Happy April! Bring on the sunshine, warmer weather, and scrapping!

Who are the Young Scrappers? We are a group of "young" 20-something to 30-something year old girls who created a group to share our interest in scrapbooking! We take the "young" part lightly - it's all about how young you feel. Feel free to join in the chat! Just post an intro so we know who you are. And post links to your layouts here - we love to share our work & leave some praise!

-------------------------------

We have a brand new challenge for the year:

For the Pinspiration Challenge, we collaborated to create a list of 52 challenges - one for each week this year! The challenges were based off of layouts we had pinned on Pinterest or bookmarked online. It is a way to use some of that inspiration we are constantly pinning on Pinterest!

There really are no rules with this challenge! It is more just a way to motivate each other to scrapbook. Choose challenges from the list that you feel inspired by, create something, and share it with us! The goal is to see how many challenges you can complete in one year.

Here is the link to the challenge list to download: challenge sheet

And here is the Pinterest board with all the challenges and sample layouts: Pinspiration challenge on Pinterest

Every month, we will have a hostess to keep us motivated. For March, our hostess is RACHEL! Here are the details for this month:

Happy April ladies!

It's a rainy day here, but hoping it doesn't stop me from crafting. Going to my monthly doctors appointment then hopefully I can put together 3 pages in my mini and knit the rest of the day.

Hoping to have time to play around with the kit this month, but I doubt it. Going to try atleast.

Hope everyone is doing good and has a great day.

We have at least 4 inches of snow right now and it's coming down steadily still. Happy Spring Break, kids!

Well, let's look at the bright side, this could be a snowed-in scrapbooking day! Or I could take the kids sledding. Yes, I'm just trying not to think of the poor baby cows!!

Rachel, I think my kit from last month would have gone perfect with your challenge, haha. So, I don't know what I'll do this time, but I'm thinking hard about it! Thanks for the challenge!

Did anyone do any pranks yesterday? I told my boys that the school called and they had to get ready and go to school - spring break was canceled. That lasted about 10 seconds. They were seriously sad about it! I felt so awful I didn't carry it any further.

Good morning!
Day 2 of subbing in high school for the afternoon. It's pretty easy - the student teacher has complete control of the class in the first block & I got to talk to the teacher in the second block to make sure they have plenty of work to keep them busy

Michelle- hi! I don't think I got a chance to "meet" you yet? Either way, I'm Monica, 27y/o, from Kansas City. Currently substitute teaching but also job searching to find a more consistent & permanent position. Are you just getting started scrapbooking? Or you just keep your stash small? Mine is out of control!

Elizabeth- Turn your rainy day into a crafty day! I am so itching to scrap... it's been a few weeks.

Loni- aww, bummer! We had snow here during most of the schools' spring breaks, too. So lame! We are finally getting spring weather this week, though. Yay! Oh hey, I sent a service ticket to Matt about that class and he gave me a credit, too! Pretty sure I'm going to use it for the new Amy Tan mini workshop that just started. Wanna join me?

catch up in a bit later today...

HAPPY WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY!

April is a month dedicated to raising awareness for autism spectrum disorder. ASD is close to my heart as I work with children with autism.

1/88 kids in Canada are born with autism... The rate in the US is higher and continues to grow.

Please wear blue today if possible, learn, share and spread the word!

Loni - LOL at that April Fools trick! I could only imagine how sad they would have been (I would be too!)

Monica - I'm not sure if we've met either, but I'm Michelle, 19 and studying graphic design and marketing in Boston, MA. I'm not new to scrapbooking, but since I've grown up in a city, and am now in another one for college, I don't have much space to keep lots of supplies. Also, I have a lot of old supplies from my early teen years that I don't really like anymore, but it makes me feel bad for buying too much new stuff - which is sad, because I'm a sucker for trends, and there are so many new collections out there that I want!!
That Amy Tangerine workshop sounds great... I'm thinking about signing up for it! It IS only $12, if I remember correctly...

Doctors went okay I guess. Keep having Braxton hicks and Doc is concerned about how many I am having in an hour. If they keep up during the day I will have to go to the hospital to get checked out. Hopefully it's nothing and if it is I hope they can stop the labor for a few more weeks. hoping to relax today so I guess scrapbooking is out because I have an already busy day.

