Look for inspiration online or in a book?
Pick out and print photos?
Clean up the mess?
Watch process videos?
Check out the 2Peas forums?
Pull out some photos, pick your paper, and get to work?

If it's anything other than the last one, how much time do you think you spend on that before you actually put the photos on the table and get to scrapbooking?

It depends. Sometimes, I just want to scrap and use some particular paper in my stash, so I pull that paper and any embellies, etc. Other times, I already know what photos I want to scrap, so I pull them and then decide on the paper.

But it is always pull paper or pull photos when I sit down to scrap.

I actually consider the other activities mentioned "being in my scraproom" as opposed to "scrapping," if that makes any sense. I sit down to upload and print photos. Or I sit down to watch videos. Or I sit down to Pea. (LOL ) I'm always pretty much ready to scrap when I "sit down to scrap" and so I just get to it.

I generally clean up at the END of a scrapping session, so a new one almost always starts with picking out photos.

I'm going to answer your question as if it read when you sit down to start a project....

The reason is because I tend to mostly do mini albums so I usually select and print my photos, then select my papers and other products I plan to use on the mini...followed up by turning on my laptop and either going to Youtube or Ustream. Not so much because I'm following the same project as the Ustreamer or Youtuber is doing, but I treat it more like going to a crop only I'm scrapping along with someone on my computer each of us working on our own projects.

I go right for my pictures! And then for a source of inspiration - lately I have been big on sketch blogs!

I pick out the pictures first ... if my scrap space isn't messy. If not, I have to organize first. I have no trouble continuing to create in chaos but can't start in it.

I actually pick out my products first, well after I clean up the last mess. I am inspired by the products. Often, I will go ahead and create my background too. Then i go on a search for a photo or photos that works with what I have picked out. If there is a story to go along with those, great! If not, that is ok too and I do not let it stop me from scrapbooking.

I probably already have the inspiration, so I don't count that part. I get inspired, and then order photos, so scrapping comes a little bit later.

So, as soon as I go to WG and get the three layouts worth of photos I ordered last night, I will most likely pull some new paper out of the bag it's still in, grab some cardstock that I bought the same time but is already out of the bag because one sheet was needed already, and arrange some of the photos on the cardstock. I know already the pattern paper is going to be cut according to how much room the photos will take.

And then I'll go from there.

I almost always start with my photos, but I do spend time looking at sketches, figuring out if I have the right paper (or not), hunting down sketches, hunting down inspiration here at Two Peas and other places before I move onto printing photos.

7 years to get here... So now what?

I usually have an idea on the photo(s) I want to work with, so generally the first thing I do is editing in Photoshop. And then I try to design the layout of the page. Since taking a couple of Kerri Bradford's classes recently, I have been designing my pages in the Silhouette software. I've done my last 3 layouts like this and I can't believe how much more smoothly my process is. Now when I cut a piece of paper, it's the right size! And, since doing it this way, I have been creating so many more of my own embellishments. I'm loving it!

I'm a chrono scrapper, so I definitely grab for photos first. Next, if it's a themed page (Christmas, baseball, vacation) I go for my iris container that has all the paper & embellishments that go w/that theme. After rifling thru that, it's on to a sketch or idea book.

Oh Noell, the first thing I do now I pull up an episode of paper clipping roundtable! So glad I found your podcast in January!

I do usually get pics out first, then pick some papers then maybe a sketch. Title and embellishments come next.

I love the process of planning a layout, so I often think about my photos and come up with ideas before I even sit down to scrapbook. Once I sit down, my photos are usually the first thing I bring out. Next I will find complimentary paper. Granted, all of those (pictures included) are subject to change.

I like to start with picking out my photos thrn the paper and embellies. If I need inspiration, I like to go through my folder of sketches or find a page I like to scrap lift either here in the gallery, or magazines I have kept.

I pick a photo that I'm in the mood to scrap, then I pull out about 100 sheets of patterened paper before giving up and falling back on the basic kraft.

