I've been searching all over the web and almost every scrapper I find uses lots of technology to keep up on Project Life. So much of it does not pertain to me. I have a regular cell phone with a slide out keyboard and don't own MAC anything. I don't print my photos at home on my Z**y? printer.

Does someone know of a scrapper who does basic Project Life pages? A blog where they talk about their **process** and it doesn't include these things? I have Picasa and Photoshop Elements.

I doesn't even necessarily have to be how PL is typically done. Just how someone uses the divided sheet protectors to make yearly scrapbooks or travel albums.

I think Elise does a really nice job with PL. (She also designed the Seafoam kit, which--of course--she uses) . She usually has a weekly PL post.

Elisa Blaha's blog: enJOY it

HERE is a recent post where she talks about her process.

Thanks for the links, I too am interested in this. I have Shutterfly envelopes full of photos, I want to use the photos I already have developed for Project Life.

Elise edits and prints her own photos, but that won't matter--I've done PL both ways. I print at home now, but don't edit. I use what I've got and keep it simple! I had pretty much given up on traditional scrapping, but LOVE Project Life.

I don't have a blog, but I also don't have Instagram. My photos are taken with a point and shoot camera. I use Photo Shop Elements so put two images onto one 4x6 print. Sometimes I will crop a photo to 4x4 or smaller if I won't lose anything in the picture. I am completely satisfied with how my PL is working out.

I don't use instagram. I do use my Selphy printer to print from home though. I am several weeks behind and may just order from Snapfish soon to try to get caught up.

I take my photos with a regular camera (rarely use the phone camera), upload them to shutterfly and order the prints, I hand write on the journaling cards - so I don't use technology (other than to order the pictures)

I do PL monthly, without Instagram or anything Mac, and get my photos printed locally. I also like Elise's blog for her more clean and simple style. I find it's easy to get overwhelmed when looking at some of the more elaborate layouts. I have to remind myself that I do this for fun and not as a public performance.

I could do that in photosheet. Thanks.

I like your take on it! I fought the divided look for a long time but got sucked in by the HSN PL special. My first time ordering anything from there. I figure the cards will go a long way. I also have saved free printables whenever I see them offered.

I like being almost "caught up" and seeing pages in a completed album. I plan on scrapping this way now.

I don't use instagram or even a phone camera. All my photos are point and shoot, maybe a little editing for color (like seriously one photo fix button), put two on a 4X6 using photosheet and print. I also dont blog anymore but hey we each have our thing right?

I recently purchased the PL kit that was on HSN and I purchased it so that I could scrap old photos of my son. I would imagine that doing PL would be the exact same way send your photos to get printed and then slide them in the pockets. Journal as you would normally.

I don't use instagram.

I don't even have a phone that takes photos.

I don't print my own photos.

I own an old version of PS, but it is not installed on my current computer. Which is not a mac.

I just use Picassa and York for my PL pics. And I just scrap my yearly pics in divided pockets.

I do all traditional paper scrapping in my PL album.

However, I also don't blog.

I'm not sure what you're looking for in terms of a process.

But I'd be happy to type out what I do here if you'd like. It just won't have a whole mess of step-by-step pics.

I could toss in a few pics, but that would be it.

Here are some finished pages I have here in the gallery. I put an awful lot of personal info on these pages, so I don't have many I can share. Sorry...my photos of these pages stink.

I'm not sure what you're looking for in terms of a process.

I guess it was mostly how do you get your pictures the right sizes for the sheet protectors and what is the quickest way?

Thanks for posting those two layouts. On your second example, I used the exact same paper the other day for a page about my dd!

I am curious how the PL's process works. I would like to do a form of it, but the organizing aspect is overwhelming to me.

I pretty much only print 4x6s and 3x4s.

Picasa makes it easy to order 3x4s. You just click on one photo in your library, then hold down the "ctrl" button and click a second one.

Then click "collage" under the "create" tab at the top of the screen.

Once the collage screen opens, you choose 4x6 as your "base", pick landscape or portrait depending on whether you want horizontal or vertical pics, and the photos automatically are sized to 3x4.

Then I just upload it and order it as a 3x4 print. When it arrives, I just cut any of those "collages" into 2 prints first.

The only organizing I do is to sketch out my pages ahead of time. That way I can see how many vertical and how many horizontal 3x4s I need, and then I make all of the collages for the month at once.

(Right now I choose to order one month's worth of photos at a time, then I scrap them the month after they were taken.)

