My OH bought me a Craft Robo for Christmas about three years ago. Unfortunately it was not the one I wanted and I never managed to find the time I needed to get it to work. The software I needed so I could weld words was too expensive, it was all a bit of a disappointment.

Finally, I found the time to give it another crack before I was going to give up and buy a Cameo. I found that the Silhouette Software is now free and that there are hundreds of free cut files available.

So glad I have it one more go. I am having such fun playing with my 'new' cutting machine.

I may yet buy a Cameo, but I will see how often I:
a) use the machine at all
need the larger cutting area.

Hurrah!

This is very interesting to hear. I have an old Craft Robo, which I never use any more as the software is so outdated it just doesn't work with my computer. It might just be worth a try - I'm not losing anything as I can't use it at the moment anyway.

Certainly worth a try! Mine is a 200, so really quite old. I just wiped all the old software from my computer and downloaded new versions from the Craftrobo and Silhouette websites. 2Peas have a really easy tutorial as part of the pack for any of their cut files explaining how to convert .png files in the Silhouette Studio software, which, obviously, works for all .png files. I have had a really fun afternoon downloading both Studio and .png files.

As they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I don't even need to wipe the old version - I have a new computer. I'll give it a try tomorrow - it's late here now.

About the only thing that seems to be different between using Studio with the Cameo or Portrait and the Craft Robo is that you have to make any blade adjustments manually. For me this is done by changing the colour of the blade cap. That said, most papers and medium weight card seem to cut well using the Blue cap (the one that gives the most shallow cut), for more detailed cuts on thicker materials I will probably need the Yellow cap, but not sure I will need the Pink cap much.

I am so pleased I tried. Give it a go, what have you for to loose?