Sometimes, I put up a good front and try to search online for some inspiration, determined to use a PP for the base/background.

But then I just cut it in strips and use it on the dang kraft.

I always have to clean up before I begin. Then I generally choose the photos that are calling to me. And like others said, next comes the hundreds of papers. Sadly, I usually go to bed after that.

I clean the huge pile of junk off my 8 foot craft table. seriously it has become the local dumping ground and it is driving me bonkers!! I have to clean and rearrange before my cameo gets here.

If I dont have to clean first I choose some fun photos, grab some coordinating paper and scrap until Im interrupted. Usually when my tiny baby cries

Then I forget/leave it there/have other crap I HAVE to do and it waits patiently for my scatterbrained return.

Normally, I choose photos first thing. Lately I have been going through the piles of magazines I have marked ideas in. I take the magazine and look at the ideas and decide if the marked page is really something I want to scraplift or try for a technique. If so, I do it right away. If not the magazine goes in to a box to get rid of. This has been working well for me the last few weeks. I really need to get through the magazines.

Choose my music. I really love to scrapbook to music and so that always come first.

After that it depends on what my plan (and mood) is:

Pull out the album I'm currently working on and gather all my supplies for it-photos, tools, and other things and sit down to play.

Sometimes I'm in the mood to scrapbook a kit I recently received so I'll work on that instead.

Or maybe I'm in an organizing mood and so I'll pull out my stamp index that I'm working on and spend some time adding to it.

I used to always start with photos - but now each layout starts in a different way.
Sometimes it is the photo, sometimes the story, or designs to try, papers to use.

I love Shimelle's starting points & always have a few prepared & waiting to go. I think her "Perfect Collection" class was a game changer for me.
I seldom run out of ideas, which is great because I'm never going to run out of photos.

I do PL so I usually sit down and go through the pics I have printed and start deciding what pockets they might go in. Then I just dive into cards and embellies and get to work. Each week's spread usually ends up being a 2-3 dominant color scheme depending on what's in the photos.

I am a project lifer. That's why I am taking so many pictures.....

I usually already have my photos picked out before I decide to scrap, so I start with the paper and embellishments. Then I go to my Cameo and decide which embellishments I want to cut. I almost always use my Cameo so that is my first step. Sometimes I start with the Cameo even if I don't have a project in mind. I just like to play with my Cameo! Just looking through all the files I have can give me inspiration.

I look at my photos and decide what paper I'll use. I'll take out a good stash of stuff to see if it works with my photos. I'll look for embellishments too. Then I go through idea books and play around until I'm happy.

After days of searching my fav sites, I
1. pick a few "challenges" I.e. a sketch, technique, etc I want to try
2. Check my "to do list" & pick a story, event I want to scrap. I LIKE lists!
3. Pic the pictures of the story, event that energize me.
4. Look for PP, embellies that go with the papers and would work with the challenge I want to try
5. If I want to use a specific product, I may end up using different photos

Great question.

Clean up any mess from the previous session
Select the photos I am going to use
Pick out coordinating papers (love picking out just the right papers)
Determine arrangement of photos
Decide how I am going to title and journal the layout
Pick out coordinating embellishments (color and theme)
Make all the elements of the page
Arrange on page
Tweek arrangement
Glue everything down

LOL at the wine!

I would say the whole process takes me from 2 to 5 hours. I enjoy the process though and don't rush it.

Noell- nice to see you around 2Ps more often. I need to catch up on my RT episodes.

I love the "clean up my mess" first, very honest! I would say I'm the same, or shove a pile to the side.
Then it's throw on a podcast, tv show or music and then print the photos if I have a sketch.
Yesterday I realized how much I hate waiting to print my photos though, so I printed a bunch.
Now I'm thinking I should stamp a bunch of stuff too to have ready to colour, and make a box of photos and stamped stuff.
Not to suck up but I put on PRT lately. I've run out though so it's been Jay and Silent Bob Get Old podcast.