Michelle: I hear you on wanting all the new trends. New supplies comes out way to fast. It's good you have self control with buying.

*RACHEL: I'm soo sorry but I'm going to have to pull out of the swap. I got my April work schedule for both families and I only have 1 weekend off as of right now which means not much play time. Sad I have to pull out!

Loni: wow still snowing, that's crazy! When does it usually stop? That's a funny joke

Monica: glad to hear your back working a bit!

Elizabeth: OH NO! I hope everything turns out okay. Relax! When are you due again?

On a little "break" right now. One boy is back at school and the other is here with me eating lunch. Kobe, his mom and I maybe going to the stable where his mom keeps her horses and ride! I've rode horses before, but I can never seem to keep them controlled so she is (hopefully) going to teach me to control a horse properly! Cannot complain for getting paid to horseback ride and hang out with horses

Melissa: horse back riding sounds fun. Enjoy it. I am due in another 3 months. July 20th is my original due date, but measuring a week early from sonogram. Hoping to get my growth scan in 5 more weeks to check the baby out.

Been trying to relax and even tried to take a nap on the rocker, but the girls interrupted it every chance they got. Now my day is about to be rush rush and go go. Have ballet, dinner to fix and church. Uh and my back has been hurting all day. Maybe I should have got checked out at the hospital. off I go.

Elizabeth, I'm worried about you. You need to relax! I really hope you feel better soon! You need me to come and nanny for a bit

So I am thinking about getting a Cameo. I have a circut and just never use it so I want to sell it. I see so many rad projects with cuts by the cameo... Input? Not quite sure how it works so if anyone could give me a little info that would be great!

Elizabeth - I hope everything's okay and you can get some good rest and relaxation! You deserve it!

Melissa - Wow, horseback riding! I haven't been since I've been a little girl, but it's always something I would love to do, if it was something more available where I am.
I totally agree with you about the Cameo - I also have a Cricut, and nothing ever makes it onto my projects. The Cameo has also been on my wishlist for a while because of all the cool stuff I've been seeing out there! Sorry I can't give you any more info about it, though.

Thanks ladies I am trying to relax. Skipping church class so hopefully I can take some meds since of course now I have a headache. Had it this morning, but it wasn't as bad.

Melissa: me too! I want a cameo, but don't think I can convince hubby to buy me one especially since I got a whole bunch of new Cricut cartridges on sale during bf. The cameo seems to cut so much better and the details are amazing. I try cutting small details on the Cricut and it tears EVERY time. I say go for it if you can sell yours.

Haha, I know I was so depressed about the snow, but it is almost all melted now, though it was still snowing past 11am. The kids are soaked from jumping in the puddles right now. Melissa, we get snow late into the season like now, but it never stays too long. April is rather late, but a rogue storm will probably come even into May. It's a pretty high elevation here, is probably why. When I left six inches here, there was not even one in town 8 miles North.

Monica, probably yes! I was looking at the workshop this morning. I'll look into it -but we might be moving, so I'll let you know very soon! Go ahead without me, though. I'll get to it eventually.

Michelle, I thought they liked school, haha. Yes, do the class with us! Eh, you should buy new stuff when you can, in my opinion. It's part of the hobby getting to try out the trends and buy some new pretty things.

Elizabeth, how are your contractions, is it just tightness or do you have pain. I pushed my appointment back again - I hate going to the Dr.
blush: I hope you feel better! Take it easy! I'd take those girls for a few hours if I could.

Melissa, that is so cool! I'm the same way, after about half an hour the horse and I stop getting along - I know it's because I'm not bossy enough like I'm supposed to be. I have the SD and I think it's great to have - I need to use it more.

Geez our thread moves fast! I have to go out soon but I wanted to drop by and say Happy April to everyone! And also chime in about the Cameo

I finally got a Cameo (thanks to the boyfriend!) for my birthday last year and it is everything it's hyped up to be. I was worried because some people said it was loud, cut too slow, etc. but I don't think it's as bad as some people describe.

