxing your hair to see how you like it and go from there before investing in getting your hair relaxed.

Yes, that would be super cute on you! Do it!

Believe it or not, you and I have very similar hair! I wore mine curly for years but in my 40s started to straighten it everyday and it's soooo much easier. I blow dry the curl out of it by pulling it straight with a vent brush then use a hair straightener. My natural color is also similar to yours but I jumped on the dark hair band wagon a few years ago. On weekends I still wear it curly.

Be sure to post "after" pics!

I just had mine cut like that yesterday and I love it! It's cute and spunky yet still professional. My hair is dark brown but I got chunky bold highlights that really make the curls stand out. Love, love, love it!!

OP-- my hair is VERY similar to yours. I know exactly what you mean when you say you want it a little more styled (and less curly mess). TOTALLY relate. I think the pictures you posted are adorable. I don't have a brush either and haven't for years. So I "get it". Post again if you decide to do it!

Ok...so I had my appointment last night...and let me first say, this new girl freaking rocked! Even though I do NOT like it straight (my guy and everyone that's seen it on FB loves it) but this straight is just not "me". I have to keep it like this till Saturday, then I can wash it and use a product called "Recoil" she recommended to wear it with some body (she does this and I've seen her hair both ways and love it).

This was the first time I've had color ever done and I love, love, love it. I love the cut too and can't wait to see it with some body to it. I'll post another after I wash it (this is like a saga...ha).

Thanks again for all the recommendations etc. Even if I end up never doing it again (the Keraton treatment or even straightening it on my own)...I'm glad I at least tried it!

I love it! My hair used to be curly like this but over time just has a lot of natural body to it. I say "go for it!" You're halfway there already!

I spent most of my life fighting my curls. Finally, a few years ago, I found a stylist on curlygirl that is deva trained and I actually like my hair. When I use the Deva products, it takes only a few minutes for my hair to look good. I get compliments on my hair all of the time, and all of the women at my school with curly hair all go to the same stylist now.

I like that a lot, but then it looks very similar to mine so I guess I would like it. . I have curly hair too, though not quite as tight as yours, and I straighten it like in your "after" pic. I do let it go curly sometimes though, especially if it's humid out.
I like your color!
I've considered a keratin treatment but was sort of wary of what I'd end up with. Let us know how it works for you!

I bet having it straight does look odd to you. I've never straightened my hair, but my dd's want me to do it at least once. My hair stylist said it would be a 4 hour plus process though and it still might not straighten it. How long did it take your stylist to straighten your hair?

I love it both ways, and you are very lucky to have the option to wear it either way. My hair is unbelievably straight and I have never got it to hold any curl at all.
