I thought it was supposed to be like that. Even though the reviews weren't that great, we decided to go anyway and we loved it.

Surely if it was out of place, the hair dressers would have fixed it.

That said,"I loved the movie."

Yeah, that stray lock of hair deliberately put out of place there bugged the crap out of me.

I really wish they had done a shorter version of Glinda's original crown to make more of a connection between the movies. And I think they should have shown the ruby slippers at the end somehow, also to make a connection between the two movies.

I enjoyed the movie but there are things I would have done differently. Better actors for one thing...

It distracted me at times - I found myself looking a few times to see if there was a matching tendril on the other side of her head.

Yea, I noticed it and it bothered me. I just don't personally like the look a tendrils falling down on the face, especially one sided.

Otherwise I thought the movie was okay, but nothing spectacular. I like how they tied in the scarecrow and lion, but I'm not sure where the tinman comes from. Also, would have been nice to see the evil witch with the red/white stockings and ruby slippers to tie into the other movie as well.

I know that it was intentional for the movie, but it still looked out of place, even when her hair was clearly restyled for another day/scene, there was that piece hanging there...

Overall we didn't really like the movie, we were very disappointed, the acting, the special effects. For some reason I thought they were going to tie it in to Wicked.

I agree malanell - the forehead trendil was planned and doesn't really bother me but the chunk of hair caught in the back of the crown is annoying
Regarding the ruby slippers - like a previous poster mentioned certain aspects were trademarked by Warner Brother - the ruby shoes for one and I also heard the emerald city had to be portrayed in a different shade of green

In the book, Dorothy's shoes are actually silver! The ruby slippers are a movie thing! Just a bit of Oz trivia.

The piece of hair may be a fashion thing but it drove me crazy throughout the entire movie..... more than all the people rustling candy wrappers and chomping on popcorn. So glad it wasn't just me who couldn't stand it.

I thought the movie was cute and was glad I saw it.

I totally agree. My BFF and I saw it together and we both said the same thing - several times. It didn't hurt that Danny Elfman did the music for it since he does the music for the majority of Depp's movies. I wondered if it was offered to him and he turned it down or couldn't do it.

I was thinking James McAvoy would have been a good choice. I think Depp would have made it too over the top.

I thought it was a cute film but was disappointed in the acting. It really wasn't very good. And considering the actors, that was a little bit surprising.

I really wish they had done a shorter version of Glinda's original crown to make more of a connection between the movies. And I think they should have shown the ruby slippers at the end somehow, also to make a connection between the two movies.

They don't have the rights to do this. Also, they weren't trying to connect the two movies in any way. Obviously, they're banking on the fans of the original going to see this one, but they were made by different studios and don't have anything to do with each other.

Also, Dorothy's shoes are actually silver. Because of the technicolor style of shooting for the original movie they made them red so they would show up on screen.

At the end of the movie they show Glinda's feet when she's kissing Oz, she's wearing the silver slippers. Total set up for a sequel

I loved the movie and thought it was very entertaining. I was a little disappointed though. Frank L Baum was known to be a huge feminist supporter and purposely wrote his books to have strong female main characters with males having mostly supporting roles. So I couldn't get that out of my mind as the witches fawned all over the wizard and needed him to 'save' them. Just a tiny vent

Also, James Franco's teeth are out of control. Every time he smiled I thought of his character in Pineapple Express!

I don't know a single person in real life that actually liked it. Even a little. Many of them hated it as much as I did...and for all the same reasons. James Franco didn't even make the short list.

Yes this drove me nuts as well. But it's the style, but they could have done better continuity on it.

As for those who want a tie into the "original" movie, you have to remember that this movie is not based on that movie at all. It's based upon the works of Frank Baum, and this part of the story comes LONG before there's a Dorothy and she visits Oz. So those tie ins would be completely out of place. There were many things that fell into place for the eventual Dorothy visit, but we're not even close to that. There are 15 books in the Oz series, the Dorothy trip is really just a small part of the whole story. If I remember correctly, the Dorothy trip is very different in the books, and like the horrible Gene Wilder version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in the 70s, they took the story and changed it to make more "Hollywood". This seems somewhat truer to the Oz stories, though I haven't read them in a long time. That will be remedied shortly.

For some reason I thought they were going to tie it in to Wicked.
That was my first impression when the trailers came out, however Wicked is very far out of the true Oz lexicon. It's kind of like the "prequel" written for Anne of Green Gables, it's not true Oz. Good story on stage (the book is tedious at best) but Wicked just uses the movie version of Oz to tell a story.

As for Depp, in the Oz role, I get what you're saying but I don't think that it would be a good choice for this type of character. Maybe later in the series but not now. Franco may not have been the best choice but he was a good choice for the type of man Oz is at that part of the story.

That's why I didn't open this thread yesterday.

Didn't bother me at all...I thought Michelle Williams looked beautiful. I don't understand why people fixate on little things like that. Is it an OCD thing?

And I don't get all the negativity. It was an enjoyable, colorful movie. I don't think they were going for any Oscar nominations.

I'm picky and only go to 2 or 3 movies a year because during most of them, I get fidgety and wonder how much longer I have to sit there. This movie kept my attention the whole time.

Agreed! I love this genre and I love the world of Oz. I read the books years ago and never really liked the Judy Garland Oz movie (and to this day do not understand the obsession with it), so I am happy to see something resembling the world of Oz that I remember. Now I have to go and read the books again, to remember certain things that kept pulling at my memory as I watched the movie. I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with this.

I saw it yesterday. The hair did not bother me.

It would have been nice to see more Oz characters tied into the story. I was hoping it would be more Alice in Wonderland type with the characters. There are some odd ones in the books that could have been there when Oz comes to the land of Oz. I liked that they used China girl. In former books, China town (not sure that was the correct name) was intact.

I loved the movie, though I have to admit was distracted by the hair. DD didn't go but saw this picture and told me she would have been going nuts - and I agree, she is very OCD about stuff like that, ha ha!

I thought Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz did a wonderful job, really enjoyed them, and I agree with others that was very disappointed in Mila Kunis, she just didn't transition well at all from her emotions or convey her character well. I love James Franco, so I loved him in it (am frankly tired of Johnny Depp so would have hated him in this) but I can see if you didn't care for him you wouldn't like him. Well I guess that goes for any movie if you don't like an actor who plays lead, right??!!

I did kind of think the overall theme of the movie was a bit mature, though, more of a love story as such - ? But overall I did like it a lot.
