I got Madge the Boxer about 7-8 yrs ago; she was a rescue from a breeder, weighing only 42 lbs. She was thought to be 4 +/- yrs old at the time. She topped out at about 62 lbs and was the best dog ever. Lately, she had developed problems with her legs and circulation; the vet told me there were some spinal cord issues that were not sending signals to her body, and at her age, there was not much to be done for her.
She loved my kids and grandkids, she was always clowning and gave us years of laughs. Before they gave her the injection, my 13 yr old DS put his arms around my blubbering shoulders and said, 'Mom, this is a small price to pay, doing the best thing for her, for all the years she gave us'. She died looking at us with her big brown eyes.
I am absolutely heartbroken. Will my home ever feel the same?

I'm so very sorry  We lost our beloved dog (unexpectedly) a few months ago.
Does the home ever feel the same? Unfortunately, no, but it has to become a new normal. I can now talk about him without bawling, although there are times when I still cry many tears. There are still mornings when I wake up ready to check on him, come home from errands ready for him to greet me at the door and just truly miss him being a part of our family.
A friend shared this with me after our loss....

put Kellie down last August I didn't think we would
ever be able to laugh or smile again. It took a while
before the tears stopped. Remember her forever, as I'm

I am so sorry for your loss, and I think you are wonderful for staying with your girl until the end. As hard as it was for your family, the last thing she saw was her "pack" and that had to comfort her. May your memories of the happy times comfort you.

No, it never will. But you'll learn how to live with it feeling different. We have had dogs gone from us for over 20 years that we still miss. But you learn to live with it and move forward. But give yourself time. | |

So sorry for your loss. We lost 2 dogs in the last 2 years and we still miss them every day. Your house will never feel the same, but it gets easier to deal with over time.