The way it works: It is a cutting machine that doesn't need any cartridges or dies. You hook it up to your computer and plug in a power source then you are ready to cut! It comes with the software that you can open up shapes and fonts to cut out. You can download shapes/borders/frames/etc. from their Silhouette store online or you can make your own with any photo you have on your computer. I mostly cut a bunch of shapes at one time so I have a bunch of die cuts ready to scrap. It's really convenient, and I think cheaper in the long run than a Cricut (because of cartridge costs). But I've never had any die-cutting machine before the Cameo so I have nothing to really compare it to. But I love it, and I use it as much as I can! The only downside for me is that it takes up a lot of space. I don't have my own scrap room so I have to move things around on my desk everytime I use it.

Oops, tha was longer than intended, but hopefully that helps! And look for deals online, my BF said he got it at Photobella because that's where it was cheapest or something. Have a great week~

Loni: that's crazy that you guys will probably get more snow in May. . It's not so much the girls (their sweet when needed) but I have all the other daily household mommy chores to keep me busy. I am switching out the girls clothes for the season and that is taking longer than expected. Did one which wasn't bad because she has all dresses for the summer which made it super easy, but the youngest has 2 filled bins and I haven't even took the older clothes off hangers. The contractions aren't bad, but that's what the dr is worried about. she doesn't trust my judgement and honestly I don't either. Lol. I was the girl walking around 7cm dilated talking about I am fine and about to take Glori to the park . She still tells that story to other clients. I think I will be fine for a another few months. Sry such a long post. I'll try to chat with you soon. Hope everything is going good with you and the baby.

Night ladies and I look forward to getting some scrapping done tomorrow hopefully after I straighten my kids room out a little and do homework since we skipped today.

hey y'all!
No scrapping still tonight, but I did get my 25+ layouts from the last 3 months put away into albums. But now I am realizing I need more albums. So my question for you:

Where is the best place to find 12x12 D-ring albums for a decent price?

I don't even care about color or brand (although I do mostly have American Crafts cloth ones). Just something that can hold my layouts!

Chiming in on the Cameo thing - I completely agree with Camille! I think it's pretty awesome. I was in the same boat - had a Cricut Expression before and I just never used it. So I finally took the plunge - sold my Expression & all the cartridges, which allowed me to buy a Cameo, plus some. I LOVE that I don't have to have cartridges. I can use basically any clipart image online to make into a cutting file. It is so much easier to design & create with the Silhouette software. And I also love that I can tell it EXACTLY what dimensions I want the image to be and where to cut it on the mat. So I'd say go for it!

Elizabeth - I seriously hope the end of your pregnancy gets better & that you start feeling better. I'm worried about you, too! You need to take care of yourself. Take it easy & relax!

Loni- Moving?! Need more details! Think I'm going to go ahead & sign up for the Amy T class. Join when you can!

Michelle- You should definitely do the Amy Tan class with us! It would be fun

Melissa- Horseback riding sounds awesome! How did it go? I haven't ridden a horse since I was a little kid, and even then it was pretty much just being led around by someone else. My dad and stepmom did actually live in the country for a while, but I wasn't into riding horses... too much of a girly girl! One of my brothers did all the horse 4-H stuff!

Where's everyone else?!! We're missing some peeps!

Didn't get the chance to ride today as it started to pour and the mom came down with an allergic reaction to something... But hopefully we will go this week or next week! She leaves on the 14th for NC to see her bf so she wants me to take Kobe trail riding while shes gone. I'll be sure to post pic(s) when I go on insta!

OH, and I joined the Amy Tan workshop too!

Cam, thanks for all the info girl. I hinted to Jonny that he can get me that for my birthday (mentioned I found it on sale now lol)!

Elizabeth, might I ask, how did you decide you wanted to home school your children?

Monica, I have tons of LOs that need to be put away too! Thanks for the info! Hoping to get one soon
**Best place to find 12x12's: I use the AC cloth ones too and order online from J's when they're on sale (usually 11.99) and get them shipped to my US addy. In Canada they cost 29.99 at M's!

Monica- I love the WRMK albums especially now that M's carries them. They put their albums on a 50% sale every now & then. I stocked up on BF. so now I'm good for a while.

Hey gals. I never seem to be able to keep up haha.

I'm still unemployed but hopeful.
I've been doing a lot of cleaning out of the house. I used to save everything so now there are tubs & tubs of my stuff stored in my parents basement. Or should I say my house for now.

Which leads me to think my books & scrapping stuff needs cleaning out.

