|Posted: 4/4/2013 8:36:14 PM|We currently have the sliding mirrored doors in one of our bedrooms. We're changing out from carpet to tile (that looks like wood).
We want bifold doors but I was concerned that they would have to drill a hole in the tile (so that the doors pivot on a post in the floor)
My tile guy says they only need to be attached at the top and don't have to be attached at the bottom.
So please take a look at your doors Are they attached at the bottom or just at the top?

My DDs' closets just have a pivot thing on the top rail of the closet, nothing on the floor.

I just went and checked the doors on the closet in my guest room. They are also only connected at the top.

Carpenter's daughter here and every bifold door I've ever seen has a pivot on the bottom. I've seen a lot of bifolds. Have five sets in my house.
That being said, there's a bracket that screws on the floor/door facing that the pivot sets in. So the only hole in the floor would be a tiny screw hole.

We have 4 sets of bifold closet doors, all hang from the top, nothing on the floor.

|Posted: 4/4/2013 9:12:39 PM|Mine is attached to some kind of hardware at the bottom, but I really can't tell if it's screwed into the floor or not, and I'm too old to stretch out on the floor to figure it out.

The old, nasty bifold closet doors in my bedroom are on a track on both ends.they are made of metal.
However, we took those same doors out of my dd's room this summer, and replaced them with wood doors. They are only attached at the top.
We hope to remodel our room this summer. I am ready for new closet doors.
I'm just a pea:)

Nope. You don't have to connect your doors to the floor.
We've lived in two homes with bifold closet doors including out current home. (Which I grew up in)
Our doors work great and I see no reason why they'd need yo be connected to the floor

I just posted that ours have a track on the floor and then I went and checked and they do not. Our addition is about four years old and three of the rooms have bi-fold doors. So, four doors total and no track.

Our old icky ones have the track on the floor. Can't put in words how much I hate them.

all mine are from the top too. We redid our floors and I was worried about the same thing and DH said they mostly do top hung doors now. Love it!

Our house was built about 10 years ago, and our bifolds are attached at both the top and bottom.

All of our closets like that are only attached at the top.

|Posted: 4/5/2013 11:43:57 AM|My aunt has bi-fold doors in her house that were installed in the early 70s, which have the bottom track, but we currently have bi-fold doors in the master bedroom (From 1990) and they have nothing at all on the floor.
So I don't know if it has to do with age or just style, but there definitely exist ones that do not attach to the floor.

Our pantry door is bi fold and only attached at the top.

ours are attached at the top and the bottom, no track on the bottom though, it's only hardware and it looks like it's screwed into the moulding on the wall, not the floor. This house is 4 years old so they are pretty new.
