Got my new Silhouette Cameo today. Have used a Cricut since they came out ( I have 3!). The SC is so much more versatile!!!!

Will take awhile to learn everything but offhand, can you cut layers like with the Cricut?

Laursydrumm- yes, and you can take images and pull layers from them. The possibilities are so endless.

I'm so jealous! Any time I get to convince myself that I don't really need cameo and that this money can be spent better way I come across another project/video/post and start thinking about it all over again...

To create the layer effect - use the "offset" tool. You can choose rounded or square edges.

SO many possibilities! I found it best to start with some videos - Under A Cherry Tree blog was the best for me. I tried a couple print and cut projects using her tutorials and I was off to the races!

There are also several Silhouette groups on Facebook - but those can be just a little overwhelming at first. Helps to have a little knowledge going in.

Just make a couple small things and you will get the hang of it.

Most important - remember if you are using the mat - make sure you have "LOAD MAT" selected on the machine. If you are using "print and cut" - make sure you have the paper loaded on the mat in the correct direction. These were some of my early mistakes that were frustrating - but simple once I figured out what was wrong.

Thanks for the visual!
You could cut a piece of vinyl and put that across the front of your machine!

When I use layering to create a shadow effect, I actually don't use the offset feature. I just cut another shape the same size using a different colour cardstock (usually black or grey).

I'm about to make the leap myself. I'm a cricut girl too since 2004. Now just trying to decide if I'm going to get the cameo or portrait! I'm amazed at the fine details that the silhouette cuts that the cricut NEVER could do!!