Ok any of you have small storage spaces for your stuff? How do you keep it under control? Do you have a rule? I'm thinking I would scrap more if I actually used it all up instead of having an overwhelming amount. Plus if I ever move I'll have very little space. So any suggestions would be helpful. Plus I do still have a local scrap store that has yard sales twice a year but the spring just passed. I should have cleaned it all out before then haha

Okay ladies crazy beginning to my Wednesday.

My husband just got in from working on his paper, I know 2am, and he noticed the right side of my car was hit pretty good and would require some work. I was sleeping so knowing that I obviously couldn't sleep after that. I had to go check out the extent of the damage and man someone nailed into me on the right side today while I was at ballet earlier. I must have over looked it because it was raining like crazy and when I open my doors to let the girls in the door probably blocks it.

Sucks that someone would hit my car so bad and leave without so much as a note or anything. Now I have to pay to get it fixed and that is so not fair. Just venting off a little steam and trying to convince myself to get some sleep. but I guess I'll either sit up and knit or read my bible for sanity.

This next part is Melissa and it's super long so feel free to skip. Thanks.

Melissa: to be brief it was a decision my husband and I thought hard on and felt it was the perfect match for our family. It's hard and I honestly don't think it's for everyone, but I felt comfortable taking on that task and there are days I want to give up and days I appreciate being able to homeschool my children. There are a number of reasons why we decided but I won't go through the whole list. Mainly I will tell you quickly what I love about HS because ultimately this is what keeps me going. No special order to my thinking too. I love that the girls can go at their own pace and master a subject instead of going at a spiral pace and being to afraid to ask the teacher for help that they end up getting lost in the subject. Glori is in between grades which is perfect because it is her true learning pace and if she went to school she would easily get bored with kindergarten work in certain subjects. I love being able to teach her a certain subject that she enjoys in different ways and make it fun. She loves space so we can do a whole space theme with reading, math, science and such. I honestly love seeing her grow and learn and to know she is safe is my number one. Now with everything there is drawbacks, but there is always a solution I am sure. Right now the only problem Glori has with HS is not being able to ride the yellow bus. Lol we had the opportunity to get on one and she chickened out. The socialization aspect that everyone loves to bring up is another issue, but we address it by getting out and meeting new people at the park, library, ballet, church, and HS groups to name a few. I enjoy it and will continue as long as I possibly can and if they have to attend public school that is okay too.

Rachel - I'm going to just do one kit for the swap. I can do misc or summer whichever you want me to do. Just let me know which so I can decide what I need to get.

Elizabeth - can you drink decaf tea to help keep you calm?

I'll come back and read more when I get a chance to really read everything.

Elizabeth, that totally sucks about your car! i have the worst luck with hit and runs (3 spots on my car). karma will bite em in the butt! the yellow bus part had me laughing - too cute! I agree about learning at the own pace thing. Lots of times I wish I had more time for certain subjects that struggled at. My friend that was HS, he had 8 siblings and his mom HS's until they reach grade 8 so they can get the socialization part. It's pretty cool to see his youngest siblings do HS. Good for you for doing it! One of my tops working with kids with autism is sort of like a teacher. Although usually sessions are only 2 hours, its very intense and repetitive and I do get tired of it.

Bethany, CHECK Dollar stores for containers for storage! I also use bigger Rubbermaid ones. With containers, I made sure they can stack! I also have a cart from ikea which has 3 shelves and rolls which is great!

Melissa: believe it or not with HS the great thing is you don't spend the same amount of hours like traditional school. For kindergarten they recommend only about an hour. I usually do more depending, but even in upper grades you tend to spend between 2 to 4 hours and done. I love when parents tell me they are against HS or don't understand it. The best i've heard is "i can never teach my children." We teach our children from birth until our death I believe. We are practically already HS at 1,2... Whatever age. Even when they get older we are still teaching them about either life, religion, and if you help with HW then you are teaching them too. Kids with special needs can be harder to HS, but I feel they benefit the most.

Okay enough yabba about HS. Lol.

So this morning isn't going great, but hubby is buying lunch and hoping after a nap I can feel better. Nothing is wrong just in a mood. Hoping a little knitting, scrapbooking and bible reading will help.

Elizabeth, "We teach our children from birth until our death" totally true and 110% agree!

So I've found the cameo on sale for like $220 including shipping so I think I'm gonna buy it!

