Years ago, maybe 1998, my Mom introduced me to Creative Memories. She came to visit with a completed album for my oldest brother for me to see. She said she was going to make one for all five of us. She brought me a circle cutter, a corner rounder, an album, paper, adhesive and some cool scissors.

I had always scrapbooked with construction paper that bleed through my pictures.

In 2000, I made copies of the pictures and sorted them into four file folders so she could get started on the remaining four albums. As far as I had known she never got started on any of the albums. I found the four file folders but I didn't go threw them. I have been taking care of her for a year, Alhzeimers. She died in March, 2013.

I was spring cleaning her room and packing her things and my son found a CM box. My name was on the outside of the box. Inside was 22 completed pages with her handwriting. I cried for two hours. A pot of gold would not have been as precious.

Thanks for reading, I just wanted to share

That is so poignant. I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my mom a year ago, and I have her diaries still to go through but haven't made it past a couple. It is so hard. My thoughts are with you.

Thanks Peas.

I was dreading the thought of finishing the albums but this gave me encouragement to complete the remaining three, tho theirs will be missing her handwriting, a most treasured gift.

My head is churning, thinking that maybe I will copy any pages from mine and my oldest brother's album where my mom included them in the journaling.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I'm glad she left you such a treasure.

I WOULD copy her journaling to put in the other albums. I made 35mm b/w negatives of a bunch of old family pictures and recently got a good photo/negative/slide scanner so that I could get copies made for family members. I just found the letter that my great-aunt sent me when I graduated, it made me feel so good that I still have it. I'm scanning it to send to my oldest cousin that is doing our genealogy. I think she'll love it.

Again, I'm so sorry about your mom.

That's two beautiful stories I've read on here today. It just makes my love for this hobby even stronger. OP I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my father just shy of three weeks ago today. He died way too young from throat cancer. I've been trying to hold a lot in, but there's been a lot of sharing on these boards the past couple of days that have really opened the flood gates for me, and I think I needed that. I hate that anyone of us has to deal with these circumstances, but am appreciative of this place for not only being my safe place but my place to grieve in a sense. I'm probably not making any sense . Basically thank you to the people who've shared stories of recent losses. They had to do with scrapbooking, but the story was there of their loss, reminding me of my loss, and that I'm not alone. It allowed me to cry the tears I haven't been allowing myself to cry since the moment I found out. So thank you again for sharing.

That's such a lovely story. I have just returned from caring for my mum who has dementia to give my sister a break. It has been the hardest week of my life. Alzheimer's and dementia are such cruel cruel illnesses. I am so glad you found this treasure ....what a bonus.

To you and desflo.....sorry for your losses, and may you continue to share your stories.

My thoughts are with you also desflo, so sorry, I am glad you had a good cry.

I mourned my Mom the whole year before she died because of the awful darkness of this disease, I started a PL album in Jan just for quickly journaling her days and I had no idea she would descend so quickly, I thought she had years left. So now, I am documenting going through her things for PL and finally started crying as I pack.

I know there have been many posts about some who hate their handwriting, please, please don't be ashamed. My Mom's wasn't what one would call pretty or readable, LOL, it is so precious when you are gone!!!!!!

I am sorry for your loss - that truly is a treasure to find. I am glad you are going to complete the other albums. They may not have your mom's writing in them but they will have yours and that is special too.

Oh, I am SO sorry for your tremendous loss but the treasure you gained in that find is truly wonderful! And I love how you said "Inside was 22 completed pages with her handwriting. That's why I don't print my journaling. I think our handwriting is something that can be "hung onto" after we are gone. Hugs and blessings to you!
