I use their site a ton and really like to read the reviews. I've thought I might start leaving my own since we do travel quite a bit each year.
Have you ever left your own reviews?

Yes - I've only left 3 and added some photos as well - I suggest you do so - reviews can be really helpful, especially for less traveled destinations. I plan to leave more reviews, just haven't taken the time to do it yet.

Yes, I review frequently. One big reason I do it is that it forces me to write a succinct summation of an experience (like at a restaurant or attraction) and then I can just copy and paste it into my scrapbook journaling. For whatever reason, I find that thinking I "must" write the couple of paragraphs for the review asap gives me motivation to write the story up that I wouldn't otherwise have. I've been glad for it as I would never remember what I ate at a certain restaurant later, but since I wrote it in my review, I then have it.

I've left 2 reviews. The last review was of our hotel stay in Orlando in late Feb. and the manager of the hotel contacted me to thank me for my review which was largely positive. She also told me to give them my contact info so they could send me "a free gift" which I assume was a discount on our next stay; I didn't respond because we won't be going back there anytime soon.
I just received an email from Trip Advisor today telling me that my first review back in 2002 or 2003 was in the first 10% of reviews on the site.

Yes. I write some reviews and I post on one of the forums

I have never had a bad experience when I have followed other travelers suggestions. I write reviews fairly frequently.

I don't travel much but like to leave and read reviews. Hopefully, I'll be doing a lot more traveling down the road, so it will be a very useful site.

I love Trip Advisor, too. I have gotten such wonderful information, and I love that people will post answers to my questions in different country boards. I've started leaving reviews as a way to give back to the community and help others, too. I think I've done around 10 or 15, not many, so I was really surprised to get an email from them the other day saying I was in the top 11% for most read reviewers on Trip Advisor. I guess the vast majority of their members don't post, because I can't figure out how else in the top 11%, lol.

I review frequently on Trip Advisor. I don't love it (and sometimes it feels like a chore) but I have received fantastic information from this site. It is only fair to provide reviews as many of the reviews I have read have allowed us to stay in/eat at fabulous places.

I have never left a review but that is a good idea. We have used them many times. Same with yelp and I have written reviews for them. I think I will do that in our next trip and I love the idea if adding photos many if the places we have gone don't have a lot of photos and I love to look at them when planning.

My only problem with them is that the review have to be 50+ words. Sometimes I just don't have that much too say, LOL

I do travel a lot and I use Trip Advisor even more! I benefit from others' time invested in leaving reviews and need to "pay it back". Definitely.
Thanks for the reminder. I'm taking two trips over the next two weeks, and will start a new "tradition" of contributing starting then!

|Posted: 3/15/2013 8:18:28 PM|We use TA when we plan a trip and I leave reviews too. We live in a tourist destination so there are plenty of things to review without traveling. If I book a hotel or condo for family to stay in while visiting us, I review those too.
I have to drawsting back pack, tags and I think some stickers.

Tripadvisor were awful - when the reviews sad they were great. And I'm not picky - but I don't want CLEAN! Not sure what a few people were thinking I do still occasionally read them - but just assume they may be wrong lol and leave reviews at times.

Those of us that run a business love the reviews too. It really is a way of spreading the word about your location because potential customers trust other people's reviews more than what they hear from the business itself.

I definately leave reviews, not only for the places I travel to but also places and restaurants around my city. I really rely on the TA reviews when I travel so I feel like I should give back. The more reviews that people leave the better.

The user reviews are what drives the site, so by using the site myself, I kinda feel obligated to leave reviews in return.

|Posted: 3/15/2013 9:13:59 PM|I love TripAdvisor and use it for restaurant reviews, mostly. I like that the reviews are longer than 50 words for the most part. Yelp seems to be just a place to post hatefulness and unhappiness. I don't need that much misery; TripAdvisor is more positive and helpful. For instance, on Yelp, I seem to read a lot of "Hate this place, it sucks" reviews. Contrasted to TripAdvisor, there are reviews that say, "While they didn't have a vast wine inventory, the gnocchi was perfection. So if your focus is food instead of wine, this is where you want to go." I want a *reason* with a comment, y'know? TripAdvisor provides that... mostly.
Your mileage may vary.

I go to the reviews when I travel and find them very helpful. I write reviews and try to leave my honest opinion. When I am reading them I want to know about a place before I try it and invest money in something that is not worthwhile. I have had people read my reviews from other countries and that is cool to me.

|Posted: 3/15/2013 9:36:56 PM|I have left a few - felt like it was 'payment' since I use that site every time I book someplace new. I spend about 150 days a year in hotels, so it's a lot!
In fact, it was a great help this week. I was going to book at a hotel that looked 'normal' on their site. TA review from last month said it's all under renovation & a mess and put up a photo of a 'stop work' order from the county. Called the hotel, and they confirmed this. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't read that review!
I have had a few people email me with questions based on reviews I wrote. Always happy to help!

I use TA all the time and have left 20+ reviews plus I post quite a bit on a couple of the forums. I also got an email this week telling my my reviews were in the top 5% read which I thought was cool.
I am a very balanced reviewer and will say positives and negatives so that I give a good indication of what the place was actually like. I generally don't worry too much about the odd negative review, the things some people complain about can be so trivial. On the other hand, I have changed a booking in Thailand when lots of reviews had complaints about cleanliness. Very helpful when planning a holiday.

I've posted quite a few reviews and made a lot of forum posts. I've gleaned a lot of great recommendations from TA, and like to share my experiences back. I wonder if everyone that has posted reviews got those "top %" emails, I got one on Tuesday that said I was in the top 2%. I haven't made a review since last Sept - I wonder if they're trying to get more people back? lol