Melissa-I have plenty of containers & plenty of stuff haha I've got to downsize. or find a way to creatively store lots of stuff in a little space. (hopefully moving somewhere in the next 6-12 months)

Elizabeth-that sucks about your car. Doesn't the insurance pay for that kind of stuff or do you not want your premium to go up?

So I've been wanting to scrap all week but I can't I busted my tailbone last week I went & bought a doughnut pillow thinking it would help. Nope. Seems the way I took the 2 hardwood stairs on my butt wasn't square on my tailbone so it doesn't work. but on the bright side I could clean out stuff so that when it does feel better ill know what I have haha

WOW, it's been a loong time since I've logged on. Quick update, I moved from my previous apartment to another one, and with downstairs neighbors that don't believe they own the place. Still am currently employeed but with more responsibilites, hence the MIA status. So the baby is walking, more like running, now and is a little trouble maker. So that's a super quick update. Haven't done much SBing due to having everything in boxes but I did finish a winter mini and some layouts before the move. Having a crop next Saturday, hopefully I can get back on track and not lose my mojo.

Elizabeth - I hope you are feeling better with the contractions. You are always on the go and it's so nice that you get to relax with knitting or scrapbooking. So, sorry about your car, people have no common courtesy anymore.

Also, I understand about the trends and buying all the new stuff. They have come out with such cute things, and I want it all. I try to do them myself without buying them. For example, the new Amy Tan stiching kit, that is something I want but I can simply do it w/o the template, and the ombre affect on paper can be done with using different inks and blending on the page. It never hurts to try alternatives, instead of buying.

As for the organization, I just had to do that (such a pain). Having the cubed drawers and baskets worked really well. You can stack stuff in there and put it on the shelf to maximise the space and it doesn't look messy either.

Sorry for such a long post girls, I didn't think I had that much to say but I was wrong. Hope everyone has a lovely Friday!!!!

Thanks ladies for the warm wishes. I am feeling much better and hubby got me some Tylenol PM for sleep and I was out like a rock last night at 10pm.

Bethany: I have insurance and they will cover it, but with any insurance you have a deductible which I don't have the money for right now so we are going to wait until starts work in July. Hope your tailbone gets better soon. Ouch!

Melissa: that's awesome you are going to get the Cameo. I might make the change next year or wait for a new cutter. I need to get some use out of my Cricut though. Lol. I have only used a handful of times and I still have a ton of cartridges that came with it I haven't touched yet.

Ruthie: thanks for tips on the new trends. Hopefully your crop gets you in the scrapping mood and you enjoy yourself.

Desiree: I can drink the tea, but honestly tea doesn't help me relax. It's more I needed sleep. Haven't had good sleep in weeks and only get about 5 hours of sleep and have to wake up and keep my schedule going.

Cleaned my room up a bit and made room on my sewing table to scrapbook on. So hoping after I finish laundry I will want to scrapbook for a little. I finally started a new ball of yarn on my blanket last night so I might knit this weekend, but hoping to find time for both.

Have a great weekend ladies!

Hey everyone!

I am moving in a couple of weeks. So, after I get my swap stuff together I'm packing up the scrap room! I may not be around much this month, but I'll be in my very own scrapbooking room for NSD!!

Working on photos for PL right now, then off to wash some walls when my tummy settles. Love them braxton hicks.

elizabeth, glad you are feeling better!

loni, yay for your own scrapbooking room! i want to see pics on insta girl!

i'm online ordering the cameo as we speak!I DID IT

i'm back with my other family today... the 10 year old with autism is away visiting his grandparents, and the 2 year old is napping. he has grown so much and puts together full sentences now its too freaking cute!

***i need some input ladies about my job(s)... so most of you know i work for 2 families. the family that i am working with right now is through an agency and the contract ends june 14th. now the other family (separated billionaires) hired another nanny for while i was away and she works m/f since i am with my other family. she recently got charged DUI and is loosing her license in 3 months for year. she is originally from the UK so she is going to see if she can get her license back by going back and returning. long story short the dad does not know of her DUI charge and i have a feeling he will want to fire her since she won't be able to drive plus her charge. i am not sure when exactly she looses her license, but i am wanting to work full-time with them once my contract? any suggestions on what i should do? i know i have to wait and see...