I'm running "late" this month. Typically I already have my new pics, but I am still working with them. We had a few events that I am waiting to get pics from a few other people before ordering.

The ordering process definitely is the most time consuming for me.

I sketch out the pics throughout the month. And once the pics arrive, things move along fairly quickly.

I just slip my pics into the pockets to hold their place, so to speak, and then I scrap them as i have time or want to work with those pics.

Next I choose papers and slip them in the pages. I do title, journalling, and embellishments last.

I don't use instagram, rarely use my phone for pictures, and send my photos to Costco for printing. I have PC/android products, use Picassa and pse6.

I'm a planner and have a very specific process for my normal scrapping ( check out my gallery for photos and a description).

I do PL monthly with whatever pictures I have (no pressure to take a picture a day/week, etc). My photos are chrono by month but not by date and I don't limit myself to a certain # of pages. My one rule is that all the pictures have to fill the front and back of each page protector. This way I can easily add 12x12 Los in between months if I want.

I'm still trying to figure out my PL process. I realized that I need it to mimic my regular process as much as possible. I usually do a month at a time, however many LOs that is. So far I have been printing a contact sheet with the pictures for the whole month and figure out which page configurations from there. That way I can crop and print the sizes that I need.
I usually make a Picassa album for each month of pictures that I think I want for PL. All my photos are normally organized in folders by year, month, date.

No iPhone here, and pictures get sent to Persnickety. Almost all of my photos are 4x6, although I sometimes crop them to fit 2 halves across the 4x3 spots.I know there is a tendency to want to feel "caught up" when doing chronological albums, but I've had to realize that I don't print photos but once every few months and had to let go of that. I just finished 2012 last night!

When I did the original Project 365 kit from CK in 2009, I didn't have a cell phone camera. I only used my point & shoot and my dslr. I put vertical photos in the pockets sideways because I totally didn't think of using the 4x6 horizontal slot for journaling and the 3x4 for a smaller vertical photo!! Duh.

I guess I don't understand how seeing people that use Instagram or a Mac v a pc or print at home makes a difference to seeing the finished pages.

Now I do monthly PL spreads and just pick my favorite photos and add some journaling. During the month I stuff ticket stubs, receipts, cards into a pocket as a holding place for things I might want to include.

Maybe check out A Vegas Girl at Heart's blog? She does great PL spreads.

If you order from Persnickety they have PL sized prints and you can even order them with the corners rounded. They are my favorite lab. Great prices and fast shipping.

I like Monica McNeill.

I do PL and I don't use instagram. But to be honest, I feel my PL album is alot more fun and easier to keep up with this year because I have a new iPhone 5. I like that I can take decent pictures anytime I want with it. I like that there are fun apps that allow you to add text on the pictures - a big timesaver. I like that I can type up notes and journaling in the notes feature and then take a screenshot and print it out - an instant journaling card. I also think if you are approaching PL in a daily or weekly format - having a decent at home printer makes that much more doable.

That being said, I think the key to PL in a daily or weekly format is keeping up with the journaling. I think as long as you are doing that, it doesn't really matter where or when you get the pictures to go into the album. And I think the reverse of that isn't true - having huge stacks of square photos from instagram with no notes or context would not seem to make PL easier.

I like Monica McNeill's blog for examples of PL done in a simple way. I was first attracted to her blog because she is the rare working mom (working outside of the home and not in the scrapbook industry) with young kids who still manages to find time to both keep up with PL and regularly blog about it. She was on Becky Higgin's creative team last year.

I answered the question earlier in the thread. I'm looking for a faster process to stay organized when I don't have the latest technology like so many of the bloggers and design team members of SB companies use.

I have 2 Instagram photos in the 4 years I've been doing PL. I am not a big fan, I love the look but the process is far too much work for me.

I a vast majority of photos with my point and shoot camera, mostly because my camera phone is slow so I always miss the moment I am trying to capture. I don't edit my photos aside from making them 4x6. If I want a 3x4 photo, I use the picasa "make collage" tool using 2 vertical photos.

I print my photos at Costco. It's easy to upload and the quality is great and it's only .13 per print.

Check out The Mom Creative http://www.themomcreative.com/2013/04/project-life-tuesday-week-10-2.html she hosts "Project Life Tuesday", her layouts are nice and simple and there is a link-up where others can post their layouts too.

Well I must admit. I own everything Mac, use intagram, print some of my own photos on my Selphy, and use my camera phone religiously... but I don't really get why this is an issue and why my process would be any different than yours.

