I bought an Alex cabinet for $129.99 + tax and it comes in black and white, I purchased the black one and I have to tell you its the best build-a-furniture I've ever built. I love the storage capabilities and I love how the drawers pull out smooth. I wish I had room for one more, because this is a fabulous cabinet. Check out the complete line. Have fun!

Thanks Jennifer....their website is really confusing regarding shipping.
I'm a couple of hours away from the actual store and was just gonna order online, but DDIL said she was headed there this weekend and would pick one up for me. Problem solved

OK. Now I am REALLY confused about what I want. I headed over to ikeahackers and found these. That Lack Table work area looks amazing and love using the picture rails for pencil and small tool area.

Expedit Breakfast Bar & desk

Large Work Island using Lack tables

I think I have decided to just get the large pieces and get that all in place and then see what I have for the work area. I am almost leaning away from doing an island. Maybe a work area out from the wall like the Lack one.

Oh dear!!! Too many options.

Then, of course, there is this one. LOVE IT! I would do it without the padding, but, again, love the picture rail on the side.

I also love the island that our own Pea jennimoc posted in her gallery made from 2 Ikea Alex units and 1 Ikea Vika desktop. Check it out! What an incredible idea! Her DH put this together for her and added space between the top of the Alex units and the bottom of the Vika desktop.

I asked about doing this while I was at Ikea last month and they were very helpful. The lady there suggested another way to do it was to take off the rolling wheels (sorry, I have a migraine-can't remember what they are called-casters?) and replace them with Capita legs. They come in 6" and 8" height. The 8" are 4 to a pack for $14.00. That would help bring up the height a bit-not sure if it's counter height, but it's close.

What a great idea! The 8" would definitely make the Alex drawer set counter height, at least for me as my current workspace is almost exactly 32" which is what it would be.

That brings even more ideas to mind. Hmmmmm . . . those CD towers. Hmmm . . .

If you do choose to do this lairdoglen (with the Alex drawers) the Ikea lady said not to be sparse with the legs. In other words you want all the support you can get. Instead of using 4 legs under the whole unit use 8.

She also said there were easy ways to attach the Vikon desktop to the top of the Alex drawers. The Vikon desktop comes in multiple sizes, I wonder if they have one long enough to do an island with 3 Alex drawer units under it?

Well, I finally put together all of the items I purchased at IKEA and my craft room is finally done . . . for now. LOL Here is a link to the photos.

Scraproom Remodel

From Ikea, I ended up using:
3 Besta units in the closet
2 Bonde 2x6 shelving units
3 Expedit 2x4 units
1 smaller Besta
2 short and 1 long Picture Ledge
2 Alex units
3 Lerberg trestle legs
4 BRanas baskets
4 black baskets (not sure of name)
4 Expedit door inserts.

Also in the room are 7 Store in Style cubes from my previous arrangement.

I'm exhaused!!! LOL

I love IKEA's options. I use the Expedit of course. Also love their desk options. I use the trellis legs with a glass top with a built in shelf type space. I also use the billy bookcase for my magazines and albums. I have one of their long white shelves as well. You can see my space on my blog, Confetti and Ink

Love my expedit I have two 4x4 and two 2x4 on top all along one wall and the desk making the corner with that and a double bed my room is full but it does mean (on the rare occasion that I am tidy) that it can be really organised and easy to find what I need. I have b and q rattan baskets for my embellishments and cropper hopper plastic boxes cut down and vertical for paper and kits.

Make a Wish!

Hi I love my Ikea stuff - the FÖRHÖJA trolley is my cutting station, I have my Big Shot, Slice on top and the drawers hold my embossing folders and a range of sizzix dies while the shelves hold all my Tim Holtz dies and alpha dies with the old sizzix cases. The drawers by the way do hold 12x12 paper and you can buy a 3 drawer version as well.

My scrap desk is BJURSTA 12 seater extended and I have some expedit type cubes along it - I can sit and scrap and it is at my fingertips - also have a lazy susan on the desk, I want a smaller one to fit beside now to put my sewing machine on.

Some great ideas here, which I will take to my next home

My whole craft room/office is from IKEA!

If you click on my name and look for my "newest" space, you'll see all my furnishings (only the tall drawer cabinets are not from IKEA).

I have the galant table with the curve and two extensions love it. Also have a 5 cube Expedit tower and a 6 cube Expedit on its side. I also have two wall cabinets with glass doors that they no longer make... Underneath the galant I have my cubes it works out so well!

I am watching this thread. I can't afford or fit in any larger pieces right now, but I would love to find smaller organizational tools that I can use in both my scraproom and in my classroom at school.

I love my Raskog cart, but you have to get the Antonius liners. They are only $3-4 each (not sure of the exact price) but the are perfect for smaller organization. I use mine to organize my PL stuff!!! Have fun!!