Loni: take it easy during the move. Gotta love those BH. You are so lucky to be moving early. I just found out we are suppose to be moving July 1st. Crazy. Going to try to move half way through June though so I can get settled, but if not oh well.

Melissa: awesome for buying the Cameo! Are you selling the Cricut? About the nanny situation I am unsure how to address it, but I do want to say the current nanny for the rich family should tell them her situation truthfully. I wouldn't want my child driving around with someone who got a DUI. Anyway. Try to have a conversation with the family about your intentions on working for them full-time. Also let it be know on your start date and such. I hope it works out for you.

I just put together a scrapbook kit I using my basic grey paper I purchased back in October and haven't used yet .got all my pictures together too and now hoping to find the time to scrap them. Got my pile of laundry folded, dishes loaded, and bedroom cleaned. I think I deserve a little scrap night by myself.

Anyone else scrapping this weekend?

Elizabeth, yes someone is buying my cartridges/cricut
The mom actually knows of the DUI. The other nanny is actually friends of the mom because she also takes care of her horses at the equestrian centre. So the mom seems to be okay with it plus she's very chill and understanding. But the dad is opposite, I don't think he knows (he's in Italy right mow). I just am worried the mom will feel like I'm taking advantage or something of the DUI

Melissa, that's a tough one. If the mom knows then maybe it's ok. I wouldn't want a nanny with a DUI, though, or driving illegally for any reason. Good luck, I agree though, you should let them know you want to be there full time. Maybe don't bring up the other nanny in that conversation.

Elizabeth, This will be my 3rd move while pregnant. I won't be 3 weeks til due though! (like I was those other 2 times) - I pushed for that a little this time. I also moved with a 6 week old which was worse - I was no help at all. So, I'd rather move before. I don't envy you, but at least you have movers! Have fun scrapping! I may do some PL journaling, on more photo organization tonight. Oh yes, and I need to do my homemade embellie for the swap. THEN it's all getting put away. I 'm nearly done washing walls in the hallway, but Gem is napping so I need to do something else. Eating chocolate needs to not be that something else. I'm getting heartburn.

I agree about not wanting a nanny with a DUI charge. I don't think the dad will be happy at all... I think I'm going to take Loni's advice and not bring up the other nanny. I think I will tell the parents I can work full time in June in a couple weeks (let it kinda pass over?) and go from there

Melissa, I think it could come across wrong if you mention her during the conversation when you ask for a full time position but maybe the time will cone to tell him. maybe not. are they separated or divorced? I find it odd that the mom wouldn't tell him herself.

2 weeks Elizabeth!? wow, and did you know anyone when you got there? I was talking to my mom about professional cleaners today. I didn't know we had any around here, but I'm all for the professional help!

hey girls!
I've been spending most of the weekend scrapping. I had to put the rest of my space back together yesterday before I could get anything done, but it's looking pretty darn good now! I've done 2 layouts and 4 cards so far.

Just landed a subbing job tomorrow (high school) that starts at 7am, so I have to be to bed early. Yuck! But, hey, it's money!

Hope everyone has had a great weekend!

Monica: it's good your subbing and getting some money. Glad you also found some time to scrap. Hope you have a great day subbing tomorrow!

Well I had a pretty good weekend and spent two days ( not whole days but like a couple hours each Fri and Sat) completing one layout. Looks great and I also even got started on a double layout. I'll have to try to find time tomorrow, but if not oh well. Just glad I finally found time to complete a layout and actually loved it to pieces

Melissa - Lori gave some good advice, don't mention the other person. Plus, the mother knows about the situation, so it's her responsibility to say it to her husband/ex as a parent. Personally, I wouldn't want that person taking care of my baby girl.

Monica - Congrats on the subbie job. Sounds like you had a busy/fun scrappy weekend.

Elizabeth - glad you found time to scrap. I like doing double-page layouts. The main reason is because I take so many pictures, but they are a little bit harder sometimes.

My weekend was fund. I started on a layout but it's not quite done yet. I also made my own spray inks from a YT video I saw. They came out good, I have to play around with the colors more.

Happy Monday!

*****Challenge!!!*****

Using your kit (this month, last month, whatever!) :
1- Create a Project Life style layout. It doesn't have to be PL or in divided protectors, just use a grid style as your inspiration.
2- Create a layout using ANY Pinterest challenge prompt.