Getting pictures to a 3x4 is not an instagram thing. I use Picasa to get 2 photos on a 4x6.

I use my camera phone most of the time, but also use my Nikon D500 and my point and shoot Samsung all the time for pictures.

I print the occasional photo at home if I want it right then and there, otherwise I upload to snapfish and order big batches of prints that way.

Otherwise, I don't need technology to do my layouts. All my journaling is done by hand from memory of that was happening that day/week/in that photo. I am a paper scrapper, no digital elements. So I am not really sure my process is too terribly different than yours probably is.

Here is a link to my Project Life Album. It's from 2011. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqGqp3CmbBs
I only use the basics (album, Design A plastic, journaling cards). I only have Photoshop Elements. I don't have instagram. I'm done with the 2012 album, but it's not on the web. I like to keep it as simple as possible (otherwise I'll stop doing it after a while).

Although I like looking at other PL albums, and the technology they're using and all the different insert, tickets, cards, art projects... I like my plain and simple album.

I do print all my journaling cards and most pictures is b&w.

Why is it any different if someone uses Instagram or not.
Either way the end product is the same

If your having a hard time getting smaller pics maybe you should print two per 4x6. That way you have the little photos

Or you could even do 6 photos per 4x6. Or of you're printing away from him you could do 24 2x2 photos on an 8x10
I do this often and it's very economical. I think I pay .89 for an 8x10 at Costco

Costco will also print an 8x12 so if you want the 2x3 size photos you can get 16 and its the sane price as an 8x10

I use lots of divided page protectors for vacation albums and for PL. I use my pc. I don't have instagram...because my phone is so old it still flips open. My kids have instagram and when I want a photo off their instagam, I just get the download the photo off their camera roll on their phone and print it using photosheet. not very technical. I sometimes print at home with my regular old printer or sometimes I order from York or snapfish.

I think the confusion is that we don't know what you think people are using Instagram/technology for that you are having issues with. It is keeping journaling with your photos, adding filters to your photos, dating your photos, sharing your photos, cropping photos??

How do you take photos? Smartphone/iPhone, point and shoot, DLSR?

With what part of your process are you having issues?

I don't think many consider Instagram/technology an integral part of PL so we are having a hard time understanding what your specific question is. If you can clarify what part of your process you are having issues with we might be able to give you better answers.

I have a smartphone now and use Instagram. But when I started PL a little over a year ago I didn't. I caught up on about 6 months of photos that I already had printed with no problem. It didn't take me long either. Now I find that I like printing a lot of my pictures at home, just because it is more convenient for me. It is not a need. I am also someone who uses PL for what I want it to be...sometimes it's an event, sometimes a week. I put a traditional layout in when I want to. What I love about it is that there is a place for the everyday photos and things I didn't want to do a whole scrapbook layout about before.

I don't and probably won't anytime soon since I've never been real clear on just what Instagram actually is! I also don't have a smart phone AND only recently began using a digital camera. I don't own a Kindle or Nook either. I guess I'm just old fashioned - I like the scent of printed paper!

hey there,

I don't have instagram as well (yet^^) and I just print my pages at home too

I haven't talked much about the process, but I do it like that:

- I use microsoft word and made some auto-shapes the sizes my pictures are supposed to be--> then I insert the pics

- I cut with an arm trimmer and use journal cards etc. as "templates"
- sometimes I print big photos and cut them to fit into the sleeves

- I try to make a rough color concept for a double page spread

I hear ya! I have what I call 'a dumb phone'.
It is a $10.00 pre-paid phone with no camera! I use my dslr for all my picture taking.
I use Picasa. I have but don't use photoshop. I use my own handwriting but would love a typewriter!
I have used PL to create a baby book and a school album for my son. I also used the divided page protectors for a travel album.
I try to keep things simple for the most part but I love letter stickers! HA.
I usually print all my photos in the 4x6 size and sometimes create a collage in Picasa. When I take pics I almost always DON"T take it close up just in case I want to trim it down to 4x4 or 3x4. I use planning pages (From Marcy Penner) that I keep in a notebook. This is where I jot down my journaling for the day and decide which pockets the pictures will go in when I'm printing. This also helps when I am using an insert. My blog is fairly new and I am sharing pages from my 2011 album in addition to my 2013 album.
Anyway...the link to my blog is in my signature...I would love for you to check it out. PL planning pages
